Hi all
I know that selling is a sad thing but; We may be moving to the Orlando area and buying our first house. My question is, if we were to purchase 100 points as an add-on could we then sell our original contract and keep the add-on? I am guessing no but thought I would see if the veterans/experts could give me a better idea.

Yes - each contract will be individually deeded and amy be sold independant of the other.

You could buy a 25 point add-on , sell the master contract and still have all the benefits of membership.

Why sell??

I live in Melbourne--about an hour or so away from WDW--but we still manage 2-3 stays at OKW per year.

We've thought about selling, but what will happen when (if?) we move from Central Florida?

Just MHO....

Why sell indeed, we live in Ocala about 80 miles north of Disney and own at SSR & OKW. We use our points to stay as a get away from the house & stay at one of the resorts & travel to other places then Disney some of the time. If you need to you can rent to help with the dues as we do.

Thanks everyone for the great responses. I didn't really want to sell but wanted to explore some options. It seems we won't be relocating as soon as I had hoped. My ds wants to finish high school first. So it looks like 6 more years in the north for now.:sad1:
But at least I will still get to visit the Mouse two to three times a year.:cool1:

:goodvibes Ok so things have changed since my last post. We WILL be moving to the Orlando area spring/summer of 2009. We have decided for now to keep our SSR points. For those who live in Florida, how do you use your points for trips? Do you still do week long trips or just short 2-3 day ones? How tough would it be to get a room with only a month or so notice? Sorry for all the questions just trying to plan for the future.
On a different note, those who do live in the Orlando area any suggestions for where to live? We were looking at maybe the Sanford/Lake Mary area. It seems as though the best High school(Crooms) for our ds is in that area. Our other thought was Oviedo/Winter Springs.
Thanks for listening, any and all help is appreciated.

Well we sold our contract:sick: Just a quick follow-up on an add-on. We havent closed yet, could we still do the add-on?

Not through Disney, but you could purchase resale.

When I read this thread I thought to myself, one day she's moving, the next day she's not, the next day she moved, the next day she sold her points... boy this lady is fast... then I realized that the posts were months apart. :confused3 :happytv:

I thought the same thing too and then realized it all happened over a period of 20 months or so :)

I would contact your guide and find out. If you call today and say I want to add on, and are still a member, they may allow you to do that. Have you signed the closing papers or are you still in ROFR?

I was in the process of adding on when I decided to sell my first contract. It went to Disney for ROFR while I was waiting for the add on contracts to come. We passed ROFR about a week before my BLT add on contract closed.

Of course, since I have a trip planned in August, I won't actually be closing on the sale until then so maybe that played a role.

We moved to Orlando (about 40 minutes east of WDW) in 2007 and have decided to keep our points. We've stayed every year so far, and expect to use the points for other vacations. It's a really nice treat to be able to stay overnight at WDW. If you don't need the cash immediately, I'd hold onto them until you're settled in.

Good luck, no matter what you decide.

Just wanted to say good luck with the moving and selling your points. I would also buy a smaller add-on (if I had a large point contract).

Have you moved yet? Would love your feedback again sometime after your move. Hope you are happy and it's all you want it to be. Just curious since so many of us would like to move someday to Florida. Would love to know how you use your DVC once there :)

Thanks everyone. Yes we have moved already. We are currently renting but are on our way out the door to view some houses. We have passed ROFR but have not signed the closing papers yet. I think I may call our guide to inquire the possiblity of doing a 50 point add-on. My older son was a little upset with us for selling since he still le]ives in Philly and wants to come down with friends for vacation. Will update as soon as I have anything new to report.

Once you sell your DVC, all your outstanding ressies are cancelled as you are no longer considered a member. I would be very surprised if they would sell an add on to someone in the process of closing already with an offer on the original contract. That is why DVC only sells a minimum number of points on original contracts, so as to avoid members with smaller numbers.

Perhaps if you were purchasing with cash only...(where you could speed up the add on buying process) but even then it is a real long shot.
