Post Office Not Delivering Mail ?

We moved into our new house last week, it is a huge development. There is a problem with my street getting mailed delivered. The post office told me that can't decide who to contract it to so it gets delivered. The deliver the next street over where there is construction.

I can't get anywhere with my post office, they tell me they don't know when the problem will be resolved. Plus they don't have a telephone number of anyone I can call.

So I need to drive to get my mail from the post office, and I went to order checks online and can't order them because my address comes up as undeliverable - so they won't mail the checks.

Has this happen to anyone or does anyone have a suggestion of what I can do next.

Thank you

I don't know but it sounds sort of illegal! :confused3

If you're really stuck in bureaucratic red tape, maybe you should just get a PO Box temporarily......

I would call your congressman. If they can't decide, then call your congressman. You shouldn't have to go through this. My DMIL is an attorney, and the Post Office lost some time sensitive documents that was heading to a court for filing...well, she called her congressman and that got somethings going.

Did you speak with the post master? They may be able to help. I have had major amounts of trouble with our local post office and spoke to our post master. Now in my case she was useless but it forced me to look online at the web site and I did find numbers and such. Good luck.

Yes, talk to the post master. If you don't get anywhere, I suggest a PO box, at least until the contracting issue gets resolved. We do not get delivery at all at our house, and have to use a PO box for all of our mail. Good luck.

Thanks, they gave me the number for the post master, but they told me in the PO that he won't have much information. I really don't want to get a PO box. When I go to the post office they have my mail in the back. Plus I have a nice new mail box in front of my house waiting for a delivery! Also the post office isn't that close to my house.

I'm thinking the same thing - I shouldn't have to be going thru this, because someone can't decide who to have delivery my mail! I see woman the next street over deleiver mail.

Thanks for the suggestions

Even if I put up a mail box at my house, I would still not get mail there. There just is no route that goes by my house. I think the post master is really the person to talk to. You might also want to talk to the people who are getting their mail near you, and see if it is possible that route is sent through a different post office.

I had no idea that there were places the PO can't deliver to.

You mean they're supposed to deliver through wind, snow, sleet, and hail or whatever, and yet they supposedly can't get to some rural areas?

Actually, I think it is political in our case. We are not rural at all, and people right down the road from us get their mail delivered. But people want each of the small villages to have their own village post office. If all the mail gets delivered from routes established at the regional PO (about two miles from my house), there is no need for a village post office. So those of us who live in the village, have to use village PO's to get our mail.

It's amazing what the "Problem Solvers" of your local news can do. Call them and explain the situation and how the people down the street get their mail, yet you do not.
Mention the fact that you have already spoken to the post office as well as the Post Master and have gotten no where.

Then sit back and wait for the action to begin.

What a Pain! A few years ago...they took all the Mailboxes away from my neighborhood! "Official" reason was they dont get enough mail!:confused3 :confused3 Even though they passed where the mailbox was everyday to deliver new mail!

So now if I have anything bigger(netflix) than a regular size envelope, I have to (like all my neighbors, drive to the PO!) HUGE PROBLEM!

Could not get any elected official/news org to help!

Good Luck!:thumbsup2

The PO did tell me the woman that has the route on the next street over wants to deliver to our street, but they won't pay her. This PO contracts out the delivery of the mail - never heard of that.

The mail is suppose to be delivered to my house, somebody just can't decide who to give the route to or doesn't want to pay someone. I am going to call the postmaster tomorrow morning, but I'm thinking I won't be getting anywhere.

i just came back from cape hatteras nc. We noticed that none of the towns where we were get mail. There are a series of little post offices and everybody has to pick up their mail

Our delivery is also contracted out. I have a GF that has one of the contracts. They were correct when someone said the won't pay her for that street. Contracts are re-evaluated periodically and it's at those times where new streets are added.

Also to the poster that had their boxes taken away because of lack of mail(not enough). The driver's boxes are audited at least onece a year and if the pieces of actual first class mail drops below a certain number... then yes, they can and sometimes will be removed.

The drivers are paid by box delivered(after the initial contract price). So if the postal service can lower their cost to their contractors by removing boxes... they'll do it.

Yes, mail delivery is something very new in our county and some towns(Hatteras and towns south of Nags Head) do not have this service.

I actually have a PO Box... always have... always will.

Next time you're here Tigger... wave as you pass through! ;)

So I may have to wait months for them to add me? It isn't like my street became new over night. July 06 is when we signed our contract for our house to be built.
