Are closest park is Disneyland and no matter how many times we go, everyone agrees POTC is one of our favorites. I know my kids are going to want to do it again and again at WDW so I am looking for insight.. does it have to have a fast pass ? Certain times that are better to ride?

TIA !

It has FP. You may find the FP FAQ helpful.

Thank you for the reply :) We do plan on getting a fast pass for it but I was actually wondering if anyone had insight on when it’s a good time to ride without FastPass. Sorry for the confusion

First thing in AM

This is true, but also true of virtually all other rides.

We were able to get Pirates as a 4th FP but were unable to get Mine Train, Big Thunder, Splash, Space, or Peter Pan as 4th FP, so our strategy was to Rope Drop two of those, FP the other three, and then hope for Pirates as a 4th.

You can also do “a pirates adventure” which earns you an additional fast pass for pirates. I understand it’s an interactive game, I believe a treasure hunt, that earns you a fast pass. Haven’t tried it yet but hopefully will get a chance to in a couple weeks. Could be a good option during busy periods. But you should be able to add pirates as a 4th and 5th fastpass.

Not always true though. I've been at times where there have been lines at these and other rides immediately after rope drop and it wasn't an EMM day.

We just went to DL for the first time and PoTC was our first ride. We all agreed that it was FAR superior to the WDW version. It was longer and just so much better! I only say this bc your kids may find that once is enough, or maybe they’ll love it? In that case, carry on and either way — have fun!

Thank you!! I can’t even remember the ride at WDW (it’s been 10 years LOL). This does make me feel a bit better as far as trying to find enough times to ride it !! Thank you!

Only while supplies ( they FP the CM have) last. I think you get the FP most of the tome you do this not all. Some times when you ask the CM say no but then give you one when you finish. Just wanted to let you know so if you did not get one.

I second this. OP, if your family loves PotC that much, you will probably really enjoy Pirates Adventure. It's got a lot of really cool props around Adventureland that you get to find and activate. You do get FPs for completing 2 adventures but I wouldn't do it for that. It's much quicker and easier to get them as a 4th FP but PA is a fun afternoon activity.

POTC standby line is one of the few (along with SE) that really does odd things. Sometimes it'll be a straight walk on ride, sometimes it'll have a long wait. Therefore, we very rarely use standby, we just use FP+. It's one of the easier ones to get in MK same day. We never have a problem getting one immediately.

You seem to be new to fp+ so a little advice. Schedule your fp+ back to back starting soon after park open. Don’t wait more than 15-20mn for anything. It’s silly because you can get fp for just about everything if you are persistant in refreshing, especially at MK. I usually have my next fp by the time I board the attraction vehicle for the fp I just used. The few exceptions should be experienced at rope drop or just before the park closes for the shortest wait times. This would work for Pirates too.

I am looking into this! Thank you!!

This does sound like something we would love to do! Thank you for the details and tips!

Hearing another person say this can be same day fast pass makes me feel better, thank you!

Thank you! Today was our day and I got lucky and most of our days are back to back FastPasses. I’m super excited !

We have never gotten a FP for Pirates. Not really needed. There will be plenty times during the later day when the wait may only be 15 min or so.
Now if you can get same day FP go for it. But i would never schedule one ahead of time.

Riding close to RD generally doesn't have a huge line. Or close to park closing.
