Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

I have a separate qualifying flight for the companion pass, so this trip would be after I’ve already earned it, so I was under the assumption I’d just need to cancel my husband’s ticket to then rebook him as my companion?

Yes, to add a companion you just cancel his current ticket. You’ll need to designate him as your companion & set up his info before you add him to your flight. You shouldn’t need to change anyone else’s flight to do this. I don’t know how it will affect anyone else’s luggage. But if you’re all on 1 itinerary & you have a SW credit card, up to 8 people on the same itinerary get 1 free bag each. So that shouldn’t be an issue anyway.

Edit to add… once you’ve earned the CP, there will be a link to set you your companion. After that, every flight you have booked will have an “add companion” link. So it will be easy to add once you have set it up.

Great thanks!

I've been debating whether to buy a Basic ticket using points versus buying a Wanna Get Away + ticket with points. It is 2,000 points more for the WGA+ ticket vs Basic. I think points are refunded if a Basic ticket is cancelled. I don't think tickets purchased with points earn points, do they? I have a SWA credit card, so I don't need to worry about check bags fees.

Does anyone know which is better? It is for a one-way flight in October.

No, tickets booked with points do not earn more points. Points do get returned if the flight is cancelled. Right now, if booked with points, seems like the only difference between WGA & WGA+ is where you’d fall in the check in line up if you buy EBCI.

Correct me if I’m wrong but they way I read the SW info if your fares went down in points all other fares except basic remained the same meaning you could just modify your existing reservation and points difference would be returned to you. With Basic it seems like you have to cancel, get all of the points back and then rebook at the lower point price.

Yes, Basic fares can’t be changed, only cancelled.

I am contemplating getting a SW CC to avoid having to pay to check luggage. If I’m traveling with three other people and we are all on the same reservation, do we all get one free checked bag, or just me?

Since you mentioned that you will all be on the same reservation with the actual card holder (doesn’t work for authorized users) you will have a total of four bags for free one each

I am nervously and anxiously waiting to see what boarding position DH & I get for our flight to MCO Thursday. I booked what I consider very last minute a month ago. I did WGA+ since the points were so much cheaper than our normal Anytime. I did get the EBCI since it was free on our SWA CC. This is something we never get to use since Anytime automatically has it included, so I guess that's a plus. I may be alone in this thinking, and I don't know why, but I have always had this fear of getting put in the B group like it would be the end of the world. It's only the two of us, but it just stresses me out to have anything but an A. On the other hand, it didn't feel like a good use of my RR points to spend 35k more for Anytime tickets. We are only going for the weekend, and I know if we get a bad spot coming home, I will be upgrading to A1-15 if possible. I am just happy to be going though. We are staying at RIV for the first time. It's kinda for my birthday, which is in a couple weeks, but DH happened to be on vacation this week and wouldn't be able to take off again for my actual birthday weekend, so we will be there for July 4th.

You are correct. However, when I found cheaper Basic fares booked on points, I booked the same flight using points from my account first, verified the new booking was confirmed, then cancelled the previous booking. I also booked two one-way flights for my trip to make this process less cumbersome. I didn’t want to risk cancelling first and then somehow the cheaper fare went back up before I could complete the process of rebooking (that would be my luck lol).

It’s definitely less convenient than the old modify method but I have reclaimed a significant amount of points back.

This process also depends on the amount of points available in one’s account to accommodate the very temporary reduction of account points between new booking and cancellation of previous one. This may not be ideal with a trip with more than a couple passengers.

Once assigned seating flights start, I will likely book WGA+ since I would not want to risk losing my pre-selected seats available through my benefits.
