Using up codes

When I talked to CRO while booking my Dec. trip the guy told me that rooms people book with a code and then decide to cancel DO NOT go back as "code price" rooms.

As I understood it, the rooms go back into the general pool of rooms.

So, does this mean- when people who book under AP rates to get a discount (not really intending to get AP just awaiting regular codes) cancel the rooms they go back to the regular room pool and are not available as AP discount rooms again??

That would really be a bummer! and also a reason for all of us on these boards to book AP code rooms only if we are buying AP's. I understand that AP rates sell out FAST.

Before I get flamed, I am mainly asking the question as it was explained to me by CRO- cancelled code price rooms go back to the general pool.

I'm not sure how it works.

But, don't trust everything CRO says. I get wrong info at least 50% of the time I ask a question.

This isn't the first time this issue has been discussed. It seems that CRO's position is as you have written. A room booked at a special rate, when canceled, does not return to the special rate pool.

Raelee, what you were told by CRO is correct. Once a room is booked with a code/ap rate that is it. If it is cancelled, the room becomes available but at a regular price, the discounted rate is no longer available.

CRO was telling me the right information- HURRAY! I've had pretty good luck with this but never hurts to check with the "experts" at DIS.

So I am assuming that this subject has been debated-

People who reserve AP rates while awaiting "good" regular codes basically cause those AP rooms to be lost forever so that those with (or actually intending to buy) AP's can't get the good rates.

Doesn't seem fair...

Why doesn't Disney code the rooms so that they go back to a certain pool-

rack rate, regular codes, AP rate, etc

Although the rooms do initially go back into the pool, I'm sure that Disney is always monitoring their bookings and may "rediscount" the rooms if they need to fill the rooms.
