Some of you may remember I had posted about my brother being from New Orleans, and him bringing his gf to my parents house before Katrina hit, and 3 other friends joining soon after.
One of his friends apparently had some sort of Post Traumatic Stress block. He woke up yesterday morning and couldn't remember where he was, why, who my parents were, why he wasn't in NO in his apartment where he remembered being last. They called a therapist who said they needed to find his family quickly for him, and to keep him away from the news and calm, rested and nourished. They said if he didn't come out of it soon to bring him to hospital.
I am worried about my brother too, as he doesn't seem to accept the reality of what's happened. He keeps insisting they'll go home in a day or two, he will continue to be paid and this is just an unscheduled vacation, his part wasn't flooded (it was).........and I am afraid when he finally sees, he will be so floored.
Anyway, just saying as I know a lot of people are under high stress now, and the news, the blaming, the gas prices, the guilt, and trying to do what we can, and at work now we are trying to gear up for lots of these kids coming in to our school due to the thousands of refugees we are receiving..........and I wanted people to know how bad it can be for everyone even if they weren't there when it hit and weren't refugees, so they can try to take care of themselves and their people.
Try to use some stress busters, exercise, take a walk, turn off the news................
