Potato Heads here we come! A May 2012 BC WDW/USO PTR! Updated 5/13

Joining in! Another Tennesseean here--from the "East" side (but not a deeeee-luxe apartment in the sky-yay....sorry, it jumped in my head).

Loving your report so far! We are also going in May/June and also doing a day at WWOHP to feed my obsession!

Excited to read more of your report!!

I hear of a lot of repeat visitors to T-Rex...so i think you made a good choice!

I love hearing that....today we ate at this place called Aquarium for lunch - same folk who do Rainforest Cafe. The theme was cool, meal was awful....I found this to be the same at RC the times I tried. I am praying it's not the case with TRex!

You PTR is TOTALLY AWESOME DUDE!

I mean seriously, I am loving every second of it!

So how many times have you seen Hunger Games? :crazy2:

Thanks!

Hahahaha! I've only seen it twice...once with DH and he loved it, but couldn't get through the first book. I would have gone lots more if I could have gotten away with bringing DD, but I think taking toddlers to such films is probably frowned upon. :happytv:

Saw your PTR on another link and came over. We'll be at Disney World the same time as you! Our dates are May 27-June 2, and from your plans it looks as if we'll be at Epcot, DHS, and MK on the same days!

You will love Beach Club. We stayed there during our last trip, and I must warn you that you will be spoiled to how beautiful it is! :)

Can't wait to hear more!

Thanks!

I am so excited to be at the Beach Club, although I see you're booked at the Poly? I think that will be for us next time....DH and I went back and forth but the SAB sold us, especially with DD being easier to handle (manipulate) with zero entry.

So I picked my days by comparing low park crowds on like 3 different crowd calenders and I have no idea why, but I still keep revisiting EMH morning days....like some niggling voice in the back of my head trying to HERD me into busier parks! Did you pick your days based on crowds?

I guess we'll both be in the mosh pit that is TSM! Is Dumbo on your must do first MK list?

Song lyrics totally spring into my head randomly at any time as well. I find the quality endearing.

I'm getting excited again about WWOHP....actually DH just broke some news to me that changes some of the itinerary a bit, but I think will mean a better time for WWOHP. What souvenir are you most excited for? DH wants a wand...I'm going for a Butterbeer mug. Frozen or Cold for you?

Sounds like fun!!! We may run into you on Wed at MK, since we'll be hanging out and about in Fantasyland for my nieces.
I went to WWoHP within two weeks of it's opening, and it was too much with the crowds and heat. But I did enjoy it enough to look forward to going back in a few years when perchance the thought of lining up at the front of the park to just get into WWoHP has slipped my mind ;) And I'll actually get in line to ride the ride and not just in lines to go into the shops and Three Broomsticks. I was glad we had gone there, but def look forward to revisiting it someday!
Since my dad and younger sister may not be able to go with us to WDW :( my mom and I had looked into staying over at BC. So I do know that you can use a restroom near SAB on your last day to change, but now can't remember if there is a showering area or not. . .sorry!
I get that sad feeling of the vacation being over each time I write the itinerary for the last day of vacation or even talk about what to eat for the ADRs if it's for the last day, so I empathize with you!
And your daughter is ADORABLE :cutie: So excited for you on your first WDW experience!!!:hyper:

You didn't ask me, but we have done both before. I never attempt it on tge first day. No matter how much I prepare, I'm never out of the hotel as early as I want to be. Just not in the routine yet or forget things I should have put in the park bag. Other than that, we do okay with a couple, but wouldn't make it if we did every day. But that's also because we often take our time getting to bed after 9a-10p at parks. Swim, go fill the mugs, whatever. If we did hoppers, I think we would do eemh now that we have become accoustimed to earlier mornings at home with school schedule.
I'm rambling now, but the point was that you can really get a lot done with eemh- but only if you know that you will be there on time and move quickly. You can slow down later in the day when it gets busier. But if you won't realistically be there on time then all you get is busier.
I definitely use touring plans and easywdw to set my days. This time I'm mostly going to the park the day after late emh.

Thanks! Last day planning IS depressing...

I've been able to make some changes I'll mention soon on WWOHP which I think will help with crowds and timing.

I'm going to keep my eyes out for folk this week - apparently this is a popular week to pop down there. I only wish FL was completed, but then I wouldn't have an excuse to come back soon ;)

Thanks! That actually puts them in perspective. We'll lose an hour on time with the change to Eastern and DD likes to sleep till about 8 generally anyway, unless we wake her up earlier which will already be happening on this trip so that makes me feel better not messing with morning EMH's. I also don't want to rush too much as this is a first family experience and would hate to kill the fun with being inflexible with scheduling.

I didn't even think to look at day after late EMH parks...I'm going to re-review those options I think.

Evolving is a very human thing to do...it’s like our natural right. Regardless where your beliefs lie, I think as a species we are capable of evolving to the moment and nothing exemplifies this majesty of human traits like the WDW itinerary planning.

