The kids at my DD's school make their own videos and post them on YouTube, just funny stuff or interesting stuff happening around them, nothing too serious. They're in 5th grade (10 years old), by the way.

Do you think this is harmless, or should I be concerned about my DD being in any of these videos? They do show their faces, but not their names or where they're from. I know that I am old fashioned, should I be worried about this? We're thinking of telling DD next time they're doing one of these videos, that just to tell her friends that her parents don't want her to do it and she can just be the videotaper.

Am I just being too over protective? :confused3

It's fine. If you want, ask the friend that posted the video that she is in to make the video private. There are some security settings where only people they approve can see the video.

I post vids of my kids on YouTube all the time. :goodvibes

There are MILLIONS of vids on YouTube. The chances that some pedophile would see one of my kids, think evil thoughts, and then be able to track her down from that is extremely remote. It's way more likely a sicko would hang out near a park or playground and grab some easily-accessible child.

Also, I don't think it's easy at all to download vids from YouTube. In fact, I haven't figured out how to do it myself - lol.

That's what I was kind of thinking, there are so many videos, how would they find theirs, I wasn't sure though.

Good idea, I'll have them check into that. But they seem to want people to watch their videos, they're trying to get famous like the Fred guy they see on YouTube. Crazy!:confused3

This is what my kids want too. I think they see TV shows like iCarly and want that for themselves. As long as they aren't posting anything inappropriate, I wouldn't worry. DD11 posted a vid of herself crossing her eyes! :lmao::rotfl2:

I have videos on there too. The trick to becoming famous is to either .. 1- make fun of celebrities or .. 2- do parodies of songs.
