(Poss. debate!)Does anyone think ANY of the politicians are even remotely honest...

Lord knows we can believe everything said on the internet, right M13?;) You have my vote!

Marjie J,
I have heard that this book is coming out. (Drudge Report has touted it, though I hate getting information from the Drudge Report.) I have also been around long enough, though, to know that just because a book -- or movie -- is out doesn't make it so. Kerry's military service seems to be pretty well-documented as does the fact that he really angered some people when he became an anti-war activist after the war. To claim that he (or those who served with him) lied about his service seems strange when his service seems so well-documented.

Still, I am wondering what Kerry has done in the Senate that makes him dishonest.

Hi JW, didn't know if your question was directed at me. JK is probably as honest and sincere as any. I was not focussing on any particular candidate. I believe that the whole nature of politics is to try to convince the most people that you are going to be what they want you to be. My whole premise might be wrong, but I don't believe so.

So many arguments on here recently and so many fervent people make me believe that I am correct. It all seems based on hoopla, and emotion.

No one is going to stop abortions, the war is not going to go away for quite awhile, capitol punishment, ecology whatever. At best whoever gets in will hopefully not screw things up too bad.

I trust George W. Bush, John McCain, Al Sharpton, Ralph Nader, Howard Dean, Alan Keyes, and Pat Buchanan. I think they are the most honorable men on the national level.

Alan Keyes is a good honest man. He would get my vote for pres.

Not directed at anyone in particular. I just am so tired of cynicism in general, and so much of that cynicism has been fomented by the current administration (and the one before it -- not by words but by actions, of course). So there you have it, I criticize both a Republican and a Democratic administration and so hope that a new Democratic administration might do better. Cynicism just hasn't really gotten us anywhere, I'm afraid, but I realize that blind faith won't either. I'm willing to listen, but I, like you require honesty. So far, I haven't seen any dishonesty from the Kerry camp. (I have seen much dishonesty from others trying to blame Kerry for dishonesty, but I have not seen proof. See the above post casting dispersion upon Kerry's well-documented military career.)

As for honest politicians, strangely enough, though I am, obviously, an Democrat, right now one of the most honest politicians I am familiar with is Bob Riley, the Republican governor of our state, Alabama. He has taken some very brave steps to reform our state (not always well-received, I might add), and I intend to vote for him when he is up for re-election.

Jimmy Carter was / is also an extraordinarily honest man. I will be the first to say that he was probably not the best president, but isn't it sad that such a bright, honest, good man will not be remembered as a great president?

Julie

You know, I agree about JC, and I suspect that Ralph Nader is a pretty honest guy!

I cannot blame my cynicism on the current admin, though. It goes back to being really for Clinton in the first election, and then being hit with the reality that politicians say what people want to hear.

I am an optimist by nature, and this is driving me nuts!

I think Jimmy Carter is a good, kind-hearted, honest man. Of course, honesty does not a good leader make.