Yes, you may use that on whomever tries to rain on your Disney parade.

So this is a post of updates to the overall plan...I’ll make it short and sweet ...or sarcastic...we’ll see how this goes.

Also, anyone reading...please note the one Constant in this trail of nonsense (I feel like I'm in that Lost episode where Daniel Faraday is clinging to sanity because of his "Constant" whatever that may be): DH

MIT should give me an honorary physics degree for even locating this.

DH Sees the LIGHT

32bc45e9.jpg

If you remember, I started off with a somewhat reluctant DH. He agreed, but only with stipulations....cancellation be a choice. Which it still is of course, but unless something dire happens at this point with our ill family member, I think DH is cool. Also, DH had his annual checkup and now feels spry....he has been working on healthy living and with the good word from his doc, he's on the verge of wearing wife beaters and it’s like the early beginnings of his mid-life crisis.

ec822e17.jpg

And apparently RnRc

Help us...or just me.

Anywho, this has spurned a renewed interest in coasters and drop rides. He has even mentioned The Hulk at IoA a few times....I almost vomited in my mouth when this happened....unsure if this was from the prospect of barreling toward the concrete in a metal cart or having to change my Touring Plans to fit his “Crises” in.

Either way, these following items will need to be worked in...

DHS:
ToT, RnRc - DH can subject himself to these while I dance to the music with DD at DisJr

IoA:
Dragon Challenge, The Hulk, and I’m sure there will be more, but I’m not sure which....I can see DH getting puffed up MAN chest when seeing Hulk and that may just scare him down a bit.

I Need More Money in the Budget DW

This is actually a time where I am willing to comply happily...apparently I can be stingy. Pshh. I totally let him buy his own Mickey shirt today to match DD and I in our MK fits...I'm taking the cost out of his lunch money.

So why does DH need more money? Why why why why why our checkbook sobs...

2e162825.jpg

Because extra nights at hotels cost cold hard cash folks and apparently that's what we're doing!

Story goes as such...about a week ago I'm streaming youtube video of MSEP and Dumbo to our tv for DD to watch and I sigh as the awesome synthesized voice comes over the speakers and say...

"Gah, it would be so nice to have some extra time at Disney...I feel so rushed. Without a Sunday, it just doesn't even feel like a vacation."

Note: I have this wierd issue...if vacation doesn't include a Sunday where I can skip end of the week requisite family/household duties, including sports, it's not vacation to me. Something about laundry and cooking...those two have to be missed on a Sunday...even if I do them on Monday or Saturday during vacay, it's fine...I just need to be on a trip without duties on SUNDAY. The Bible tells me so. (no blasphemy intended)

DH apparently agrees, minus the sports because that is what MAKES Sunday for him, but football will be on hiatus and Nascar has been eh this year for him...

A couple days ago he randomly says...

"Yanno, we could use a bit more money for Disney. I looked at the accounts and we look alright to beef up the budget."

Me: "That's not necessary. I've got our needs and extras covered."

DH: "No, I don't think you do...and you need to work on the itinerary. It's incomplete."

Now I'm just annoyed and I throw something at him...pretty sure it was one of DD's toddler spoons as I was doing dishes and I am such a pansy that I didn't even maim him.

DH is laughing and he tells DD to tickle Mommy which leads to me flicking water at them and finally giggle-induced burps on DD's end since she just had dinner. Before she can vomit, I simmer us down and give DH a stink eye and tell him not to question my planning credentials again...I do have a marriage certificate stating I am in charge afterall.

He says fine and tells me it's no sweat off his back if I don't want to book Sunday 5/27 at Universal since he is switching out a day at work and we could leave Saturday 5/26. He's fine to just lounge on the couch that day while I finish packing and make him cheese grits and shrimp for dinner.

Like H-E-Double Hockey Sticks.

Let's all just assume that I opened up my google docs and brought up our itinerary in less time it takes DD to make a gummy fruit snack disappear. This would NOT make an *** out of U or ME.

3ed7078a.jpg

New plans:

Sat 5/26: drive halfway
Sun 5/27: arrive afternoon at US - thinking of Royal Pacific or Hard Rock...have to read up on both still but I know both have rooms available. Go to IoA and see WWOHP at night. Maybe do some rides.
Mon 5/28: IoA early hour at 0800 for WWOHP again. do any headliners we want, skip to US and check out as much as we can until bored or burned. head to beach club for checkin.
Tues 5/29: DHS
Wed 5/30: MK
Thurs 5/31: Epcot
Fri 6/1: AK
Sat: pool then leave :(

Obviously, I'll have to rearrange some ADR's - not much - and I'm just glad I hadn't posted my ADR list in its entirety yet.

Goodies: WWOHP at night and early morning resort hour, chance to see US, full Epcot day (or we can revisit MK for EMH if missed out on anything and hop to Epcot later)

Boos: Cuts out a chunk of pool time I had planned at SAB, change in ADR's...again. I fear Disney Dining online may MARK me.

