Anyone had any luck in the thrift stores yet post holiday? Thought it would be kind of early but I did see a few decorations trickling in to my local Goodwill today. Got 2 stocking hangers for my cats' stockings at $1.50 each, 3 blu-rays for $3 each (2 still NIB with digital codes that worked!) and a brand new 10 pack of blank note cards for 50 cents. Perfect year round for thank you notes or anything really.

I'm thinking after the new year I may find stationery gift sets and clothes new with tags like I have in years past. I figure stationery is the kind of thing a lot of people give to people like teachers and coworkers but not everyone uses, and clothes often end up donated after the holidays when they aren't the size/ style of the recipient. Hoping to get lucky this year!

Anyone else had any luck this year or in years past? What should I keep my eye out for this year?

not at thrift stores but i've always waited at least a week to hit the department stores b/c allot of the better stock doesn't get returned until a week or so after christmas at which time it gets put back on the deep discount racks. i've gotten items that were sold out for weeks before christmas marked down crazy low but my best deal was last year when i snagged a north face down women's long coat that regularly runs for over $400 that had been returned and marked down 80% off.

as far as thriting-i would look for new appliances (people get them and don't want them-just look for them still in the box) as well as pampered chef items (i see more one time or never used pampered chef stuff at the thrift stores all the time but esp. after the holidays).

I would usually give it a few weeks for the thrift stores to get more donations from Christmas. That is usually when people throw out the old that was replaced with the new items.

I just went through my stuff and filled a BIG bag of clothing --many I've never worn.
My motto this year is if it hasn't been worn in the past two months....... it's gone.
This time of year is great to find many used and new things at the local thrift store.

I got very lucky today at my local Salvation Army. I found a vitamix blender for $8! I was thrilled especially because our old blender wasn't working so well over the holidays.

if you ever decide to buy a new one go to the vitamix site and contact them on their trade in program-you can get about $100 towards the cost of a new model. also, vitamix is AMAZING on carrying OLD replacement parts and attachments. we inherited late mil's when it was going on 50 years of age yet we have had no problem getting replacement seals and other items from the company.

Thanks so much for the tip! I will definitely look into this if we encounter any issues.

@jandm14 wow that's AMAZING!!!! Congrats on the great find!!!

DH and I are thinking we'll start taking weekend drives every now and then to the goodwill in a wealthier area of town. I've scored there in the past and I frequently see Le Creuset and Disney Collectibles there.

Our store has started to get stocked with unwanted gifts! I saw a lot of toys New in the Box at our local Goodwill today, along with a lot of candles, mugs, stationery sets, etc. Got DS a toy Thomas the Train flashlight for $3 that runs $22.99 used on Amazon and DH found a board game he's been wanting that looks like it was opened but never played (or they tried it and decided it wasn't for them). It goes for $60 new and we got it for four dollars. He's counting the pieces now but it looks like everything is there, and for the savings even if we have to eBay a piece or two it's still a huge savings. Very pleased! Anyone else found any good deals yet?

This weekend's finds:

treat bags with snowflakes and penguins to be used all winter season long... $1.99 for 60 bags
3 hardcover Minecraft instruction manuals for $6.50, originally $9 apiece!
large toy horse for 18" dolls - these retail $30-45, the thrift store was doing 50% toys, so I got it for $4.

I'm jealous of everyone's thrift store prices. I used to love to thrift but the ones around here are insane. If something is new with a price on it, they mark it 25% or so off the new price (never mind what the clearance sticker says). Name brand clothing is usually close to retail price unless it's REALLY REALLY worn. Wal-mart and Target brands are $2.99 each for kids sizes, I can get new off the clearance racks at those stores for that.

The dishes/kitchen ware/knick knacks are what gets me the most. Dollar store figurines for $5, corelle ware saucers for $5 (not rare patterns), they rarely have any picture frames for less than $10. I miss the days you could get good junk cheap.
