So I was just checking the refurb schedule, hoping it would open over the weekend we are there, and nope:sad1:
Any one know why they are doing a month long refurb??

There was so much rain last winter that the roof damage to some parts of Pirates caused more leaking and dripping of water. Repairs to the roof and general touch-up of the entire attraction were the reasons that I heard.

I sort of want to change our entire trip itinerary now. It probably isn't possible to secure the same pin code deal though. I heard the rooms are booking up fast. This really bothers me. It is a favorite for the whole family. I wanted to give my 2-year old a little scare on the drops too.

I am just hoping for the chance that it may re-open before we leave on 11/8. pirate:

I would imagine that they may put a little cushion in the dates in case of issues. It doesn't hurt to wish for a litte magic :wizard:

So much rain? I don't recall tons of rain last year. In fact, it was a rather dry winter overall. There were a few really rainy days here and there. I guess their roof is just old and needs repair and they need to keep the ride open during the peak seasons, so they have to shut it down during the 'off-peak.'

I wish they would re-open POTC with a swashbuckling holiday overlay! That would be so great!

Yeah, the PIN code rooms (in other words, the rooms blocked specificaly for the PIN code offer) are all but booked now. The offer is for trips between August and December, and the CM I spoke to said the PPH was all booked up, as was the DLH, and only the GCH had some openings. However, things change all the time in reservations. Sometimes you get different info depending on which CM you talk to, so I would still try if I were you. It can't hurt. People are always cancelling and switching days, and there are other rooms available at off-peak rates without the PIN offer, so you can still get in somewhere, just maybe not with the PIN offer.

Let me clarify. The roof was repaired during the 2006 refurb when Capt. Jack was added. The rain from winter season of 2006 -2007 and the rain from the winter season from 2007-2008 caused a lot of damage. From what I was told, the damage will take about 4 weeks to fix. I do hope that the roof is fixed correctly. I was told that downpour rains in 2007 caused a lot of damage. My source works in Guest Communications and is very reliable.

Gotcha! I just don't recall there being a whole lot of rain in winter 2007, especially not torrential downpours that would damage their POTC roof. I assumed it was a cumulative deterioration over a number of years that was the issue with the roof, but the last two years haven't been too bad. Sometimes roofs of all kinds are given 'band-aids' or mini-fixes when they start to leak over the years, and then finally it is impossible to avoid the inevitable. They eventually have to be totally replaced or undergo major repairs. Maybe that is what happened here. A bunch of mini-fixes over the years and finally now they have to do a BIG one.