Minor Tidbits...

~My dogs will not be venturing off into the wild for a brief stay as we’ve secured dogsitting at $10/day. It’s our neighbor’s son and I so wish I would have snapped a photo of his face when I mentioned poo.

~Still have not purchased our park tickets yet, but it’s not from a lack of trying! I called WDW reservations to price the DDP and add tickets (like they told me I could up to 5 days prior to our check-in) but apparently if I did that, I would completely negate my 30% off room discount and they had nothing comparable to rebook at a similar price....can you say nothxokby. I can order tickets separately, but opted not to wanting to check undercover tourist first. My only reservations about purchasing these from there is that they are actual tickets and not loaded on a KTTW room card (which I think I may not be able to get anyways) and thus the risk for LOST TICKETS raises exponentially in my mind. But I do save a bit and that could be two meals for us.....Does anyone else feel funny about buying tickets from anywhere else other than WDW?

Oh the ADR....

I do not think anything offers as much concentration, indecision and excitement in planning a Disney itinerary. I’ve mentioned most of mine, HOWEVER, in true fickle....excuse me, FLEXIBLE, fashion, I have made CHANGES.

dadadadada...changes!

335b52b3.jpg

His song happened to come on when I started to write this. Prophetic really.

So I decided to post my ADR’s and CS food plan in one nifty little chart:

DRAT! Chart will not work...ghetto version it is:

Sun 5/27:
-Dinner: ?? at USO

Mon 5/28:
-BF: USO - WWOHP?
-Lunch: ?? at USO
-Dinner: Teppan Edo

Tues 5/29:
-BF: Cape May Character Buffet
-Lunch: Beaches & Cream
-Dinner: Undecided - we have extra time here. Suggestions?

Wed 5/30:
-BF: Kona Cafe
-Lunch: CS at MK or Epcot WS
-Dinner: Crystal Palace Character Buffet

Thurs 5/31:
-BF: Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
-Lunch: Undecided...probably CS at Epcot
-Dinner: Les Chefs de France

Fri 6/1:
-BF: In room
-Lunch:Restaurantsaurus
-Dinner: Raglan Road

Sat 6/2:
-BF: In room
-Lunch: TRex

ADR’s I may cancel at game time if we just don’t feel it: Teppan Edo (drowning in Hibachi’s here already), Kona Cafe

Obviously, if you’ve been reading, I’ve made a few changes....and it is entirely possible I will again. Don’t hold it against me, you know you do it too. It can be our dirty little secret.

Also, I did NOT book at 180 days out because I had no clue we would even be going on this vacation yet so I had to wing it....and I got most of what struck me as interesting.

Although, I could totally use some advice....

~I booked Kona Cafe at the Poly on 5/30 at 0730 and am thinking the BEST way to travel that day will be driving our car to Poly, eat then Monorail (our only chance to ride really this trip) to MK....Reverse for our return journey. Sound good? Is there anywhere CS (not at MK) that is a MUST when going back to Poly for lunch prior to getting our car?

~We have committed to doing the Crystal Palace dinner on 5/30 prior to Electrical Parade because DD LOVES ADORES CHERISHES Pooh & co. The price makes me ill because there is NO WAY I will eat $42 bucks in shrimp, but these are the things we do....is the dinner experience to see the characters in this setting worth it?

~Opinions on dining at IoA or US? I am looking into the WWOHP BF option at the 3Bs.

~Is there a certain Room I should request at TRex? I’ve seen some vaguely talked about...also BIG SNAFU - I booked our ressies with only 2 guests by accident....when I called WDW to see if we could change they said couldn’t - sobs! So I think we are just going to try to wing it and go hoping they will let DH and I sit at a 2 person table with a high chair :/ I will keep calling of course.

~I still would love to have dinner at Ohana and have been checking daily for reservations before the owls come out...with no luck. I’ll try up until we get there and may call on certain days where it may work out for last minute openings...best days for us would be Mon 5/28 or Tues 5/29. I could make others work too if opportunity strikes, but the thought of moving it all around....again, cuts me deep. Is this a waste of time? Am I putting too much stock in this place?

~We really couldn't do Crystal Palace AND Cinderella's Castle so we went with CP as DD loves Pooh....although I've still been checking for an early BF ADR instead of dinner for CP to get pics and then I'd change Kona to lunch or dinner

~Couldn't get BF ADR at Tusker sadly, but gotta leave something for next time!

~The BF Banquet at Akershus seems a bit light for $36 - anyone do BF here? Is dinner better?

~Is there anywhere I might be missing out on that is an absolute MUST? Is there anywhere on this list you find highly overrated? Come on people, give me your dining dirt!

