I am torn between the Anabella hotel or Portofino. We have stayed at Anabella in the past, but the rooms were run down. My kids want the kids suite at Portofino. Reviews are not great at either place. Any comments regarding either place?

The first hotel we stayed at on our 1st trip with kids was portofino thankfully it was only for one night. It was terrible the bed was super hard and uncomfortable I wouldn't recommend it

We stayed at the Anabella Dec 2010 post re-model and loved it..the beds were supurb, the staff was wonderful and we would go there with our 6 year old son many times again. *We stayed in the Mission Suite.

(we had never stayed there pre remodel so I cannot do a comparison for you)

I would recommend the Anabella now with no regrets to anyone that asked.

oh no! We are staying at the portofino this summer!! I hope it's improved since jescal75's last visit! We are going for 5nights

I stayed at Anabella in late '07 and in late March, and it was very nice. Stayed on the first floor both times (hardwood floors!). Second time we were in "club" level.

I would stay there again, most definitely. Kind employees, pretty grounds, not much to dislike!

(though I didn't much like the breakfast at Tangerine...but...full disclosure would mean I should tell you that in the middle of the night on what was supposed to be our only night there in March, my son developed a stomach flu out of a sound sleep, and that pretty much ruined my wish for food. Got to stay an extra night, housekeeping had to bring extra sheets and blankets at 2am, housekeeping-proper had to do a big clean on the room while we went out for foods-I-hoped-my-son-could-keep-down at Trader Joes, etc...so it's not the biggest surprise that their breakfast wasn't something I really really wanted, especially since I had to grab it to go!)

We have stayed at the Annabella before and loved it. The room was beautiful, thick carpet, granite bathroom, wonderful bed. I also like it because it is on Katella Avenue so not as many people at all hours and an easy walk to the Grand Californian and the parks. The only thing is that we like to eat at Mimi's Cafe up by the Howard Johnson so after a long day, it was a cab ride back to the hotel. We are taking a DCL cruise in September with a 5 day stay at the Grand Californian after but am starting to re-think it, save $1300 and stay at the Annabella.

We were at the Portofino, and we enjoyed it. The only thing is that the immediate pool is super tiny, but at the time we went, there was hardly anyone in it. The room was decent though. :)
