I thought I'd start a post highlighting the positive experiences we may be having as our kids go back to school. What do you like about the year so far? How are your kids' teachers this year? Anyone doing any volunteering? Any cool field trips or projects? Post them here!!

My kids have been back almost two weeks and we're so far, having a great year. Their teachers all seem to be good fits for them. Communication hasn't been a problem and my kids enjoy going to school every day. other than the usual complaints about homework, or not enough time for lunch, we're heading into smooth sailing.
Benji made safetly patrol and Josh made President of the history club and they're both very excited.

I'm excited to meet my new Kdg. students. I'll have some from the Pre-K, so I'll be happy to see them as well. We have a new principal and he's really into the school, school spirit, the teachers and students, so I'm thinking it'll be a great year!

I don't know what we'll do for a fall field trip b/c we don't have a bus (or the finances for one) and the theatre we usually go to for plays is showing the same play they did last fall. We go w/the 1st and 2nd graders and they've seen the play, so there's no sense in going again. But, I do have some great apple projects and a few cute "Wemberly" and "The Kissing Hand" projects for the first week!

My DS is going into 4th grade ... and up to the 2nd floor ... which means he's w/the "upper classmen" and is not a little boy anymore. He's v. excited to be on the "upper level" and I'm thrilled that he's excited.

I'm really happy with my kids teachers this year, they seem to be perfect matches to each of them. We just started on Monday, but so far there's been awesome communication, plenty of opportunities to volunteer, and even the PTA is more welcoming and open to everyone's ideas this year. So far so good!

DD has been back in school for 4 days. She loves it. She comes home excited, telling about her day and gets up each morning much easier than she did over summer vacation.
I volunteered for the fall party to run some of the game stations and bring treats.
I will be on maternity leave in February otherwise, I would have probably signed up for the Valentine Day party too.
A great start to the year!

DD has been back in school 2 weeks now. No homework complaints yet, she gets right on it. Her teacher seems to be no nonsense and on the strick side of things, but DD loves her. This is our first year with a happy kid, so that makes me happy.

DS10 seems happy with his teacher.

This year, Gordon, does safety patrol and the morning annoucements for the school.

His teacher and him like the same football team, so that helps.

I am still a little unsure if I like the teacher, but he does, and that's what matters. :thumbsup2

I'm very optimistic. Last night was BTS night for DS. He's entering 9th grade (high school :faint: :worried: :sad1: :yay:  ) on Monday.

It was a pleasure and a relief to meet all his teachers last night. Nobody really seemed burned out and they were very clear in their expectations. DS seemed excited and eager to find his way around.

So far so good. :thumbsup2

No academic worries for DD. She's a low-maintenance high achiever and is so excited she has unpacked her bookbag many times a day since we bought her supplies. All the friends are calling and they're looking forward to reuniting. So far so good for her, too. But, it's 7th grade and she's a girl. I pray for minimal drama and heartbreak.

We haven't started school yet but the we had an orientation night for the twins last week and met most of their teachers. They seem great, especially their reading/English teacher. DS14 has his 9th grade orientation on Tuesday so we will meet his teachers then. The kids are nervous because they are all starting new schools in our new town. The twins know a couple kids in their classes from some of the things they have done over the summer so that will help. DS14 is in marching band and has 175 new friends already so he will be ok.

We love school this year!! Even with how busy marching band keeps the parents we are all thrilled to be in HS and last year of Elementary school. :dance3:

New teachers, new challenges....and mom is in the last year of a commitment to PTO!!

My DD also moved into high school this year. She started back 7 August, and is doing well so far. I've communicated with her teachers via email a couple of times and they've been very helpful. Her school has all grades available on line and it's a WONDERFUL thing! Let's me keep on top of problems early. So far, I've just said things like "Hmmm, I notice you got a 10% on that paragraph you wrote in English. Maybe you should talk to Ms. Hall and see what you didn't do that she wanted you to do." And poof, problem is GONE. She came home with the answer "I didn't have enough detail, and she expected xyz sentences."

My son's teachers have also been very proactive. He's having some problems, and they are all very good about working with me to get to the bottom of them.

I LOVE online gradebooks!!! We have had them for the past couple years and with a less then responsible student, DS14, it is a great way to stay on top of things.

We don't start until Monday, but my 1st grader got to meet his teacher today and we're very happy to have her. My older two kids had her for kindergarten, so we know her and I know that she's a good teacher. We don't have a clue who the older kids have for middle school and high school, but hopefully they'll have good experiences.

MY DD 6 (almost 7) just completed her first week of school. She is really excited and gungho. I'm not as excited and wonder about her teacher some days. She is going to the ARVS. It's a virtual school and I'm the one doing all the teaching. We did pre-k at home and had lots of fun. I'm just looking at the curriculum and wondering if I'm over my head. But DD is happy so I'll keep at it. And it is only week 1 and soon we will have a schedule and plan happening.