I wouldn’t be American if I forgot the snacks

Again, my neat-o table fails me:

1. Cream Cheese Pretzel rumored to be available at MK TL Lunching Pad, Pretzel Garden in the Streets of America at DHS, Fife & Drum in America WS at Epcot

2. Dole Whip at Isle of Aloha in ADventureland MK

3. Epcot WS hits: Boulangerie (france), Crepes Stand (France), Kringla (Norway). Goal is to obtain something buttery, baked and over 1000 calories

4. Egg Rolls from Yak & Yeti in AK along with apparently the only sweet tea available at the world across the way per inside sources.

5. Butterbeer (1 cold, 1 frozen) from 3 Broomsticks or Hog’s Head or kiosk with the shortest line with one of those nifty little collector’s mugs.

What matters most: Adult Libations

Now I started to list and make a fancy chart and attempt to navigate the SELECTION...but it proved too big a task for my itty bitty brain. So I made an executive decision...

Play it by mouse ears.

We will definitely drink around Epcot - split by 2 nights (Mon & Tues) and probably share each drink so we can remain good responsible pillars of the community - not to mention parents.

AK seems to have some fun froo froo drinks for me that I’ll try, but DH will stick to a beer I am sure.

I have a feeling our debit card will receive the Cinderella treatment at Hurricane Hanna’s for poolside refreshment.

Gahhhh, I’m starving now.

Disclaimer: This is not a "budget" trip. This post is mainly to illustrate MY budget and to find a few places where I am totally hypocritical when it comes to justifying expenditures.

In planning this trip, budget is on the forefront of my mind, as I am sure it is for everyone (well, those who find limited and disposable synonymous when it comes to income), but didn’t see a lot of use in a post about this until I started to tackle the OOP vs DDP decision.

38110d51.jpg

So let’s start at the very beginning....a very good place to staaaaart (anyone else watch Sound of Music on ABC family last Easter weekend?).

Also, I am keeping my USO budget separate because both require different methodologies.

Logisticizing the Illogical

aa07f4e5.jpg

A quick note about how I justify this “budget” - now budget is a flexible and subjective word in my world. My budget is based off of a few things:

1. How much is in my Vacation Savings: I get this partially funded by our annual tax refund and extra paychecks (we get 4/year with no financial responsibilities in our household and I split these funds between vacation monies and regular savings). Another practice I am fond of is occasionally change scrounging in DH’s commuter vehicle - it’s like discovering the hidden treasure at the end of Goonies every time.

9c094f0c.jpg

2. Coupon/Sale savings: Basically, I shop sales with coupons- so does everyone, you might say! Well, true, but instead of just oohing and ahhing over the final total, I track the actual number each month that I “save” with each purchase and earmark this money for vacation AFTER I pay bills, budget expenditures and contribute to regular savings/retirement account.

Can I always sock away the total amount “saved” each month? No. Why? Because it’s NOT actually money “saved” - I still spent my cold hard cash, although just not as much.

Why not just increase your savings contributions or have a SET amount for vacation funds every month, you might ALSO ask. Because I am also WEAK. And I need a regimented plan to get me through the dollars and cents that is life. I’ll explain:

d8a47c29.jpg

-Semantics and verbiage matter to humans: The way a word is presented alters meaning. I find this most useful when trying to convince myself it is okay to spend money on *insert wasteful expenditure here like my tenth razor for the fabled stockpile*. Presented with such a good deal, I almost NEVER look at the Total, but I cling to the TOTAL SAVINGS number at the bottom of my receipt like it is my personal Holy Grail and almost immediately text DH with the pride of a beauty queen’s mama. So did I really save? Well, actually no, BUT when we get all philosophical and subjective....Heck Yeah I did Baby!

-This is simpler: If I allot money for some alternative “savings” like a vacation fund that isn’t long term, I will most certainly find a reason not to keep it there. I’ll need new glasses or DH’s scrubs ripped at his nethers or DD ate someone’s prized truffle and now I have to fly to some remote cow patty to get a replacement....kwim? We’ve all been there. So really , there is no difference in my method, except excessive complicated number games and time wasting, but it works for me because I’ve put semantics behind logic and reason and with the overpowering fist of delusional subjectivity, I have found a method that works for me.

**starting to think I’m giving way TMI and folk are gonna start calling psych consults on me any moment....*whistles and looks around shiftily*...nope, no head jockeys up in here...moving on!

Can I Pay Any More for Bed Bugs?

I know I covered earlier that we are staying at the Beach Club and even listed some details, but I am going to risk boring you with repetitiveness and given this is my PTR and I am thinking only like two people are following, we could come to an accord that you won’t ditch me over 200 words. Cool?

Like I stated earlier, I booked a Standard View Room at Beach Club with the special requests of full balcony, 2 queen beds and eastern side facing the woods/closest to epcot. This booking was for 5/28-6/2 5 nights at a sale of 30% (ended 3/31) off rack rate for room-only reservation. **I did have a PIN code via email, but it came in higher than the WDW sale.

