I'm researching the options available for our ride back to the Vancouver Int'l Airport after our Alaska cruise. Here's what I've found so far:

  • DCL Transfers: $? (Is this even available at Canada Place? Couldn't seem to find the info for this.)
  • Taxi: ~$35
  • Skytrain: $? (There seems to be some sort of surcharge? Or is that only if you depart from the airport?)
  • limo-type services:

Did I miss anything? I'm very interested in the DCL Transfers, i.e. how much does it cost, is the line to use this a zoo, etc.

Make that ground transportation in the title, not "round" transportation, lol!

As far as I know, there are DCL transfers, but I don't know the cost.

Yes, the surcharge (I believe it's $5.00) is if you take the Skytrain from the airport. But you'll have to manage your bags from the ship to the Skytrain station (about a block and half away).

We had no problems taking the SkyTrain from the Airport to the Pan in August. It was around $25.00 for the three of us, I think. We did, however, choose to do DCL transfers from the port to the Airport. We knew we'd be tired and just want a really easy option. It wasn't the cheapest, and our second choice would have been the SkyTrain if going by price. I have no regrets! We enjoyed being able to grab our luggage, walk into the garage and board the bus. No fuss, no muss!

With regards to Canada Line/Skytrain...

Personally I prefer the taxi....
  • more convenient as taxi's are queued up at the airport and cruise terminal
  • At $35... it's about the same as for a family on the Skytrain
  • Waterfront to the cruise terminal means paying attention to the signs and 10 minute walk https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...ap-A;FYwK8AIdKXSp-A&dirflg=w&mra=ltm&t=m&z=18
  • Not easy trying to figure out how to use those ticket vending machines.
  • Need to be extremely careful to not get on the "Brighouse" train to downtown Richmond vs YVR
  • this is not a dedicated airport train, but one mixed with regular transit riders. Need to fight with other riders for space to keep your luggage. Best to board near the articulated joint doors which has bigger space for luggage... until a cyclist or wheelchair shows up and demands you to move your luggage.

Hi there,
I was thinking of trying the SkyTrain but I have a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old so it seems like it would be a bit of a challenge with two kids, and at least 3 suitcases. Does the SkyTrain stop close to the Pan Pacific? That is where we are staying. Can I ask how much the DCL transfers were?

Thanks

Have you already researched these companies to get quotes? Would love to know if you have.

Thanks

DCL transportation is available and the buses line up outside after you go through customs. It costs $35 or $40 (not sure which) per person to the airport.

That's exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks! Is this something I can arrange on DCL's website after my online check-in window opens? Or do I literally just get on the bus after customs?

I would call and add it now. It is added to the total cost of your cruise.

We were in Vancouver in May for a marathon and took a taxi from the airport to our hotel close to Canada Place and the SkyTrain reverse. SkyTrain won hands-down. Much cheaper, very nice ride and I think it was quite a bit faster.

If you didn't add the DCL transfers to your reservation at the time you made your reservation, you'll need to call DCL to add them. You can also add them once onboard (if you only need port to airport).

We cruised Alaska last year with DCL. From the airport, my husband and our eldest child took a taxi with the luggage to our hotel. I took the Skytrain with our younger ones that would have required car seats (which we did not bring, since we planned on using the train and buses in Vancouver). The taxi was about $35. The taxi beat us to the hotel, since we had to go buy Skytrain tickets at the airport.

On the way back, we did the same thing. Taxi was the same price as from the airport. I believe we arrived at the airport at about the same time, so taxi and Skytrain are comparable for timing.

Hope this helps.

Children 5 and under are free when riding public transport (including skytrain/Canada line).

I've been researching this also. Since we are arriving 3 days prior but not landing until after 9 pm we are doing a taxi or aerocar from the airport to our hotel - Hyatt Regency on Burrard.

I wasn't aware that DCL transfers were even available back to the airport. I am wondering which would be faster - DCL bus or taxi. Would the taxi line be super long the morning of disembarkation? I'm traveling alone with my 9 yo and want something quick and easy.

Thanks

Skytrain does not require car seats. Neither do buses or taxi's. Private cars (eg rentals) would require a car seat.

Q: I am a visitor to Vancouver. Does my infant / child have to be in a child restraint or booster seat when travelling in a taxi?

A: The driver or operator of a taxi is exempt from the Child Seating and Restraint regulations under Section 36.09(b) of the MVAR.

Our DCL transfers from Canada Place to Vancouver airport were 50.00 for 2 persons after our 9 night Alaska cruise May 2014

I knew these did not require car seats. No debate intended, but I considered the Skytrain to be the safest option for my children that would normally be in a car seat in a regular vehicle. I do not consider a taxi, without a properly installed car seat, to be the safest option in this case. I would never put my small child into one of our vehicles if they were not properly restrained in a car seat (and that is with a parent driving, with safety of my children in mind!). Since we did not travel with car seats for this trip, we made use of what we believed to be the safest options for transportation for our younger children.
