each of these hotels has its ups and downs, according to what i have seen online (trip advisor, here, other sites). portofino is farther but looks nicer online, though it gets horrible reviews. park vue is closer and looks run down online and gets mixed reviews that mostly brag about the location. i hear there are renovations going on at park vue, are they renovating the rooms or just the lobby? how long is the walk from the portofino, really? and are either one horrible? or really awesome and under-appreciated?

fwiw the reasons i am considering each is that they have bunk beds *and* are in walking distance *and* have availability for when we will be there.

This will be my fourth trip to anaheim from australia, The first time i stayed at the fairfield inn (was the ramada at the time ) the second time we stayed at a place called the convention centre inn also had a name change, then at super 8 on katella. This time we are staying at the park vue inn. The only reason is location,we promised ourselves next time we visited we would only stay on the cross walk.. Oh and the bunk beds for the kids are a plus but the walk was our only real concern. I would choose the short walk but thats me.

I've stayed at the Portofino and only read reviews on the Park Vue. Based on that, I'd pick the Park Vue if I had to choose between the two. You just can't pass up the convenience of the walking distance. It's such a time saver. The Portofino was nothing to write home about. Looks much better on the site than it does in person.

We've never stayed at portofino only park vue inn. We had a bunkbed room. The room was clean and the maids did a good job cleaning it each morning, it was just an awfully small room. Since there wasn't a closet, we just had to place our lugages around the room where there was space. I loved having a king bed w/ the bunkbed but there was only room on each side fo the king bed for a nightstand. We just felt really cramped and we're a family of 4. If we stay there again, I'd probably book a 2 queen room since they looked a lot roomier. If you plan on staying at park vue, use the code "dreams". I think it takes about $3 off a night.

I have never stayed at the Portofino, but I do know the area very well. The street that the Portifino is on is very well travelled. So, you need to be very careful crossing it to get onto Disney Way. There was an accident there a few years ago, the ppl that were hit were in the crosswalk. The walk down Disney Way runs along the side of DCA, so you can enter into The Grand California to cut across to get to the DTD area, which gets you closer to the Main Gate. It is a long walk.
I have stayed at the Park Vue many times. The walk is the closest. Even compared to the DLR hotels. You just can't beat the location. As for the rooms. They are always clean. Most of this establishment has been renovated, so the condition of the rooms are very nice. Room sizes do vary. I have had a room that was quite small, but it did work out. And I have had rooms there that had more space than we needed.
They also provide a continental breakfast. There is usually some kind of fresh fruit, apples, oranges or bananas. Cold cereal, and instant oatmeal. Milk, juice and coffee. They usually have donuts as well. I believe they have yogurt for sale, but don't hold me to that one.
Also, one of the things about the Park Vue, they do not charge you for every little thing like other hotels on Harbor do. If you need a razor, or even a internet flight check in they will do it with a smile and not an extra charge. That is something else I forgot to mention. The staff at the PV are always very friendly.:tink:

thank you all for the advice. i think ill stick with the park vue, for the proximity to the parks. :D

La Quinta has bunk beds but it's about 2 blocks away. Heated pool. Decent rooms. Breakfast was ok, not great.