Cost Breakdown for 5 Nights at Beach Club:

Monday-Thursday: $273/nt x 4 nights
Friday: $301 (**I find this odd considering Monday is Memorial Day, but cheaper??)
Subtotal: $1473
Taxes & Fees: $94.10
Total: $1567.10

Curious as to whether this was even a good deal or I was just being taken for some reverse psychology aka Sith mind tricks, I decided to price out Beach Club once again AFTER the spring sale and see where I was with cost...

Online Room-Only Reservation Price Check 4/10 for same dates and same resort:

Monday-Thursday: $390/nt x 4 nights
Friday: $430 (notice a 40 dollar upcharge compared to only the 28 dollar upcharge during the sale?)
Total after taxes/fees: $2238.75

Saved by booking under Room-Only Reservation System-wide sale: $671.65
**This is the cost of my park tickets!!!

I list this in detail because I have asked on a couple different board sites (with no response :/ - is it bad form to discuss these things? I’m Left Coast remember) if this is really a good deal or just Disney playing tricks on me...Has anyone here gotten a good discount on Deluxe accommodations that makes this “savings” look like bubble gum change?

LET ME IN!!!

4bbf9918.jpg

Creepy, I realize.

I know I let loose the bombshell previously that I hadn’t gotten them yet. DO NOT DESPAIR! I will get to it. Chillax. In the interim, I have done some fancy numbers crunching...well, my calculator did all the fancying while a coworker hollered off numbers to me because my phone died and therefore lack of web browser, but you get the pic?

Really, the Y.E.S. tickets were an absolute steal, but my dates aren’t qualified and I’m doubtful I could pass of as a student anyway...granted I’m only like 5’, so maybe....

6-day Park Hoppers for 2 adults - DD is under 3....score!
Rack-Rate: $668
Undercover Tourist with Mousesavers link: $610

In comparison between 5 and 6-days, there is only a minimal $17 difference for BOTH tickets, so I decided on 6 days just for the option of going even on checkout and WWOHP day. I almost really want to buy straight from Disney because I have this irrational fear of LOSING THEM. And I was liking the idea that my ticket could be loaded onto my room key card...but that’s $58 bucks in savings!!!! How can I pass that up - easily 2 CS meals and 4 snacks by my calculations.

My Van is Better Than Yours

Gas: $400 in the swagger wagon
Flight/Rental: $1300

We do have a 12 hour commute, but I have a Road Warrior, so I’m sticking with some extra travel time (flying from my airport to Miami to Orlando...yes THIS IS THE ILLOGICAL ROUTE...it’s like an 8 hour process anyway). So overall, including return trip...I will spend an additional 8 hours in travel but will retain $900 cash money.

We don’t make $900 in 8 hours in combined, so decision is made.

Drive.

I Love a Charity Case. Poor Disney Stockholders.

91bf6ad3.jpg

I must preface by saying I love the DDP. It’s so awesome I want to get down on one knee and propose with my best cubic zirconia. I love it so much and yet, I haven’t even used it. Why?

Because it’s GENIUS.

I’ve done a lot of math on this - and this relates to my situation and food preferences exclusively, but I really feel like it could apply to several others - and the math doesn’t lie. By utilizing DDP, I will be donating approximately $30. Wait, Wha? Hold The Phone Disney!

When I first came to this conclusion (was like $60 donation then), I rechecked my math...twice...with alternating plan...and then picked more expensive entrees...and made sure to add in dessert and drinks...but then remembered I would still have to pay OOP for a number of meals and add-ons for DD...and then remembered we like booze, so the drink that comes with DDP will be pretty much wasteful unless they give out water bottles at TS and I highly doubt that...basically you see where I’m going.

But I’m gonna break it down for you anyway.

First, I made a chart of my food plan and looked at each TS restaurant’s menus and selected the likely foods we would order. (I could order for DH in my sleep, so had no issue with this.) Generally, our meals would fall into the median price range with the occasional higher priced entree. I made sure to add dessert and non-alcoholic drink cost (opting for the most expensive options available). I did the same with CS meals.

I did leave out costs of tip, booze and any meals that wouldn’t be covered by DDP because in the end, that has no impact on what they DDP ends up paying for and that cost will remain the same (I even made sure to leave the “cheapest meals like Kona BF on the OOP list)

DDP for DH and DW for 6 day MYW package cost: $660
OOP: $630 approx

**This OOP cost was even figuring higher priced menu items I probably wouldn’t even order?! but would just to maximize the DDP.....dunno about y’all, but I am a much bigger fan of free speech for menus! Plus, thinking in this train of thought for a family of three while trying to enjoy myself is just way too much work on a vacation and haven’t I already paid my dues with the touring plans? I really dislike the idea of feeling I HAVE to eat a certain way on this trip...If I want 10 TS and only 3 CS, then that’s what we’ll do, but if we decide we want to cancel 75% of our ADR’s and just eat burgers all week at BC, then I want that option...DDP would negate all of that for us.

