How easy is it to post things home to the uk from WDW.
I want to buy a lot of scrapbooking things and new baby thing and was wondering if I could post them home.
Thanks

Subscribing to this. My Nephew wants a toy gun. Almost impossible to find one in the UK that isn't either a Star Wars blaster, (not that there's anything wrong with that), or lurid colours. It seems no-one plays Japs and Commandos anymore. Probably too politically incorrect.
Anyway, I'm hoping to buy one for him in the US but i'm not daft enough to have it in my luggage on a flight home!

We thought we might have to post some of our things back home in August so asked at the Poly. We were told we could get a box from the gift shop and we should then pack it and return to concierge and they would help us with the posting it back home. The lady we spoke to hadn't actually done an international shipping herself but had done plenty of US ones so couldn't see a problem. If you have a car then I guess it would be easier as you could go to the Post Office. We didn't need to do it in the end with some very careful packing of our cases we managed to squeeze everything in!

Put a sample package together and weigh it, then go to theis site and it will calulate the costs. http://ircalc.usps.gov/default.aspx?Mode=Intl_Single&CID=10150

We send a few packages to friends in US, take gifts from UK in our cases then buy things at WDW and post them. Cheapest place we have found for boxes is Office Depot up IDrive next to Sweet Tomatoes. It just like Staples but cheaper, great place.

This is link to nearest Post Offices to Downtown Disney. We always use 1st one on list, very friendly ladies who help as much as they can.

It is very easy.

Thanks Wayneg:this is just what I was looking for.
I have printed off a list of the post offices.I might stick a few padded envelopes or folded up boxes in my luggage!

Good idea not to take it on the plane :scared1:

We used to take padded envelopes but our American friends love English stuff so end up sending them more and bigger things each visit so now we buy boxes out there. Once we have sent everything there is plenty of room in the cases to buy things to bring home:goodvibes

posting things from the US overseas is very easy, but can be expensive....
it depends of course how you want to ship it....if by parcel post - which means by sea....it will take a while getting to you....
but that's the least expensive..

if you ship by air, it's more expensive...

this past December, i shipped only my wedding dress (that i wore only once - 29 years ago) and two pairs of shoes and it cost something like $50....seemed rather pricey....

Agree with disneyholic, I am always very surprised with the shipping costs.
Also you might still get customs fees to pay when it gets over here.

WE went to one of the publix supermarkets on the 192 & bought postcards but they didn't have stamps for the UK. They sent us to a shop in the same row who franked our cards for us, very easy.

Can't remember the name but it was full of cardboard boxes & obviously posted items all over the world. Staff in there very helpful.

I asked this question on one of the other threads and was told most hotels at WDW will do this plus the World of Disney store at DTD. Wanted to know as rather than bring my Australian Cousin's present back from USA and then post it I would rather post it direct. Will probably work out the same sort of price as posting from UK.

There shouldn't be a problem with putting it in the checked baggage just make sure that you tell them when you check in that there is a toy rifle in the bag.
I've done this in the past, when someone wanted a specific Nerf gun.

:) Chris

We often fly with water pistols in our main luggage, for use in the pools, and have never encountered a problem :)

I'd never thought to consider mailing things home instead of it taking up room the suitcase. Thanks for the idea. :)

Always best to use your full luggage allowance as posting is an expensive way of doing it. With Virgin economy for 3 of us we have an allowance of 138kg, even on our last trip for 25 nights we only came back with 78kg so it is a massive allowance (even more in other classes).
I have heard of some people posting reciepts home for purchases and throwing away packaging to avoid paying import duties, but not sure its worth posting regular luggage.

i would have been better off paying for extra baggage...
the cost was just about the same to post it by air...
the crazy thing is, you can't even trace your package when you send it by post!...
i couldn't believe it when i asked about it....
so you ship something off and you can't even trace it if it's lost (as you can with fedex or ups - which are far more expensive)...
in any case, i shipped it with the post office and instead of the 10 days shipping promised (which i suppose must be 10 business days), it actually took about a month.....but at least it got to me....eventually....

The difficulty comes with those of us with low baggage allowances, eg FC is 20kg each or 23kg if you upgrade to premier. For a family of 3 that's only 60kg. When we flew in August we had booked before the lowering of limits so still got 30kg each, ie 90kg but we would have seriously struggled with only 60kg - would have to have done minimal packing going out to allow for shoppping in USA.

yes, but the point is, the cost of shipping by post isn't much cheaper than paying for extra baggage. You should compare costs before you post.

And consider the chance of it going missing in the post. Although I suppose always chance of luggage going missing also:goodvibes
