This will be our first MNSSHP (Oct 6) Just my DH & I. I asked him what he would like to go as and he said "I'm going as a tourist from CT and you can go as my wife!

Manda's Mom

Dh, the boys and myself are going as M&M's (last year we went as Santa, Mrs. Claus, a reindeer and an elf). My mom is going as a 50's girl w/ poodle skirt. MIL says she's going as a geisha

RamseyTrio - how did your little ones do in the M&M costumes? we're they bulky or did they sort of collapse around them when they got on the rides?

Here in the Cinci area we have tons of childrens consignment shops and I picked up a couple of inexpensive costumes there for our kids - figured, if they trash them at Disney, no big deal! My 8 yr.old daughter is a roll of LifeSavers! It's really cute - a little tube that fits over her head with arm holes and very open at the bottom, the top it trimed out in silver fabric like the candy roll would be!! My son who is 6 will be a blue M&M - it's soft crushable foamy like fabric, but pops back out to shape when you stand up. I'm hoping it won't be bulky. Then our 2yr old will be his favorite bear - POOH!! of course!! Just wanted to know what someone elses experience had been! Thanks so much - we'll be there on the 6th!!!

So sorry - haven't figured this out yet - the first part of the above post should have been a quote from RamseyTrio - sorry for the confusion! :badpc:

I will be going as Mertle the red-haired girl from Lilo & Stitch, my DH will be Tinkerbell, my niece will be Aurora from Sleeping Beauty and my granddaughter hasn't decided yet. I'm just hoping the castmember at the gate doesn't turn my DH away. He's a large guy with a mustache so the costume is pretty fun but would they consider it offensive? My husband did win honorable mention at the Adult Costume Contest for the Funniest costume on the Halloween Disney Cruise a few years ago. (A man dressed as Richard Simmons beat him). Hi, we are excited to be going to our very first MNSSHP on the 13th of Oct. We've decided to go the Alice in Wonderland theme. Older dd will be Alice, younger dd will be the Queen of Hearts, ds will be the Mad Hatter, I will be the Cheshire Cat and hubby will be the white rabbit. All we needed were 2 more kids to be Tweedle Dee & Dum, darn!!! My question is, should I do the white rabbit in his "i'm late i'm late" outfit which is like the nice suit or should I do it in the heart outfit?

Hi all.

I am looking for help in costuming ideas for me (24) and my parents (45+). The thing is I am open to most anything, Mom is pretty mello about things like this and Dad is all over the spectrum (he once went to work on halloween as Rambo but then would outright refuse to dress up when he took us kids trick or treating). I am looking for ideas of what we can do for costumes? We probably will NOT be going back to our resort to change (we're commando style people - Dad is a retired Marine) so we would either have to be wearing it all day (which I am not sure is allowed) or wear some of it all day and just finish it off from a backpack or something.

When my Best Friend was going with the two of us were just going to wear nicer pants or shorts and a nicer blouse and some costume jewlery through out the day and come night, add a tiarra and become princesses. Now she isn't able to come with but my parents are coming.

We don't have to be a single theme either, anything you can think of that we can get in a suitcase from Minneapolis to Orlando. Thanks for your help!
Minnesota

PS My parents and I are all Civil War Reenactors so we are used to costuming, the problem with that costuming though is 1: long dresses won't work on the rides too well and 2: we belong to an artillery unit so there is spent black powder on EVERYTHING, the airports don't like that too much when they do the swab checks on the luggage(go figure :confused3 ). Thanks again!

Finally got my costume figured out! With the new bad hair... so short!, I am going to glitter glue it up in spikes and sqirls with different color glitter glue, and then take a black T shirt($3,on sale), add a bunch of different color and size stars trailing up from the hem and swirling up and over one shoulder. No one will get it, but I will be either The Milky Way... or The Aurora Borilious.. or the Night Sky.

Think I have DS, 14, talk into going as one of the 3 Musketeers. Fast, easy and fun. I will only have to make the cape with the gold trim and cross on front and the big hat with all the ostridge plumes. He can wear an old white shirt under it and long pants. It will be a little warm, but easy to walk and ride in. And it is from a Disney movie. He really want to go as a Disney ish character.. but he can't make up his mind, and he doesn't want to be anything his oldest bro. has been. That really limits the choices. I thought of him going as a CM... maybe from Jungle Cruise, or Haunted Mansion. The costume would not be exact, but close. Didn't think they would let him in if he was in an outfit that looked exactly like a CM outfit!
Also said he could wear his kilt and be from Small World. Won't go for that!

Guess, I will just have to keep looking for something for him!
Still gonna make that blue 3 Musketeer cape, got all the fabric in my studio, so maybe once he sees it he will like it... Or not!

I'm glad you finally decided on a costume!

pirate: My DS4 will be dressed for MNSSHP. I'm trying to talk my DW into getting dressed too. She did come up with the idea of all of us dressing up like pirates. She hasn't decided if she really wants to get dressed in a costume or not.

Son is dressing up as Darth Vader. We got the costume for $24.99 at Costco. It even has a light saber. Son is so excited and so are Mommy and Daddy!! Not sure if we are going to dress up or not!! LOL!! We did 4 years ago. My DS 4 at the time was Blue from Blues Clues. Hubby has a shirt that looks exactly like the one that Steve wore. So he was Steve and son was Blue. The photos from that trip are priceless!! LOL!!

Pirates, eh? On October 21, look for a 6'4" pirate in a kilt...that'll be me, along with my pirate wife and pirate kids.

aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, Ya Know?

sorry, no worse pirates than Minnesota pirates........

We will be there Oct. 21st. DH, DD6 and myself. I would love some help with Costume ideas. If anyone has some to spare.

My 5 year-old had to help me come up with this. My family travels often to Hawaii so we have quite a few muumuus for the girls and aloha print shirts for the guys. My parents will be with us (their first time at WDW!! They're die-hard D-land folks so this should be fun!) so they'll wear their Hawaiian print clothes, my DH and I will wear ours, and my daughter will be Lilo! I have the wig, green wreat/headband, sandals (from Hilo Hatties) and I'm making her muumuu. My mom decided to get us all matching leis so we'll coordinate for the pictures. We even found a Stitch backpack (think stuffed animal Stitch with straps) for her to wear to complete the costume.
Last year she was Jesse and the adults went as, well, tired parents. This year, naps all around before the party and we'll be knocking at the gates at 4:00!
We're going on the 30th. CANNNOT wait!!!!

Is it a complete no-no to go as characters from a competing studio's movie? Specifically, DH and I are considering going as Shrek and Fiona (because I'm too tired to make our original costumes of Eilonwy and Taran before we leave in two weeks)....and we can purchase my "Fiona" dress and pull together a "Shrek" with pieces we already own, which would cut down on the stress of having to rush and make costumes.

What do y'all think? Would that be really frowned on?

Erica

iwynlea...it's completely ALRIGHT to go as other characters other than Disney! :sunny: If you click on the first page of this thread you'll see my DS Erich from last year,he'd fit right in with you and your DH...he was Puss N Boots from Shrek!

Thanks, Baloo! That makes me feel much better! :earsgirl:
