Hello Everyone
I would like some feedback, for those who registered with Disney Honeymoon Registry and already used your Honeymoon gift card , could you take my little survey. I thought this might help others who are not sure if it is worth registering for the Disney Honeymoon gift card.

1) How would you rate the ease of use of the Honeymoon gift card?

2) Did you get most or all your items you asked for on the Registry?

3) How did you use your Honeymoon gift card, ex. shopping, food , tickets etc?

4) Was it worth it getting the Honeymoon gift card or would you have preferred just regular money gift cards?

Please any one who used it post your thoughts here. Thanks all so much for your time and insight!!

1) How would you rate the ease of use of the Honeymoon gift card?

Extremely easy - they are accepted anyplace that accepts Disney gift cards.

2) Did you get most or all your items you asked for on the Registry?

No because we just put a ton of everything on there so guests could buy at various price points. Then we took the lump sum and used it for whatever we chose to do on the honeymoon.

3) How did you use your Honeymoon gift card, ex. shopping, food , tickets etc?
All of the above. We charged everything at Disney to our room and then used the card to pay the room bill at the end of our stay. Much easier than trying to keep track of every little purchase on the gift card.

4) Was it worth it getting the Honeymoon gift card or would you have preferred just regular money gift cards?
For us it was b/c our entire honeymoon was at Disney and it was a long one. We would have spent the money there anyway. :thumbsup2

We had the worst trouble trying to get it set up.
I tried to set it up - then it didn't exist. Emailed them for help - no response. Emailed them again. No response. Called them. Left a voicemail. They called back a week later.

They set it up for me over the phone, activated the card for me and sent it out priority mail. 3 weeks later, no card.

I contacted them again. 1 week turn around time for a response.

They sent another card out. I got this one 2 weeks later.

I had a few people jump on it and use it. Seems like a cool service so far, but I get the feeling they don't have many people staffing the service and I was so super frustrated with it!

Works well for me since in Canada to order a giftcard online and have it shipped out has a cost of $25!! - little bit of a deterrent! My work wanted to order one for me as a gift before our trip and she found out the "shipping" cost of the card. The registry worked so much better :D

We're on a meal plan, with a $750 gift card so our card is for wedding swag *only* :D

Everything she said!! We had a great experience with DHR and we got a bunch of gifts that we used towards things like our Chef's Table dinner, etc.

1) How would you rate the ease of use of the Honeymoon gift card?
I thought it was very easy. We never had a problem with using it, and from what I heard from friends and family, no one had issues with purchasing from it either.

2) Did you get most or all your items you asked for on the Registry?
Our Honeymoon Registry was an "extra" for us - we didn't set it up to include our resort or tickets or anything that we really were relying on for our vacation. We set it up to include things we would only do if they were purchased, like spa treatments, Disney Quest tickets, tours, etc. Because of that, we got to do a few special things that we otherwise weren't planning on, and it was always a surprise to see what people purchased for us!

3) How did you use your Honeymoon gift card, ex. shopping, food , tickets etc?
We used our gift card to pay for spa treatments, purchase Disney Quest tickets, and pay for one of our special meals. The rest of it went toward souvenirs! Besides the usual souvenir stuff, we also got some nice pieces for our kitchen from a store in DTD.

4) Was it worth it getting the Honeymoon gift card or would you have preferred just regular money gift cards?
We liked the gift card because, like I said, we wanted to be surprised with the things people purchased for us. Of course, we could have used the money for anything we wanted, but we enjoyed doing activities that people selected for us. Also, it felt a little more extra-special paying with a glittery gift card that had Cinderella's carriage on it. :goodvibes

Thank you for the info LovesHerTaurus

Im glad it worked out for you in the end. I think you may be right about the the short staff. Every time i would call it would be the same person on the phone and i called about five times.

Thank you so much for your input carps09

I think the Disney Honeymoon gift card is wonderful. I was surprised at the presentation of the nice shimmery blue envelope and carriage seal. This gift card is exclusive to the honeymoon registry you can not get any where else! Makes a great souvenir it self.

1) How would you rate the ease of use of the Honeymoon gift card?
Maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10. Mainly because the website is a pain sometimes. It tends to be down or give errors, which worried me in that people wouldn't be able to use it.

2) Did you get most or all your items you asked for on the Registry?
I can't say most, because we did add a lot just to give people options. But we got over $800 worth of stuff, from drinks on our cruise, to dinner at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. Plus people really seemed to have fun putting together cards and other creative ways to give us the gift at the shower/wedding, rather than just writing a check.

3) How did you use your Honeymoon gift card, ex. shopping, food , tickets etc?
We're going in Oct, but we plan to stick to using it for what we actually received, with a few minor exceptions.

4) Was it worth it getting the Honeymoon gift card or would you have preferred just regular money gift cards?
It was so worth it. Yeah, we could have had that same amt of money given to us in gifts or cash/check, but then it wouldn't have been used for the honeymoon. We may not have allocated money to do the Sea Raycers in the end, and now we plan to because someone 'gave' us them.

1) How would you rate the ease of use of the Honeymoon gift card?

It was very easy to use. We ended up using our giftcard to pay off our entire Honeymoon package.

2) Did you get most or all your items you asked for on the Registry?

Yes! Most people bought us items off the registry for my shower. We were able to pay off our entire honeymoon package ( 8 nights at the Beach Club, park tickets, regular dining plan)

3) How did you use your Honeymoon gift card, ex. shopping, food , tickets etc?

Hotel reservation at the Beach Club, 7 day park tickets and 7 day Magic Your Way Dining Package, 7 day water park passes, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween tickets for one night, and a few extra restaurants such as Cape May Cafe and CRT, carriage ride at POR.

4) Was it worth it getting the Honeymoon gift card or would you have preferred just regular money gift cards?

We were glad we got the Disney honeymoon gift card because it made it easier to pay the honeymoon. All of the funds were on one card as opposed to having to pay with separate gift cards or Visa money cards.

Wow just found this and sounds amazing.
Can anyone tell me where to go to get more information about this honeymoon gift card. Hoping to book Aulani next month for out May 2012 Honeymoon. We are also making a stop at DL as well, since neither of us has been to the left coast before!

Thank you in advance!
Melanie

We decided to use the Disney Honeymoon Registry exclusively. I kind of wish we hadn't.

The Good

  • It's going to pay for just about all of the events/excursions on our two week honeymoon, and then some.
  • It's very convenient for us, just charge everything to the room, pay at the end with the gift card.
  • It's flexible. If plans change, we don't have to worry about returns, we just spend the money differently.
  • A bunch of things at varying price points lets everyone contribute without feeling pressured.
  • It's fun. We're looking forward to taking pictures of us doing or enjoying what was purchased for us and sharing that with our Thank You cards.

The Bad

  • Disney's websites are uniformly awful. This one is no better. Expect to login and find your registry items missing, or gift card balance is zero, only to log out and back in again and find it all back to normal.
  • Items available to put on the registry are woefully out of date. I've had to explain to guests and family that what we will be doing is different than what they picked, but we had to put the closest thing on the registry.
  • Many complaints from friends and family that the registry is difficult to use. When people are buying you gifts, you do not want to make this difficult.
  • It's not obvious. People go out all the time and just try to look you up at Target or Macy's. We've had people tell us that they couldn't figure out where we were registered. (This is partially our fault for leaving it off the invitation and putting it only on our wedding website.)
  • Largely due to the generosity of our friends and family, a $3000 limit on the gift card was not enough, especially for a two-week trip. And we're having a small (less than 120 people) wedding.
  • Having to pay for several things in advance meant that we paid out of pocket even for things that were on our registry, because people buy wedding gifts kind of last minute. (We're four days away, and have received gifts from only 1/3rd of our guests. The ones that did have been incredibly generous, though.)
  • Our honeymoon is immediately after the wedding. If people haven't put money on the card between now and Sunday (our wedding is Saturday, cruise starts Sunday), we risk going on honeymoon without the money to pay for things. I'm hoping this doesn't end up being an issue, but just in case, I'm budgeting for some out-of-pocket expenses. Also, if they buy something once we get back, the money is effectively wasted.
  • Oddly, it's just not flexible enough. Since we already paid for the honeymoon package and got Free Dining, the remaining list of options is actually pretty limited. Some of the options included aren't very "sexy" either, like the Cruise Line Transfers. No one wants to pay for a bus ride. So we have a lot of "Fantasy Funds" options, and some other things. Everyone wants to pay for an experience, but no one wants to pay a single increment towards something essential, but boring. (Oddly, no one has a problem with this when it comes to housewares, but they do with the honeymoon stuff.)

We went with this registry because it's our second marriage, and we already have a lot of the things that most newlyweds need. That said, turns out we still needed some stuff, so a backup Amazon.com registry probably would have been smart.

1) How would you rate the ease of use of the Honeymoon gift card?

Very easy - we used our KTTW cards for everything and just paid it off with the gift card - which I had kept in the room safe. There was no way I was walking around with it - I would never carry thousands in cash!

2) Did you get most or all your items you asked for on the Registry?

No but we never expected to! I put everything that we were going to do on the registry, nothing was dependent on whether someone else paid for it or not.

3) How did you use your Honeymoon gift card, ex. shopping, food , tickets etc?

Everything, mostly souvenirs for me to bring home ;) Like I said we just paid off our room balance with the gift card so it really was everything.

4) Was it worth it getting the Honeymoon gift card or would you have preferred just regular money gift cards?

It was BRILLIANT! We had such a care free time knowing that whatever we wanted to do was covered. We came from the UK so people who hadn't gone on the registry had generally given us dollars to spend so it was all magical for us!

Some tips;

  • We were on DPP but put loads of meals on the registry - like previous poster people said people don't want to pay for the boring stuff but would choose a meal. It means you can have extras, wine and tip even if DPP covering most of it.
  • With items that people were choosing I kept adding a bit more on - in a way that was easier for us from UK as no one was entirely sure of prices or exchange rates!
  • We did make sure that we did everything that people had bought and had an amazing time, I just looked at it in a very practical way. It might not be the most romantic way of looking at it but just maximise the benefits - choose things you know your guests will pick and don't worry what you actually spend it on - no one will mind as long as you don't deliberately mislead them.

Oh and it is very embarrassing when you get lots of emails from friends saying the site doesn't work...

The only time I wish we had done a regular list is when I am in the kitchen with old worn out pans :lmao: wouldn't change it for the world though our honeymoon was amazing :cloud9:

Don't feel bad—it's actually really tacky to put your registry info on the invitation (because it connects "you're invited" with "you're expected to give us a gift"), so it's totally not your fault! :thumbsup2

If people haven't put money on the card between now and Sunday (our wedding is Saturday, cruise starts Sunday), we risk going on honeymoon without the money to pay for things.

People can continue to add funds to your card even after your wedding date, up until the last day of your cruise. We had some nice surprises on our Disney Honeymoon Registry card when we went to pay the bill at the end of our stay.

That's why I didn't do it. I was following protocol. Didn't stop people from being confused. Many of them missed our web address entirely, since we tried to make it unobtrusive. Guess that worked too well. :confused3

We'll actually be on a cruise for 4 days and on a WDW stay for another 10 after that. And this is part of my concern ... I actually have no idea when they're considering the "end" of my stay! I had to list the cruise so that cruise registry stuff would be available, but this is one of those non-functional things I could never get them to fix. They let you do both, but it doesn't actually work. :headache:

Definitely call them up and make sure they know to keep your card active until the end of the land portion of your stay. I was always able to get ahold of a live, helpful person by calling this number—407-566-7272—and pressing 4 (Monday-Friday from 9:00 am–5:00 pm EST).

I did that today. And learned something new. The registry site is down. Not only can I not see my registry, but guests can get all the way through the process and not be able to add anything. I've already had one complaint from a guest trying to give us money, which is incredibly frustrating.

Of course, my wedding is Saturday. I'm LIVID.

Hi Melanie! We also booked our May 2012 HM to Aulani! We are going 5/7- 5/16! I looked into starting a registry, but it says it's down right now for new registrants, that they are coming out with a newer and more improved site to come out around October that will include Aulani. Can't wait to see what it offers!!

So everyone is saying, you can choose dinners and excursions, etc, but in the end all it does it goes to a general gift card for you to use?? Interesting!
