I was getting afraid this wouldn't be done in time, since we leave in 3 weeks! But I am finally in the final stage - glitter paint and do-dads galore!! I hope to be done with it all this week, then I have to move on to finishing dd's Merida cape & accessories, and hemming up another costume for her. Oh, I still have to cut and style my hair piece for Giselle too. It looks SO MUCH BIGGER in person than this photo seems to make it look...

hair piece tests...first one is not the one I'll use, it was too dark. I'll use the second one since it matches my own hair better but it needs to be cut down and the curls loosened.

That's beautiful!!

last year i had my sewing machine in the room and sewed sons entire pascal costume and 1/2 my undershirt, and quilted dhs flynn vest while they went to ak (my least fave park, so i wasnt too sad) and the nights after we got back from the park... (for a tuesday party) i was banned from bringing my sewing machine this year, and told it will be done prior, or im hand sewing in the car. i didnt get rapunzels long sleeves on mine for the 1st party, and i cant remember if i did for the 2nd...

You're a crazy lady lol . I remember reading that you had the machine on the cosplay forum but I didn't realize you missed a park day!! You are my motivation to bust my butt this week and get finished. Is it terrible I'm just forsaking all non essential house cleaning to sew ?

Absolutely gorgeous !! I can't wait until I can sew like that !!

I love these !! So cute and fun !!

So, how many of you here are on the sewing thread too ?? It seems as if a bunch of you should be.

Aw thanks I was pleased with how they turned out for the most part.

I've browse the disboutiquer board some, haven't really posted. I get bogged down with all the reposts of pics. We can't wifi where we live (apparently in a 1999 time warp zone) so I just have my iPhone and those threads eat my data like crazy! They do some amazing work though!

Oh and as far as a simple Cinderella or any Disney themed casual consume I second kgilene advice of Disney bound. Or if you have Pinterest just searh Disney clothes and most of the outfits from Disney bound are pinned there. Really some clever ideas. They're just normal wardrobe just put together to give the feel of the character.

I LOVE making costumes. I think I'm going to be the Fairy Godmother. Thought about Winifred from Hocus Pocus. But figured I'd stick with Cinderella theme. Making costumes for Disney would be a DREAM JOB! All About Movie Set Costumes!

Oh man...I've wanted to put together a Winifred costume for YEARS. I definitely would want to put together the whole trio though if I go through with it. I'd love to see yours if you ever did one though.

Some of these costumes are amazing!! We were going very simple - pirates :) But, we're going to the first party, where it's still fairly warm. I have the long sleeved shirts for us to wear. Granted, they're really loose, but with the waistcoat, do you guys think this will be too hot? I just can't seem to imagine a pirate in short sleeves lol! ;)

Here is my costume, sorry for the big pic :guilty: First time uploading anything.

Big pics are okay. It looks great !

Question- do most families coordinate their costumes?

My family has never. Boys will be Kirk and Spock and I will be Merida and my Dh will be DH unless I can convince him differently.

I finished my daughter's Cinderella's costume about month ago:

I took the dress Brandy wears in R+H Cinderella and altered it to my own design. My DD likes to sing "Impossible" lol
She has the Glass slippers too!

My son (6 turning 7 while we are there) will be going as prince charming. Still sewing that costume. I'll post pictures soon.. It will be AWESOME!! Bringing his costume from last year as a back up or to where another day. I made it look like the Captain Hook costume from the Robin Williams movie "Hook".

Love the wigs and the dress. I was Giselle last year. I bought the Disney version of the dress.

It does get really warm at night still. I always bring a bigger backpack to put a costume or at least parts of one in it before the end of the night. It also holds the candy. ;) :thumbsup2

So I've purchased a pattern and loads of material to build myself the "redhead" costume from pirates of the caribbean... I'm overweight, so I was GOING to be the chubby wench that was actually ON the auction block, but decided I couldn't do that without hoops and hoops + rides= not a good idea. I AM a redhead, which is why I was excited about this costume, BUT....

My friend is going as Rainbow Brite, and our OTHER friend is now going as Patti O'Green! ...I mean, I HAVE to be a colour kid now, right???? What an amazing trio of people!!! But being overweight it's hard. I COULD be a boy and go with Red Butler- which would be funny, but I could be LaLa Orange, too!!!

