POST DAY - Salzburg, Austria
We had breakfast and were in a taxi at 8:20am on our way to the Central Train Station. We found the offices for Radius Tours, checked in and met our guide for the day, Yolanda. In hindsight, a day trip is in no way enough time to get to see this city. It is through no fault of the tour company but with the long train trip to and from Munich the guided tour and time on your own ended up being only about 3 ½ hours. That was disappointing. The city is amazing, I just wish we could have stayed longer.
We left on our train for Salzburg, Austria at 9:25am. The train ride ended up taking about two and a half hours. Our tour group had 34 people plus our 1 guide. Yolanda brought her little dog with her he was very well behaved and off his leash almost the entire tour. Our first stop was a very brief one at Mirabell Gardens (where Do Re Mi from Sound of Music was filmed). The gardens were beautiful but with only 5-10 minutes we were very rushed.
We headed into Old Town Salzburg for more sights and commentary from Yolanda. The guided part of the tour was about an hour and a half with two hours on our own before we met up to head back to the train station.
More locks on the bridge just like the bridge near Neuschwanstein
The house Mozart was born in. There is a museum on the second floor. We did not have time to tour this.
More sights
The smallest building - now a high end jeweler where the shop only opens if you have an appointment
The little place where we had some delicious pastries and chocolate in, Furst. This is the maker of the original Mozart chocolate with marzipan inside a yummy chocolate truffle. We purchased some of the chocolates to take home with us.
We got back to our hotel in Munich about 6:45pm and decided to try room service at the Kempinski for dinner. DD and I split tomato cream soup and spaghetti. The portions were generous and came with bread. We packed our bags as we were flying to Dublin in the morning for our Ireland ABD.
I hope you all enjoyed this trip report. I'll be starting my Ireland trip report next.