Also, I figure that I would need to purchase at least 4 additional meals OOP to cover the week and also booze is a whole ‘nother sitch. That extra $30 bucks I save by going OOP (and really it will probably be more than that given I tend to go for an App and a side for me and DD to share - WHICH WE COULDN’T DO AS EASILY OR CHEAPLY ON DDP) is a cold case of refreshing brew with my name allllll over it.

I plan on keeping a running total of our costs and compare it at the end to see if I was WAY off...

Now why do I love DDP now that I have explained why I WON’T be using the money waster?

Once again - Because it’s genius.

Disney has figured out - and I have NO DOUBT they are fully aware - that the average vacationer on DDP is going to take their word for it that they WILL save an average of 15% or so utilizing this AMAZING CONVENIENT FEATURE. It’s Disney’s GIFT to you just for deciding to visit. And it’s not a lie - you CAN save money on these DDP’s, but you must work for it and order the right things at the right places - so what if you want mac n’ cheese with chicken strips...it’s filet or nothing for you! I am certain people are not thinking this way on the majority and out of the 85k daily visitors, not that many have read the blogs breaking this concept down....so what in essence is the gist?

You’re donating whatever you don’t use to Disney stockholders and I can’t even be mad at them about it - why?

Because it’s genius.

quick note: I wrote this prior to calling WDW to recheck our reservation and finding out I could not add DDP without canceling out my 30% discount - which is ludicrous, but made my decision to forego DDP all the more easier.

**I am thinking my next WDW, I will do an actual "Budget" trip and see how cheap we could go for....although the idea has appeal to me, I doubt DH would be on board - he won't even eat from room staples for BF. :crazy2:

Okay, first of all....I think you missed your calling. You should've been a writer because you are cracking me up with your updates! :lmao:

Seriously though, I took notes on your last few updates & have some comments. Sorry if this all comes off as disjointed. But here I go anyway.....

- Love, love, love all of your references! Lost! Bowie! Sound of Music! Goonies! You're listing a few of my favorite things!

- Woo Hoo for more time in Disney/IoA/US! :cool1: That's always exciting! As for staying at US/IoA = we have stayed at Hard Rock & absolutely loved it. Really cool, nice hotel. And you can't beat the short walk or boat ride to US or IoA! On to the thrill rides: My DH & I are adrenaline junkies! If your husband really wants a thrill, then he HAS to ride the Hulk! Best ride in all of the Orlando theme parks! We also love RNRC, ToT, Dragon Challenge (if you only have time for 1 side, ride the red - it seems faster & a little more fun to us). If he's interested in some drop/free fall rides, he should also check out Dr. Doom's fear fall at IoA. I won't lie - I hate this ride! It scares the you-know-what-out of me. I seriously screamed like a little girl the entire time I rode it. The one time I rode it. The woman next to me laughed at me the whole time. But, my husband adores this ride!

- Tickets: I have heard that the tickets purchased from Undercover Tourist can indeed be added to your KTTW. I think concierge at the hotel can do this for you. Double check on the boards though since I've never done it myself.

- ADRs: I have an ADR-changing addiction. No, seriously! I even started a thread about my addiction (link is even in my signature, for real!)

- For the Sunday night dinner, you could do something in CityWalk. Lots of great restaurants in there!
- Monday - breakfast - I have heard a lot of good things about the breakfast at 3 Broomsticks. If you don't get there for breakfast, try it out for lunch. It was yummy when we went!
- Monday - dinner - Teppan Edo. Do y'all frequent hibachi grills where you live? If so, I say skip. It's been a while since we ate there but what aggravated me was there was only steamed rice. No fried rice!
- Tuesday - dinner - are you looking for a TS or QS meal in DHS?

- Kona Breakfast. We've had dinner there & it was very good. Breakfast sounds very yummy! Can you leave your car there? I believe there is much debate over this issue on the DIS. If you do go back to Poly for lunch, you could maybe do a QS meal at Cpt. Cook's. I have heard lots of good stuff about that place.

- Crystal Palace. Will you get your money's worth as far as food goes? Absolutely not! But, it is worth it for the character experience, especially if your daughter loves those Disney friends!

- Food @ IoA/US. It's been a few years since we've done US so I don't really remember anything great that they have to offer. IoA: We loved the 3 Broomsticks for lunch. I've also heard a lot of good things about Mythos but have not eaten there.

- Your snacks all sound yummy! You have some good choices there! I had the frozen butterbeer when we had lunch @ 3 Broomsticks. Very yummy! Now, I love sweets. But, it was even a tad too sweet for me & I couldn't finish it all.

- The DDP. Gotta love fuzzy Disney Dining math, right?!? I do the same as you - make a chart of where we'll eat. Then, I price out our meals with entrees, drinks & desserts. I even calculate tax & tip since I'll need to know what we'll pay OOP for tips. The DDP looks like it'll actually work in our favor for our trip this year. If all goes according to my chart, it should save us a little under $75 even with our OOP expenses. We'll see if that actually happens! :rotfl:

Love all of your updates today!! Even though I can't login from work, I can still read it...and it kept my Friday going!! :surfweb:

Your trip sounds awesome! You'll have to do a quick update (you know you go on vacation so spend time on the computer, right?? ;)) so I can hear/read about WWoHP before we go a few days later!!

