well deserving public servants? With some local exceptions I say not a one of them. I do not believe that someone can arrive at that high of a station without being corrupt in some manner.

So, am I crazy?

No, you are not crazy. I think all politicians are self-sefving first.

I always feel like I'm picking the lesser of 2 evils when I vote.

I think none of them are honest. I look at all politicians as used car salesmen. they want your money and your vote, they will lie to your face to get your vote, then turn around and serve tehmselves as soon as the vote is over.

I trust George W. Bush, John McCain, Al Sharpton, Ralph Nader, Howard Dean, Alan Keyes, and Pat Buchanan. I think they are the most honorable men on the national level.

I think that Ralph Nader is honest and I believe that Jimmy Carter was and that was part of the reason he had so much trouble. Other than that it's a hard call. I'm not even totally sure about the guys I like and support.

I vote every election, and am not even sure I am voting for the lesser of evils!

I am honestly curious as to whether you are basing your opinion, Joe, on facts or emotion?

This year I do feel like I'm voting for the lesser of 2 evils and I have no idea at this time who that is. YEP I feel the majority of politicians lie to get what they want...elected. To those of you that place these people on a pedistal...why? They are out for one thing and one thing only...and if you think it is because they love their country...WHY? I love my country but I certainly don't love or think the politicans that run it or will run it in the future are out for more then their own glory.

In Wisconsin Russ Feingold is up for re-election.

A car dealership owner and someone I graduated with is going to the primary in Sept. to run against Feingold.

I can't believe the commercial that is being used by my fellow graduate. I went to school with him for 12 years.

He is trying to make it look like he was in combat during his stint in the Army. His commercial is "he knows what it is like in combat and knows how they feel in Iraq." Please, he was an honor guard for President Reagon and Bush, then he was a recruiter in Hawaii. I can't believe no one did a back ground check on him.

That's the thing! I still feel like a cynic this morning, so it must not be jet lag!

let me answer you a different way. i think many public servants are slightly more honest than most non-public servants.

yes, i do think there are public servants that i consider "honest." however, we are all human after all, and by expecting any human to be perfect, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment. i think many politicians really do care about their jobs and their representatives.

CC, I think that many start out wanting to do great things, but they soon find out they need to sell out to stay in the race. BTW, only meant politicians, not the rest of the folks who work for the government!

I guess I wouldn't make much of a dem this year since I do not feel optomistic at all about the situation!;)

i guess i just don't see it as that black and white. i mean, yeah, everyone has to "sell out" sometimes, but the degrees of selling out vary. and i think in a lot of cases, the ends justify the means. a lot of people "sell out" AND do great things.

:sunny:

NO!!!!

I don't think that many of them have an honest bone in their body...

Just out of curiosity, and I'm really not trying to pick a fight, I'm REALLY curious, what dishonest thing has John Kerry done (or said)?

He did, indeed, change his mind on his support for the Iraq War after he (and the rest of us) were told that the intelligence that led to the war was faulty. So I will state that I know of this, but I don't consider this to be dishonest. I, too, changed my mind on my support for the war at that time.

What other examples of dishonesty do you know of?

Julie

Check out Swift Vets . This doesn't look good for a "War Hero".

As for his Political history in Massachusetts, do some research into the Dukakis administration and taxes in particular.

I've only ever talked to one politician in person. Congressman Bleep belongs to my JCC. He goes to all of the charity events with his family. He seems warm, genuine and sincere. :D

What choice do we have anyway? Either reject the whole system and not vote at all, or trust to a certain extent and vote.:D

I agree. We know one politician. He is/was vilified by his opponents, but we know him to be honest and genuine. They are actually probably all MORE honest than their opposition says they are.

My business is in the same building as one of our congressmen. He can play a room with the best of them, and is very well liked. He does all the charities. It is his business to. He will then turn around when "the public" is gone and be as nasty as anyone you could imagine. Back stabbing, lying etc.

And never listen to the competition! They all tell lies or exagerate the opponents negatives to appear more positive.

I do believe on a local level it is more possible to remain honest, sincere etc.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, regardless of profession. While it is true that policitians can be corrupt, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are.

I am going to run for President someday (no, really, I am!), and I hereby announce to my 70,000 DIS friends that I will be open and honest with all my positions.

I also announce that I will probably lose.
