Hi All
Planned a family trip May 12 - Disney cruise and three weeks in Orlando -theme parks galore, shopping etc.
Wonndering if fellow travellers have some good tips on sending parcels back to Aust. rather than paying for excess luggage
Cheapest way, best service, etc

Posting parcels can be quite expensive. Maybe look into pre-booked additional baggage. I think Qantas charges around 103.00 for an additional bag 23kg if it is booked at least 24 hours in advance. I think the limit is one extra at that rate.

I always just pay for excessive luggage as it works out much more expensive to post thing back! It is actually not too bad to pay for excess luggage as they do it on an extra bag rather than how many kilos you are over.

Qantas have a thing where if you have enough frequent flyer points you can use your points to purchase an extra bag.

Also, i get the compression travel bags for clothes you will be amazed how many clothes you can get into those bags!!

Have a great trip!

I have always posted a box back because I didn't want to schlep all the stuff around. And I think it can be fun for people (esp. kids) to get their gifts in the mail with US stamps! I do think it is cheaper to take excess baggage than mailing. There is a USPS Office outside WDW near DTD but on the other side of the main road that borders DTD. I've also had Disney post packages from the hotel - but that would be the most expensive option. As I said - for me it is about not about expense but not having to carry too much stuff
Qantas is $105 / 23kg piece
USPS is $58 / 9 kilo box - so 23 kg would be $145
9 kilos can be quite a lot - think about a qantas carry on bag is limited to 7 kilos and all the things you might jam into a carryon - so it may be cheaper to post if you only have 1 box rather than paying for a full 23 kilos (I suppose it depends on how big your family is)

thanks for the replies -I will look into prepaying for excess luggage for the return flight.
Will be more than likely flying qantas so could use points as suggested.

Oh this is good to know, I plan on taking excess baggage but I will have to offload after the first few weeks before my tours and boat.. the only issue with traveling for so long

I am sure you will know this but Qantas allows each passenger 2bags at 23kg - each member of your family will only need one bag on the way over (probably not full) - so they can each bring an additional 23kg bag of shopping home for free!!

I have a question for you guys if I could please (sorry don't mean to hijack the thread, this sort of pertains to the topic)

I am flying over to Australia in a week and a half, and I am getting nervous because one of my suitcases measures out to be around 67 inches total, and I know that Qantas' website states that no one checked luggage can be more than 62 inches total. Do they really adhere to this rule? I am going to make sure my bags weigh less than what the limit is, but the measurements are what is making me sort of nervous as I don't have another suitcase except for the two I am taking with me....

I have always flown Qantas - admittedly I am a very light packer and don't have anything that big. They did on 1 June introduce tough new baggage restrictions which at the time caught out a lot of travellers.
I couldn't find anything on their site about how much is the charge for exceeding size - they only show for exceed weight and number of pieces. I recommend contacting them.
