Possible late flight home

We are going to the Poly later July for 3 nights, ending our Beach trip. As of now we are flying home early Sat Am @ 11:30. So we would be picked up around 8:30 AM.

We only have a (1) day park ticket for MK.

I'm debating to just stay 2 nights, Thursday and Friday, so we have an extra day at the beach before. If I change to this, we would fly home on a flight that leaves at 9:30 Pm, so we will be picked up at 630PM.

We will have to be checked out of our room, I'm hoping we can get a later check out but I imagine that would be no later than 1. My question is, do you ever do this? We will not have a park ticket so we would swim in the am, then maybe go to DTD eat lunch there and shop. I know it will be so hot, so we will not want to do anything else outside. I know we can use the pool all day but I think that is a pain for clean up with no room. We also would need to keep our luggage stored. What would you do??

We always do this. I always fly out on the latest flight for that day. It's never been inconvenient to us. We usually have a park ticket for the day though one year we did do DS (then DTD) instead.
There are changing rooms with showers near the pool at Poly.
Just let bell services keep your carry on bags. The others can go on to the airport if you do RAC

Not sure what RAC is but we will have all of our luggage. We will be taking Magical Express
Thanks for the input.

I would definitely do the late flight if you're wanting to save the money on the extra hotel night. My last trip I had a scheduled 4:35pm departure on MDE (Actually missed it by 30 seconds and left on the 5:05pm) and had spent the day at AK. Leaving at 6:30pm would have made that even easier.

RAC is resort automatic check in. They will check your bags for you at the resort starting at like 5am until a certain time in the morning (I think 11am when check out ends.) I did it last time and it was great not having to do it at the airport. The paper boarding passes they print out for you while cool looking with Mickey on them don't actually work for the TSA ticket scanners.

What airline do you fly on? They sure work for Southwest. That's all we ever use. Never had a problem with them.
RAC is from 5 AM till 1 PM

OP, it is where you check your bags for a flight home, provided you are using a participating airline.
They are staffed by actually baggage agents and is the same thing as curbside check in at the airport.
You can arrange to pay your bag fees prior to check out, if you have any.
Call bell services to bring your bags to RAC counter, check them in and you'll next see them at the baggage carousel at your home airport.

RAC is Resort Airline Check-in. This is a great way to get your luggage checked in without having to lug it to the airport. I've never had trouble with the boarding passes they print out. Here is the info:

We've done a late flight before and I'm not the biggest fan, but if you are ok with not having a room for about 4 or 5 hours, go for it! We've been able to get late check-out as late as 2 pm at some of the resorts. It's really going to depend on how full the resort is. If you think you might be too hot walking around DS, you could also check out the hotel on the monorail or head over to Ft. W. We like to go over there to see the horses, play on the playground and eat at Trail's End. It's very relaxing!

My ticket was with Southwest. The TSA agent said the tickets printed out at the resort don't scan (With the barcodes like phone apps) and they have to manually check off the info (like you printed off the boarding pass at the airport)

Once I was at the gate I just used my phone to board.

Strange. We've never had a problem in all our flights.

I wonder if the RAC counter was having problems with their printer that day?

We did this last June as well as December and it worked out great both times. On our checkout day, we just left our carry on bags with bell services, and our checked bags with DME and headed out to the park. We had no issue with not having a room to go back to and we had two great fun last days. In June we flew US Air and we were able to check in at the hotel, but December we flew Frontier and had to check in at MCO and had no issues either time. Both times we spent the day in the park, but I think an afternoon at DTD sounds fun too! It's definitely doable. Before June, we had always left very early but now very late will definitely be "our thing!" It took some of the sadness of the last day away, and we weren't cranky from getting up at 4am to get DME to the airport!

Thanks everyone. I just changed our flight to the later flight. I need to call Disney later today to drop the first night! Hoping that day we can get a later check out that would help!
