My friend and I are doing the half in January, girls only trip :cool1::cool1: I thought it would be really nice to schedule a massage either later in the day after the half or the next day for both of us. My questions for you pros are:

Should we do it the day of the half or the next day?

How long should after the half should we wait to get one if we want to do it that day?

Where can we get one? We are staying at BLT, so would GF be our closest choice?

Any other advice you can give is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks!

schedule now! I'm not sure of all the available spas, but GF for sure and the Dolphin. i have done the exact same thing and HIGHLY recommend it!

for us -- later in the day was great -- we could go back and shower and rest a little before heading to the spa. we didn't use a park admission that day. the first year we cut it close on time and took a quick shower at the GF spa, so you do have that option too.

schedule now!

I was wondering the same thing! I'm running the marathon on the 9th...would a massage or something later that day be too much on my body? I love the hot rocks at GF, but I wouldn't mind going to SSR, too...

My friend and I are doing the Princess Half and are planning to have the stretching/massage session at the course right after. It certainly won't be as nice but that is also an option for those looking to book a massage and can't make it to the resort spas.

For the OP, go later in the day so that you have time for a nap, shower, etc. before heading over. Like the pp said, book now! Those spots fill fast. I think GF would be your best bet. Enjoy it; you will have earned it!

I would skip the post-race parking lot massage and wait for a few hours before getting the massage. Studies point to a massage too quickly after exertion can actually create more soreness. The cells are laden with lactic acid as a result of the race and are tight. The body can and will absorb this LA naturally as the blood begins to leave the muscle. Working the muscle immediately post run can ‘lock’ the LA into the muscle; slowing the process.

It is much better to allow the muscle 2-4 hours to calm and relax. Then a great deep tissue massage focusing on the lesions created by the run is a perfect way to reward the body.

Thanks for the advice, Coach. Perfect excuse to try the spa.:thumbsup2
