We are debarking that Saturday morning and want to head straight to Animal Kingdom for the rest of the day. When I looked at the app, it didn't appear to have a lot of rides (especially for the cost), plus one of the rides had a 3-hour wait. Is it worth the cost and the extra day in Florida?

Animals Kingdom isnt meant to have many rides and rush from ride to ride. It is meant as a park to slow down and look around and at the animals, the trails etc.

Havent tried it yet, but the 3 hours wait for that one ride should tell you something how good it is ;)

And you can only judge if it was worth it after you have tried yourself.

@ChicosWife My 2 cents... the best you're going to do is get to AK (or any park for that matter) at noon in all probability (after the travel time from the port, stop at the hotel to drop bags and then travel on to the park). The "is it worth it" question is more of a value based one for you given the admission cost. Keep in mind that a one day ticket to AK, EPCOT and HS are all the same price and EPCOT / HS tend to stay open later.

Thanks! We really want to see the animals and Pandora, so AK is a big draw for us.

That one ride is the most popular ride in Disney World (and for a good reason--it is a amazing--but I would never wait 3 hours for anything).

But you are absolutely right that AK these days has not a lot to do compared to other parks and too many people for what is available there. There are few rides, a lot of walking between rides, and so many people coming in just for the Pandora rides that it is very crowded these days and shows like Festival of the Lion King can be hard to get into without a fastpass. It can be a nice park to walk around in, take in the ambiance, eat nice food, etc., but if your family is more into rides, I would definitely recommend Magic Kingdom instead.

How does the Fast Pass+ work?

@ChicosWife FastPass+ is basically a ride reservation system. X number of days in advanced (60 days for those staying onsite ... 30 days for those not) you can logon to Disney world's website and make 3 fastpass reservations per day. The odds are if you aren't staying onsite, you'll be left with less than desirable options to chose at 30 days.