So DISers, what do you think???? Do I need to ditch the Redhead and be a colour kid??? I LOVE group costumes!!!! I have some sewing skills, but I'd need a plus-sized pattern for LaLa orange... or some easy ways to rock it. Here's a link to what she looks like:

Ehhh I'd stick with the redhead, mainly because as a redhead that's another costume I've always wanted to do too! Plus I feel like people should feel obligated to honor Disney some way with their costumes...it's a personal peeve of mine to see things like Scooby Doo or Harry Potter in WDW.

whats wrong with hoops on rides ;) (says the person in the giant cindi dress) i say redhead too, and if you dont go with hoops, a stiffer netting petticoat could work. i am so with finally08.

BUT if you wanted to do this, this is going to be the biggest frankenpattern ever. the top is going to be a wrap dress, the skirt is going to be a split overdress, but you will need something under it, for structure so it stands out like that and so you're not seeing london and france... lol! so like a tutu skirt could work, or even if you put leggings under it... the sleeves are a not really a puff... here are the patters i can think of to splice...

good luck!

Color Kid! Color Kid! (Only because I am the friend in question who is dressing as Rainbow Brite...)

"we wants the redhead!"

I say red head from POTC would be hilarious and much appreciated at wdw! People love to see the less obvious characters that give a nod to disney nostalgia, -you'll get a lot of attention if it's obviously the red head from POTC.

I am in absolute awe of the costumes on here. Those who sewed the costumes and dresses, WOW. Talent!!!

We are planning to go to MNSSHP NEXT year and already are thinking costumes. I laugh because we have no idea what we are doing for Halloween next month.

Great ideas everyone!!! We will be at MNSSHP on October 4th. DH will be beetlejuice & I will be Lydia Deetz in the red wedding dress outfit. Can't wait to see everyone's costumes that night!:cool1:

We wants the redhead! Post pics so we can see......

I'll be at the party next Friday, the 14th. I'm thinking about grabbing tickets to a second party, depending on how I fare with character meets.

I'll be Bert-as-chimney-sweep. I just finished putting everything together last night and so far it seems to be a hit among my pals!

Here I am, giving my costume a test run:

Looks great! :thumbsup2

My son will tell you though, that costume gets a little warm! I'm not sure how he wore that all night, but he stuck it out. Have fun!! :cool1:

DH and I are going on 9/29 and were going to go as boring ol' pirates, lol, but then my amazing DD brought me an "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" ear hat :lovestruc so now we are going to go as Oswald and his girlfriend, Ortensia. Epic Mickey fans are going to be so jelly... :rotfl:

Unfortunately my DD outgrew this before it could be used for a MNSSHP, but we had it for Hershey Park one year. Yes, the eyes and mouth are set up with built in LED lights to glow at night!

LOVE this; great job! DD did Cheshire Cat one year; I used white fabric stretched over a large embroidery hoop, painted the smile on it and then back-lit it with an led light.

HAHA - I just saw this comment.

Outside of maybe a dozen Guests most just gave us weird looks. I'm guessing we'll get a similar reaction to our costumes this year as well. :rotfl:

We submitted this photo of our costumes to the Cast Member photo costume contest and won!

DSCN1437.jpg

This is AWESOME! :thumbsup2 My kids knew who you were right away; ENG is on of their faves.

We were gunna be you story characters until my best friend backed out cuz she couldn't find a way to do a cool buzz costume, so now we ate a mix of Disney characters my DD is still gunna be Jessie, I think I'm gunna be cinderella but in her "work" clothes, and the BFF is gunna be Pocahontas ..

Spirit Halloween has some really cute Buzz, Woody and Jessie tanks & T's....

L I have to remake her Merida dress with the better fabric I have as well as make the cape and accessories. This was the test dress

merida.jpg

Wow - great wig!! And your "test" dress looks really good.

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok with mine anyways.... its so pretty i can cry! sorry i had to be a total aw.

Absolutely amazing! I showed this to DD (who's 19 and still wants to be a Disney Princess IRL, lol) and she fell in love with it. Beautiful!

I was getting afraid this wouldn't be done in time, since we leave in 3 weeks! But I am finally in the final stage - glitter paint and do-dads galore!! Oh, I still have to cut and style my hair piece for Giselle too. It looks SO MUCH BIGGER in person than this photo seems to make it look...

Your dress and hair look fabulous! GREAT job! DD & I so want to do Giselle and Narissa, with her BF as Charming.

I thought I wouldn't get it done... but look for a Corpse Bride and Lumiere at the Sept 25th party!! The actual outfit is just a spray painted silhouette of the candelabra, but the headpiece and hands were fun (and the flames will have glow sticks inside!)
