Hi,

Does anyone know for sure if the posted stand by line wait times are to the preshow or the actual ride? Example, today at the TofT the posted stand by time was 15mins which was spot on for entering the preshow but not for when we actually entered the elevator.

I don't know what the official answer would be, but it really seems to vary. What I think it *should* be is the total time in line. For ToT that would include the time waiting before the preshow and any more waiting just before boarding. My son and I rode ToT 15 times in the last few days (and I could have ridden a lot more!), sometimes with fastpasses and sometimes in the standby line. The posted wait times were sometimes accurate, but sometimes 1/2 the posted time and sometimes a little more (usually less). Sometimes most of the waiting was done after the preshow, which made the fastpass a waste of time. Other times the fastpass shaved 5-10 and once maybe 15 minutes off the wait.

The ToT waits seemed to really vary, even when riding back-to-back.

When we were at MGM in November, my wife was handed a placard by a CM at the beginning of tower of terror line that was used to time our travel through the ride line. The directions were to carry the placard and hand it to the CM on the other end when we got on the ride. I assume they use the data collected from these placards to post the wait time meaning the wait is to the point of boarding on the actual ride.

I'm pretty sure that its posted to reflect how long until you get onto the ride itself. We have been asked a few times to carry the tag thing and every time have given it to the CM right before we got on the ride, so I would think that the account for preshow time then.

I know this doesn't help for pre-planning, but you can ask the CM greeter, usually at the entrance or fast pass machines.

I was thinking about RnR last year but would be riding solo, leaving my husband with the kiddos. I wanted to give him an accurate time and she was able to tell me how long the ride was including pre-show to add to the wait time, rendering it impossible before our ps's.

Someday I'll ride that darn rollercoaster....

Whatever the wait time is - ride it! It was great! I am 35 and rode it with my 2 dd 6 and 12. I wish I could have ridden it a few more times. I had been to WDW as a teen twice, but it was a first trip for the rest of my family. ToT and RnR were the only things I demanded that I got a chance to ride. (Ok, Winnie the Pooh too  )

I've read that they intentionally overestimate the wait time so that if you get in earlier, you are pleased. I assume the preshow is part of the ride as well.
