Possible to Get Backyard BBQ Reservations?

We have just booked last minute for FW...the end of October. This is our first time ever at FW and we are excited to visit during Halloween. I have been trying to get a reservation for our family of 4 to Backyard BBQ with no luck. For those of you with lots of experience....do you think I'll be able to get reservations if I keep trying. Do things open up closer to the date?

No personal experience with the BBQ, but I've had lots of cases where we've managed to get difficult ressies in other Disney restaurants by sheer persistence. We've even had some luck with calling early in the morning and snagging last-minute cancellations.

I would think this time of the year you could have good luck with ressies. I will tell you that we have done BYB many years in a row and last year we did not enjoy it at all. They have gone to this "assigned seating" stuff and our DD2 (at the time) was stuck in the back corner and could not see a thing. The food has really gone downhill too. It was so crowded last time that we really got no face time with the characters which use to be one of the perks.

If you just want a dinner show HDR is worth the money.

And for characters just seem them with a dining experience.
