Possible virus on my computer...

So a friend of mine has had her Facebook account hacked and weird messages have been sent to everyone she is friends with saying to click on a "video". I knew right away it was a virus. Too many signs and I have had this happen to other friends so I knew better than to click on it.

However, I forgot that dh is also friends with her on Facebook and he is not extremely computer savvy so he DID click on the link and told me a while ago that he had done so. He feels so, so horrible about it.

I have never had to worry about anything like this before so my question is if I use my antivirus protection software will this be enough to remove the virus? I have no idea what we are dealing with at this point.

Anyone have any suggestions, advice, or similar experiences to make me feel a little less sick to my stomach over this?

Its probably koobface. Google it and it will tell you how to scan for it and get rid of it.

Thank you so much! I googled it and I am fairly certain that is the virus I now have. I am in the process of trying to scan for and remove it now. Such a pain but at least I have an idea of what I am dealing with now! Thanks again!

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is supposed to be good at removing malicious software from your computer. You can download a free version from their site:

Thank you! I will look into downloading that tomorrow. I seriously need to get to bed. I have to work in the morning and wasn't expecting to deal with this tonight. Here's hoping it won't do too much damage before I can get back on here. Thanks again for the help from both of you!

Like a dingdong I opened that and it infected my computer. It ended up causing real trouble despite my anti-virus software but luckily the Dell tech was able to finally get my computer up and working again by restoring it to the factory settings. That only took about 6 hours on the phone.

I got it also. I'm going to try the suggestions listed here and see if I can fix it. In the meantime, I've deleted my facebook account.
