Possible trip to Calif., any suggestions?

I am considering an exchange thru II to go to California. We want to go to DL of course and would like to get a week at one of our world passport locations. I do not want to use points to stay at the Disney hotels. I would rather take my chances with an exchange. Less points for a week.

I do not know all of the different areas that surround Disneyland. The only thing I know is where LA is and where Anaheim is.

I was looking at the Four Seasons Residence club that is in northern San Diego and also the Marriot Newport resort.

I am not limiting myself to those two places but they both have first rate golf courses right there which is a priority of sorts for me and the Four Seasons looks absolutely gorgeous! We don't mind a hour's drive or so to DL.

Can anyone give me some insight to those places or if there is a better place in a closer location? I still want to have the condo style place. I do not want a glorified hotel room.

We stayed at the Newport Beach Marriott as an exchange. It is a lovely location, but not really that close to Disney. It has a great view but it is not that close to the water. It is on a cliff. The area is full of very expensive homes so it is a choice location. All the Marriotts we have stayed in are very nice and some are just as nice DVC. The Four Seasons may be hard to get into. I am sure it is even nicer from what I have heard. We loved the Newport Beach and were lucky to get a pool-ocean view. I would certainly call them myself and ask for one. I am not sure where you are from, but we knew nothing about CA. Don't go in May! It is very foggy and we had really cool weather near the water. The Marriot is much closer than the Four Seasons. We had a 2 bedroom that had a washer and dryer. It was large enough but not as large as some we have stayed in. The second bedroom had a sleeper sofa but not really enough room to pull it out. It sleep 8 but barely. Not really set up for 8 in my opinion. Good luck with you choice. Email me if I can help with any other questions.

I have not stayed at either place, however, I live and work in the area (I cover Orange County and San Diego County for work). Your right about Newport being a great spot for golf, with Pelican Hills being very close by. Keep in mind though that this is the most expensive course in O.C., so just get ready to spend some cash for golf in this area. Don't know if you are aware of it or not, but the Marriott Newport Beach is on the site that was to be a DVC Newport Beach. But DVC fell through, and the site was sold to Marriott.
