POTC drops

I hate drops in rides. I have ridden POTC in WDW many times, but am nervous about riding it at DL when we're there next week. I have read that there are 2 drops. I'm wondering how the drops at DL compare to the one at WDW.

There's one large and one small, but nothing scary. They are both over before you even know it! And although I was just at the POTC at the MK in October, I really can't remember what the drop is like there.

I'd venture that the large one is twice the length of the small one?

I don't like drops either! But the POTC ones are small and I can tolerate them just fine! It's pretty much the only drops I can do. LOL And this is coming from someone who gets motion sickness on a Merry go round! LOL

One is larger than the other, but I wouldn't even call the larger one "large". KWIM? I'm not a huge fan of big drops either, and I have no problem on POTC.

I would not worry really all that much. There are no seat restraints so they are not all that bad. But I love all stuff like that. They are over quickly and you still have a nice long ride afterward to sit and relax. Don't sweat the small stuff and just have fun!!! You will be fine.princess:

I agree. There are no seat belts, indicating that you can not fall out of the boat. My DSIL doesn't drops either. We finally convinced her to ride it and now it is one of her favorite rides. Give it a good Disney try!

I am a weeny and it's just fine. (one ride on Splash Mountain did it for me..no more..they need a chicken version without the drop)
The first one is longer but it's fun and the second one is just a little plop. Wonderful ride. Have fun!

The drops occur right at the beginning. You cruise past the blue bayou and go into a tunnel. The first drop is in the dark, then when you get to the bottom of that one, you go around a corner and there is a shorter drop (this one you can see and it is lit up). Then you continue through the ride. Don't be worried at the end when you go up a big hill, there isn't a drop after it, you just level off and turn the corner to the place where you get off. I love the drops, but that is because they are on water - I feel that makes them gentler. Look at it this way, they are over right at the beginning. Plus, the ride at Disneyland is far superior to the one at WDW - don't let your fear keep you from experiencing it. You won't be sorry.:3dglasses

POTC at DL has to go under the railroad tracks to get to the main ride building, so the two drops are steeper.

The water table in Florida is much higher, so the one drop is much flatter.

Don't be worried at the end when you go up a big hill, there isn't a drop after it, you just level off and turn the corner to the place where you get off.

That's right, I forgot about that! I remember being scared when I was a child, thinking there was some huge drop coming up. :rotfl:

My mom is the biggest ride wimp, and she grits her teeth and does POTC despite the drops... and every time says, "that wasn't that bad I guess." You work yourself up more than it really is, and when it's over you think, huh....:confused3

I beg to differ, there's three. Don't forget the teeny anti-climatic drop at the end before you go to the drop off. My little brother was grabbing my arm and said, "You said there was only two! You said there was only two!!" :rotfl:

The 1st drop is just after, Pirates, Tell No Lies, 2nd one is after Davy Jones,
3rd is a very soft plop as the boat leaves the elevator, it is nothing.

I find riding the Mountains is always better when I'm very, very tired then I just don't care, only it turns out to be fun.

They were just a nice addition. We did get a few splashes on us because we were in the front both times. But nothing like the big SM

i don't remember the drop at DL but i do know that the drop at Disneyland Resort Paris is MUCH bigger that the drop at WDW. :)

There is no drop after Davy Jones. There is the first one that is dark right after the BB where the pirate skull is talking above you. That's the "big one" but it's really not that big, you barely have time to scream and it's over. LOL The second one you can see, it's right after the first one, you turn a corner and there it is, the third one is tiny, after you come up from underground you go down a tiny itty bitty *drop*, not even a drop really but you do go down. LOL

My 2 year old thought they were fun, so I'm sure you will be able to handle them, no problem!! They are fun drops. Not scary at all.:)

I don't like drops of any kind, but I have no problems with these. One trick I learned is to tuck my chin and blow out my mouth during the drop. It works wonders!

Just like some say if I know when it is coming I'll try and survive it.

Can someone tell me exactly where the drop is on the Disney World ride?
It only has the 1 drop RIGHT?

DH wants to take the kids on it. I went on the ride only once I think when I was a kid. I did not know there was a drop and I freeked since it took me by surprise. Never ridden it since but want to try it again.

I don't care how great theming is you'll never get me on splash mountain. I don't ride the flume ride at any park. I know I 'm a wimp! :rolleyes1
