Post Prom Ideas That Parents Will Approve Of!

My DD-17 and her friends (about 10-14 people) are renting a limo for their senior prom in early May. They are looking for ideas on what they can do after the prom (of course, this parent needs to approve and so do the others). They will have the limo for about 4 hours. Of course, they just don't want to drive around. They are planning on stopping and eating, but that's not 4 hours.

Now--going to Canada and getting crunk as the "teen board members" are suggesting is not an option.

Honestly, Buffalo is boring!!! They are just trying to find a way to make the memory last and this Mom is just trying to keep them in a safe environment. One of my DD friend's suggested they get a hotel room.

So let's nix the hotel room and Canada ideas--anyone have any other ideas?

It's too bad that you don't have like a parent's after prom committee. We did when I was in high school (just about 8 years ago). They would start meeting almost at the beginning of a new school year and plan a safe after prom party. My junior year (the juniors always plan ado do the big bash for the seniors) our parents has the after hours party at an indoor play place that mini golf and ball pits and just things to play on and be silly. While we were playing and being silly, tons of door prizes were given away to the students there. We had tvs and gift cards and cash money. After the after prom was over, one our parents hosted a breakfast for my 10 closest friends. Our senior year we had a co-ed sleepover/pool party that had the parents in another part of the house. We were really close and just plain good friends who had grown up together from kindergarten. I hope your DD and her friends have soemthing fun and safe to do. I know many people won't agree with co-ed sleepovers but we had a great time.

This may not be an option in Buffalo, but some of the night clubs here offer prom night parties, just for teens and the tickets must be bought in advance. The bouncers at the party were all off duty policemen. We even found a limo company that employs off duty police officers. Our children, and us parents all had to sign a no drugs or alcohol promise, anyone caught with either would have their parents called and the parent(s) would have to come and get them, yes the kids had their bags searched each time they were about to get in the car. I was very comfortable with this arrangement and my DD understood the precautions and had a great evening.

A more reasonable option might be for some parents to host a party at someones home, chaperoned of course!

Did your parents know/approve? We went out for breakfast after the prom and called it an early night. I went to the prom with someone who was "just a friend."

A lot of friends of mine who went to the prom with steady boyfriends/girlfriends had hotel rooms. Their parents did not know.

lovemygoofy - the students and parents in our area plan a party like this for graduation. It is very popular and the kids love it.

I don't think that's quite what she's looking for!


Maybe you can plan something at one of your houses? With music and games? Other than that, I can't think of many "parent approved" activities

Going up to the Falls all dressed up could be fun! (They don't have to cross the bridge.) The American side just has beautiful places to stroll.

at the local golf course a bunch of people raised money for the us. to have a party with no booze or anything like that, it was like a casino night, and you can win a lot of prizes. it was fun..

We actually went bowling right after our prom, it was so much fun all dressed up with those silly shoes on. After that, we went back to one girl's house (her parents were home) and spent the night there. The next day, we went to Six Flags and had a great time.

I was going to suggest bowling, too.

We got a hotel room (about 15 of us shared a suite). It was fun :O)

Bowling--never thought of that. They could do moonlight bowling. I just checked out Six Flags as they often have after party events but nothing that night. They could go bowling and still have enough time with the limo to eat somewhere.

Also for those who got hotel rooms, am I to assume there was a chaperone of some kind? I also like the idea of a party at someone's house. Hmm, I may have to think of that as well.

Well that depends--what time are they getting the limo--is this a pre-prom or post-prom activity?

Up in buffalo--what are cool things to do in buffalo.

I lived near the ocean my senior year, so our prom was this:

All got ready together at one girls home....took pictures by the pond....all went to dinner together, then we went to prom. This girl was a junior and we were an all girl stag group until a guy friend wasn't going to go b/c he didn't have a date, so we invited him along with us. We got to prom whenever we did (after dinner)....and we closed the place . Afterwards we went back to the girls house for an all-night stay awake party....her parents were home, but stayed in their "zone" and honored our silliness. Our curfew was midnight to 4am or so that we had to be at someone's house. When curfew was lifted---we headed straight to the beach by way of a private beach club that the family was a member of....we watched the sunrise....then went to Village Inn for breakfast.

Not sure of the geography--but are you near one of the great lakes...cruise on over for that....

go to a video arcade, smoothie bar---find things that adults would do but teens can too.

What if they split up their meal--appetizer at one venue...dinner at another...dessert at a 3rd.

Go play putt putt golf...go bowling!

sometimes the most fun activities are those that you really wouldn't do in the daytime, but seem neat when you are all dressed for the prom.

I believe they will be eating a full meal at the Prom. That's generally how it's done. So they were thinking about breakfast at the end of the evening assuming everyone would be hungry.

I guess I'm naive or something--I would never, ever let my 17 (these kids are mostly under 18) go to a hotel alone prom or no prom. Besides, I cannot even imagine a local hotel letting someone book a room for 10 plus kids to just "hang."

When I graduated (as my DD calls it--in the "golden ages"), we had a pre-prom party at someone's house, then the prom, then we all went to breakfast and drove around (no limo). We had what you called a Prom Picnic the very next day. Each person was responsible for bringing their own food/beverages and there was no school supervision. What was nice with that was after breakfast, we headed home and changed clothes and headed to the park once the sun came up. It was a lot of fun and a good way to extend the Prom.

Some of my kids headed to Chicago with a large group of friends for a chartered boat tour and they also rode in the horse carriages.
