Oh. My. Gosh!!! I am STARVING!!!

I've was sick with morning sickness for a full month! It was absolute torture, I lost nearly 10lbs., I threw up morning, noon and night, I hardly ate a thing, and I was nearly hospitalized last week I was so dehydrated.

I've felt 100% better for the past three days, and I am *hoping* that I am turning a corner, but I am CONSTANTLY STARVING!!! It's 3pm and I've almost eaten a whole bag of Lenders bagels and a tub of Philly cream cheese. (What can I say, I woke up craving them, and after the month I've had, it's nice to crave anything! ;) ) I'm still hungry!

Is this my body making up for not really eating for a month, or is this going to be my new "normal"? I'm only 9 weeks, the baby is the size of an olive... I shouldn't be this hungry.

The hunger you are feeling is mostly hormone related. You really only need, I think, 500 extra calories per day. Since you had such bad morning sickness and lost so much weight, there's nothing wrong with doing a little eating for a week or two. Make sure it's good quality and don't overdo it. YOU will get most of the calories, not your baby.

That's a lot of bagels!

That's how I knew I was pregnant the first time. I have never been so hungry or eaten so much in my whole life. Thankfully it didn't happen the next time.

Be careful. Make sure you still eat healthy. After going without for so long and getting an appetite back, it will be easy to overeat. Gallstones in pregnant women are not uncommon and can happen if you eat too much/too fatty too soon after not eating much of anything.

Welcome to pregnancy. Good times. You feel nauseated one minute, starved the next. One day my MS disappeared - literally I woke up and it was gone and never came back. It was about week 10. I never threw up with my MS so I really feel for you. I know it had to have been awful.

Enjoy the ability to eat (more). It sounds like your body is trying to catch up a bit. But be careful how much you catch up because it doesn't all fall off once you have that baby. Damnit. :lmao:

OP--- I know exactly what you mean. I sat up one morning and said (with a growling voice) "I'm HUNGRRRYYYYYY".... I, however, indulged myself for the remaining 4 months, topping off at a weight gain of 65 lbs!!!! When my daughter was born, she had the nerve to weigh only 6 lbs 15 ounces!!! I asked where the rest of the baby was!!!!:lmao:

Being really hungry during pregnancy is completely normal. I had both my boys in my 20's and while I had mild nausea I never lost weight. I did however eat non stop. I only gained 32 lbs with the first and 27 lbs with the second. I started at 110 or so with both pregnancies. LOL, I weigh more now at 50 than I did at 9 months pregnant at 23 and 26. You really don't need a lot more calories during pregnancy, but you do need to eat the right things. 500 calories more per day is too much. Ask your doctor, but I remember reading it's more like a couple hundred more per day. Fortunately being in my early-mid 20's my metabolism was really fast so I ate everything I wanted while I was pregnant. My boys weighed 6 lb 8 oz and 7lb 15 oz. Yes, the bigger baby came with the lower weight gain.

I still can't handle "fatty" or chocolate things, and I wouldn't at THIS time consider bagels "bad", but I know I need fruits and veggies, and in the past three days, I've had LOTS of fruit, and I plan on maintaining a healthy diet.

Funny thing is, four bagels down, and I might barf if I see another one! LOL! That's pregnancy for you!

Food tastes better when you're pg., at least for me. Probably due to the enhanced sense of smell. I remember eating something, anything, like an orange and thinking that it was the BEST tasting orange I'd ever had. Glad your morning sickness is abating....enjoy being able to eat again!

I had morning sickness with my first, throwing up every day, until 14 weeks. It literally just vanished one day. After that I could NOT eat enough. I craved meat. Especially steak. I could eat anyone under the table. And I still only gained about 20 pounds. I don't know what it was, my metabolism went into overdrive or something. It is totally normal, just try not to go too crazy on the junk food!

This happened to me. I was sick until 30 weeks, and when I finally could hold down food, I ate absolutely everything in sight.

So yes, I think it's completely normal! But be sure that you're hydrated enough. Sometimes we can mistake thirst for hunger, and pregnancy leaches all the liquid out of our systems.

Very glad you are feeling better!

A belated congrats!

Yep, pretty normal. I went from feeling rotten all the time (so much for *morning* sickness) to starving. I lost a few pounds at first, and even after I started feeling better didn't gain a lot of weight. But then I started feeling ravenous all the time. I was even getting up for cereal in the middle of the night. I am *NOT* a midnight snacker, never have been. I gained 44 lbs with the last one, and Thursday he was 6 months and I hit my pre-pregnancy weight. Despite STILL eating constantly I am still losing weight while nursing.

Same with me! My first pregnancy, I would actually get up in the middle of the night to have a granola bar and a glass of milk:rotfl2:

Megs, make sure you don't let yourself get too hungry. That would just make my morning sickness kick into high gear!

After the baby is born and if you are nursing, you are supposed to add an extra 500 calories per day to your diet.

So glad to hear that the MS is gone! Now maybe you can actually enjoy your pregnancy..:goodvibes

For now I would eat.. You've gone a long time without really holding any food at all down.. Then at your next doctor's appt. ask him (or her) what the proper calorie intake is for you.. There's really no "magic" number - it will be based on your height, current weight, and anything that may show up in your blood work indicating that you need "more" of this and "less" of that..

If you want that darn bagel, eat it! You earned it!! LOL..:goodvibes