On your ADRs, call TRex directly...i've heard they can adjust your reservation, even when Disney cannot!

Holy Cow, you must write like wind!!!
I wish I could read these at work, but sitting in a glass enclosed room on a platform in the middle of the call center floor when I'm suppose to be doing work. . .yeah I'd be the one who'd get busted ;)
I like that you explain your logic, I enjoy it. . .maybe those shrinkers will come after me too :lmao:
I know the DDP probably will gain a small donation from me, but it's the whole mentality of it's already paid for and I can get whatever entree and dessert I want off the menu ;) Though I still go through the menus and know what I will choose so I can figure out my tip. (and dream of my dining at disney!)
Thanks for all your updates :thumbsup2

We are at the Poly for this trip---the ticker's right! :thumbsup2 We've stayed at Beach Club and Yacht Club on two different trips, and we loved both of them. SAB is fantastic!

I chose my days because for the first time EVER-we are going to avoid the park with Evening Magic Hrs. (We never make the early ones anyway, but always love staying out late). I used Josh's website over at easywdw, and so much of what he says about the EvMH makes sense, I just decided to go with it and see if it works in reality!

Dumbo will not be first on our list. Since my kids are 18, 16, and 9, I am sad to say that Dumbo has not been on our list at all for several years. Actually my big kids insist on riding Peter Pan's Flight first every trip! :)

Hi!

Ill admit you had me at the Mockingjay pen (big HP and HG fan here). And the wand for that matter. My Mom can complain all she wants I am bringing my wand and my HP robes with me to wear around IoA next January.

Concerning WWOHP from one HP fan to another you really don't want to miss it. The amount of sheer detail just about everywhere in that section of the park is unbelievable. Especially the castle! There is so many neat things they did in there.

I would go to Ollivanders if for no other reason than there is a good probability that your DD may get picked. They do tend to go for the kids in the show (when we were there two girls got picked in the same show, don't think that usually happens but the CM (or whatever there called at IoA) doing the show chose to do it that way).

Oh and while your in there if any of you have a love for chocolate you MUST try the cauldron cakes. I think part of me died and went to heaven when I had one. I totally went off diet that day at WWOHP last Jan having at least three different cakes.

Also on the topic of IoA I've read before that Mythos is supposed to be one of the best theme park restaurants and held it for like five years straight? Now whether or not that still true I don't have a clue (we juts hit Three Broomsticks last time) but I am planning to try it but by that point it will be too late to do any good. Still maybe want to see if you can find more recent reviews?

Okay, first of all....I think you missed your calling. You should've been a writer because you are cracking me up with your updates! :lmao:

:thumbsup2 Thanks! I actually wanted to be one...you know, back when we all thought mortgages were paid with smiles, but instead I found a profession with a good schedule, sub par pay and high stress levels ;) I do write still, but find this much more fun than working on fiction sometimes!

- Love, love, love all of your references! Lost! Bowie! Sound of Music! Goonies! You're listing a few of my favorite things!

Obviously, I watch way too much tv and spend too much time in front of a computer, but I can't help it...too much fun out there!

- Woo Hoo for more time in Disney/IoA/US! :cool1: That's always exciting! As for staying at US/IoA = we have stayed at Hard Rock & absolutely loved it. Really cool, nice hotel. If DH goes on Dr. Doom, I may faint. I'm not prone to such afflictions...but really, I may faint dead away without Scarlett's grace and DD would have to call EMS on my iPhone which considering her lack of reading skills, may be problematic.

But, I think the Hulk will be something I might encourage, especially with our extra time. It does look quite impressive although a bit stomach rolling. Red side of Dragon - got it. Are they actually 2 different coasters?

- For the Sunday night dinner, you could do something in CityWalk. Lots of great restaurants in there!

I was so focused on the 3B's and Butterbeer, I totally forgot about Citywalk....oooo Bubba Gump!

I think we're going to skip Hibachi. I frequent this sort of food a lot, especially during my CA trips and no fried rice you say! The blasphemy.

I think Tues, we are open to either. We were going to make that an Epcot night, but since we now have Thurs for Epcot...we are open to anything else.

What really kills me is that we don't consistantly eat desserts...Like we like maybe 1 treat a day split between us and most of our sweets look to be at non-dining establishments so great on Snack credits, but again wasteful for us on meals. Also, I try to keep sweets at certain times for DD because given too close to bedtime...oh lordy.

I think I could even make more of an effort to get DDP to work for us if I wasn't such a commitment-phobe. I hate to be locked into certain meal types ... but again, I'll say it - so awesome. GENIUS.

Thanks so much! I am all about aiding and abetting. I'll try to get up a quickie on IoA Mon night - but I am completely unreliable in most cases.

