I am considering an add-on. I just have a couple of questions.

If I purchase VB points and make a reservation at VB at the 8 - 12 month mark with VB points, can I turn around at the 7 month mark and use some or all of my SSR points for that vacation? I'm assuming doing so would require a cancellation/rebooking through MS, which would then place others on a wait list ahead of me for that reservation.

Also, for anyone with VB experience, is it hard to book a July vacation with non-VB points at the 7 month mark? :confused3 We would always be booking a 1 or 2-BR unit. I'd love a beach cottage, but my add-on wouldn't be enough to cover one, and I'm sure those are gone well before the 7 month mark.

We will probably switch off a WDW vacation with a beach vacation, and I'm trying to evaluate whether I'd be better off adding on at an Orlando resort or just purchasing points at VB to give me a home resort booking advantage.

Thanks! :flower3:

Yes, this is correct, except I'm sure you meant "8-11 month mark". No one can make DVC reservations until the 11 month window opens.

I don't recall any reports of members being unable to book summer at VB at the 7 month mark. Of course, the week of July 4 may be an exception and you'll want to call as soon as your 7 month window opens.

Since you are already a member, and it's 5-6 months to July, why not give MS a call today and just see what availability is for this July? If a 2 bedroom is still available, that may help you decide. If you get one of the more experienced CMs, she/he may be able to give you some insight as well.

Thanks for the response, CarolMN. I actually did call MS 3 weeks ago and am on a waitlist for VB for a 1-BR for the last two weeks of July. Of the two weeks I wanted, I could only reserve 3 days, so I waitlisted the other days day by day. I also requested a full reservation at HH, hoping that either HH or VB comes through. MS made a note that if the HH ressie comes through in its entirety, then they will cancel both the VB ressie and wailist request.

That's honestly why I started thinking about VB points. We were thinking about an add-on anyway, but my original plans was to add on at my home resort (SSR).

Again, thanks so much for the info! :flower3:

My question is that if you book 11 months in advance and then switch to SSR points at 7 months, what's the likelihood that you'd lose the ressie to a waitlister for that time frame? Does the waitlist come into play the second the reservation is cancelled, or is there a delay giving you time to cancel and rebook using your SSR points? :confused3

If there is a waitlist for your specific ressie, chances are you will loose yours. It wouldn't make sense to be able to switch your non VB points to VB. That wouldn't be fair to those whom own VB as their home resort.

Now if those dates you currently have reserved are available at 7 mos., there would be no problem switching your points.
