Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

Schedule opened today for October and it was sky high from PVD.
I was looking for 11/1 PVD-MCO and it was the highest I've ever seen it on a non-vacation week. I passed and will wait it out.

Yea I wouldn't do it with a cash purchase
I do it with the gift cards that we pick up from Sam's and Costco since they technically already have our money.

My flight for March to MCO finally dropped today and I booked it opening day so it was a long time before I saw any savings.

The flight I booked today was $600 round trip per person which was absolutely insane but it is the only way to get down there direct :(

I don’t understand why these flights are so high right now. Round trip from IND to MCO end of June or even July is $1500 for 2. Even spirit is $1200. I won’t be taking any trips to Disney this summer I guess.

I have been seeing historically high pricing from DTW as well. My recollection is that, in addition to SW, nonstop service is also offered by Delta, Spirit, and possibly Frontier so I thought all that competition would keep fares competitive. D'oh

My fam is in Indy and I have always booked their flights for our WDW trips. We normally go in October as that's their school break. We aren't going this year but I did look at prices....roughly 30m after they opened and was $1,000+ round trip (only Anytime fares available ). Absolutely bonkers. Hopefully they come down for everyone booking

Just for helpful information it might be good to include what fare class that you're booking.

Someone's $1000 RT on WGA may be someone else's Anytime Fare or Business Select. And if WGA isn't bookable because it's unavailable that would bump up someone on their overall costs.

That’s good point. I was trying to book WGA and it’s very much available right now.

I wonder if it's the times you're looking at because at least the low fare calendar shows this for June and July (used 2 people like your quote said). I for sure see higher than that when actually going in to select times but depending on what day you could get tickets for half of what you mentioned RT for 2 people. I see just as an example that the early flights on Sat 6/28 for IND are the ones more expensive (both non-stop or with stops) and the later (afternoon to evening) flights are the less expensive, the reverse being the case if going back to IND say on Wed 7/2...obviously 4th of July weekend isn't following that pattern. I know you didn't mention your dates it's just to sorta think out loud because you can get much less than the $1500 RT for 2 people you mentioned. If Spirit is even high I'll just say you have my sympathies because wow for Sprit of all airlines to be that high ouch.

FWIW...if it helps those two months IND is less than my home airport for just the lowest fare :o

Holy crap! I have a NON-STOP option from GRR!:faint:
And for my return, it's a DIRECT flight! I have never had that option before! The flight times are good and my itinerary isn't going to include a 3-4 hour layover somewhere!
I will be booking on points and since I have an offer to buy points at a 45% discount, my round-trip cost for WGA+ will be just under $300! I'm sitting on only 14K in points right now so I'm quite satisfied with that price.

They must have come down since I posted. But I did notice the least expensive flights were at undesirable times for this trip. As in leaving at 545am or a return flight at 945 pm. If I’m on my own or with another adult that wouldn’t be so bad but I can’t swing that with a 7 year old. 😆 I’ll keep watching prices to see if they come down even more.

We try to do the earliest flight and when coming home the late flight but we don't have kids...it changes things lol. Even so waking up at 3am to make that 5-6am flight is no easy task even as an adult so I completely understand trying for even a slightly later flight time. Without this thread I wouldn't even have thought to recheck my flights for reduction in prices so I'm happy to have people give reminders :-) Hopefully yours goes down at least some :goodvibes

IND is our airport and the fares are ridiculous, we are older adults and prefer late afternoon early evening flights so those do cost more. Flying into MCO for our cruise in April we are leaving from SDF (KY) for way cheaper. I bought my tickets long ago, this will be 1st time I’ve never flown out of IND.

Asking the experts here - I'm doing the thing for the first time where I am trying to combine multiple small travel credits into a single larger credit by booking cheap throwaway flights and then cancelling them. Is there a recommended time to let pass before cancelling and rebooking? I don't know if this is frowned upon or something and I don't want to get flagged, but I also don't know how else to use all my credits.

Instead of cancelling, can you choose to change the dummy flight, pick a slightly more expensive flight, and then use more flight credits to complete that transaction?

The recommended time is two days. There have been isolated reports of cancellations before that going back to the original credits.

I usually wait a day before cancelling and rebooking flights. But I have also done it within a couple of hours without a problem. :)

Can you explain the southwest Visa card to me?
Im not understanding the companion portion too.

Which card is best?
First flight book will be this June- I need to buy 3 flights- husband son and I and right now just interested in getting 1 credit card.

If I had the companion pass- can I book that flight with the other 2?

Are you specifically interested in the current promo?

You open the card between now and March 31st, you spend $4,000 on purchases (balance transfers and cash advance don't count).

Approximately 48 hours after the card closing date where you hit the spend (spend is hit 3/31, card closes 4/3, then expect about 4/5, for example) you will see about 34000 points hit your Southwest account and you will see that you have earned a companion pass and to please designate your companion. From then until 2/28/26, whenever the cardholder flies on Southwest, the cardholder can then say that their companion is flying with them for just the cost of taxes ($5.60 one way domestic flights) as long as there's still a seat on the plane. This works whether the cardholder is paying cash or points for their flight.

When you say first flight book will be this June, do you mean that's when you'll buy the ticket or when you fly?

If you're not buying until June, that's plenty of time to hit the spend before you buy tickets. Let's assume that you're the cardholder and you make your spouse your companion. In June, you buy a ticket for yourself and your son (points or cash) and then, once that is booked, you'll see in the SW app or website that a button pops up to add companion. You pay the taxes and the companion has a ticket booked on the same flight(s) with a new confirmation number.

If you're looking to fly in June, then you need to be sure that you'll have the spend done and the CP earned before then. You would still only book the ticket for yourself and son now, but you'll have to wait until spend is met and the card closes before you can designate your spouse as your companion and add them to the reservation. In the unlikely scenario that the flight totally sells out in the meantime, you aren't able to add your spouse. My family had two CPs for 2022-23 and we're doing it again for 2025-26. I've never had an issue with adding both companions to the reservation, but I do make sure I have them added once the WGA fare for the flight sells out.

Also, if you know someone who has a Southwest card open, make sure to ask them for a link so that they can get some points when you open the card. It doesn't cost you anything else but they get extra points after you open. Dis doesn't allow for those types of links to be posted here...

Does that answer your question?

If I purchase Anytime fare does my companion get Anytime also, or would they get a WGA?