That's a great tip on TRex - I didn't even think to call direct. I don't mind a two-top with DD in a high chair - I just don't know what they mind.

Holy Cow, you must write like wind!!!

Thanks for all your updates :thumbsup2

;) I will admit, I can shell out about 1500-2000 words/hr when it's personal/blogging.

Thanks so much - sometimes I worry my "logic" is a bit burdensome, but I have spent years being schooled in explaining myself and I am pretty sure half my job involves 50% explaining myself ;)

I can see the convenience factor definitely, but I am such a control freak that I can't even enjoy that part of it...maybe when DD is older or if we have more kids...I'll be begging for someone to take the burden from me!

We are at the Poly for this trip---the ticker's right! :thumbsup2 We've stayed at Beach Club and Yacht Club on two different trips, and we loved both of them. SAB is fantastic!

I love hearing good things about BC! Whenever I check tripadvisor, it's mostly complaints even in good reviews and everyone wants a nice stay when paying a lot.

I used easywdw as well, but they happened to coincide with touring plans' crowd calender and some other one that was pretty vague. I think the EvEMH theories he utilizes are the best; I look foreward to reading about your experiment.

With our change in plans, I've gotten a lot more excited about WWOHP - I think the prospect of being able to see it at noght as well as during their version of early morning entry has made me less apprehensive about time constraint and crowds. I plan on Ollivander now for sure.

I'd love to try Mythos, but I'm not sure if it will fit into our plans logistically and I don't think it's a must-do so much for us, I'd rather spend more time at 3B's, I think.

I was so disappointeed at the movie premier of HG at the lack of costuming :( - not nealry anything like I saw at Twilight. They should have given out Mockingjay pins to everyone in the theaters imho!

Obviously, I watch way too much tv and spend too much time in front of a computer, but I can't help it...too much fun out there!

You're not alone there! I love my TV & internet time at night! :cloud9:

If DH goes on Dr. Doom, I may faint. I'm not prone to such afflictions...but really, I may faint dead away without Scarlett's grace and DD would have to call EMS on my iPhone which considering her lack of reading skills, may be problematic.

:rotfl: In that case, I would suggest he sneak away to ride it if he wants. That way, you won't know he's on it. I would definitely do the coasters first, they're much better. But, if he doesn't like those then he definitely needs to steer clear of Dr. Doom!

But, I think the Hulk will be something I might encourage, especially with our extra time. It does look quite impressive although a bit stomach rolling. Red side of Dragon - got it. Are they actually 2 different coasters?

The Hulk is absolutely amazing, especially the beginning. You go from 0 to 40 (I think - but it feels MUCH faster) in about 2 seconds & when you come out of the tunnel going immediately into a barrel roll. It's fantastic! I read once that they designed to make it feel like you're in an F16 fighter jet. I can say enough about how awesome that ride is!

On Dragon Challenge, there are actually 2 sets of tracks. When you're walking through the line, you come to a room where you have to choose your destiny....or roller coaster. Go right for the green dragon & left for the red. They used to start at the exact same time. But that has changed recently. Now, one coaster (I forget which) starts just a couple of seconds before the other. There are certain spots in the ride where you can see the other coaster & it looks like y'all will touch. If he's up for the wait, this is the perfect coaster to ride in the front row!

I was so focused on the 3B's and Butterbeer, I totally forgot about Citywalk....oooo Bubba Gump!

Yeah, there are lots of great choices in CityWalk!

I think we're going to skip Hibachi. I frequent this sort of food a lot, especially during my CA trips and no fried rice you say! The blasphemy.

I know! I couldn't believe they didn't have fried rice when we ate there. I would definitely skip it if y'all do hibachi grills other places.

I think Tues, we are open to either. We were going to make that an Epcot night, but since we now have Thurs for Epcot...we are open to anything else.

Do you have any ideas what you may replace Teppan Edo with? You could do Epcot restaurants for dinner on both Tues & Thurs. Or on your DHS night, you could try out on of their TS restaurants (what about 50's Prime Time?). Or you could even walk to a restaurant on the Boardwalk.

Yeah, the desserts we don't always eat. It's hard to get a very accurate picture of whether or not the DDP works for someone. I'm hoping to keep better track of my receipts on this trip to figure that out when we get home. I tried last year but failed miserably.

I think I could even make more of an effort to get DDP to work for us if I wasn't such a commitment-phobe. I hate to be locked into certain meal types ... but again, I'll say it - so awesome. GENIUS.

I know....sometimes it is hard when you have these ADRs that you have to get to.

I think we are going to just wing it that night...make a pool evening of it and either eat poolside or check out Boardwalk....maybe ESPN. I think DH would like that best.

Oh, and to put my two cents worth in. I would totally do Crystal Palace. I have never eaten there for dinner, but the breakfast is GREAT! Little Britches will love hanging out and rubbin' elbows with the gang from the Hundred Acre Wood!
