possible Rivers of America problem (could affect Fantasmic!)

It's from a thread on that "other" site, and as always, it takes just three or four posts to descend into the usual you-know-what.

Supposedly, late in the afternoon of March 5, (maybe ~5:30) some problem arose with a track switch, and perhaps the Columbia hit it and derailed. As a result, at least one showing of Fantasmic! did not go on.

I haven't seen any news about this elsewhere, so take it with a huge grain of salt until there's some official confirmation.

Anyone at DLR today hear anything about Mark Twain and Columbia not sailing or Fantasmic! being cancelled?

I heard that both Fantasmics were cancelled yesterday and that they added a third WoC as a result, but I didn't hear why or anything about the ships.

This is correct. Both Fantasmic shows were cancelled on Saturday. They said it was a problem with the Mark Twain track. The Columbia was docked in it's normal place, but the Mark Twain was still at the loading dock Saturday night around 10 pm. Both ships had been running throughout the day.

Thank goodness my hubby and I saw it on Friday night - we had a pretty good view that was partly blocked so we planned to see it again on Saturday night... we were soo disappointed that we couldn't see it again with an unobstructed (is that even a word?) view, but grateful we saw what we could on Friday night.

World of Color doesn't compare to Fantasmic in my books - we saw WoC on Thur and Fantasmic on Friday and we were both blown away by F!

I was wondering what had happened!! Very frustrating, considering that we planned on seeing F! last night :sad1: The voice recording they played was something I had never heard before..."Due to unforeseen circumstances, the showings of Fantasmic! will not be performed tonight..." or something of the sort. Very, very frustrating when you have such a short trip :confused3

Just hope they have it fixed by June!

Went to WDW last year and saw their version of Fantasmic and it jus isn't the show without the full size MT and Columbia!

There was no Fantasmic! today either. An announcement was made around 7(?) that Fantasmic! would not be seen.

I did not attempt to ride Columbia or Mark Twain today so I don't know if they were up or not, but I heard from someone else that they were not. (That part is 2nd hand information.)

I was told by a CM in-the-know that there was an issue with the track that caused the Fantasmic! cancellation.

I thought that Fantasmic can be performed without the ships. Maybe it takes some time to plan this change?

I know they can without the Mark Twain, but I guess the Columbia down and out was the last straw. There have been divers in the water today and yesterday.

Disney has certainly been less than forthcoming lately  (see: Critter Country), so I'm not surprised that I can't find any official word about what happened.

The latest in unofficial news is that no problem was discovered with the track, but with the Columbia itself.

It seems that Fantasmic! shows may be canceled this weekend.

It was for sure the Mark Twain...Here are pictures of them working on it on Sunday...It was actually pretty cool to see a scuba diver. It must be the track, because you could see the diver swimming on the track line, you could see the air bubbles!!!

Amen, sister! Over the years we have figured out comfortable places to view Fantasmic! and are disappointed when the weather keeps Peter pan and Capn Hook from 'flying', but it is without question the only Not-to-be-missed attraction in DR. WOC just ain't got the chops. Totally not worth the time waiting while standing, even with a fastpass! The best part of our WOC experience last November was the conversation with guests waiting around us.

They were crawling under the Columbia Monday morning to fix the rail within it. I was talking to the CM's down there because of the crawfish that were attacking them. This guy is talking to the lucky man who got to crawl under the ship

I don't know how well you can see them, they were nasty little critters. The guy who crawled under the ship was throwing them out.

Yes, I know. :offtopic:

Couldn't they trap those little pinchy guys and boil them up to serve fresh at the Cafe Orleans for me?

there would have to be a LOT of them to do that--they're pretty small!

:rotfl: They were mean! I'm sure they'd let you go down and grab some, they didn't seem to be appreciated much. It's another one of those "how'd it get there" of Disneyland, though.
