Portofino and Pet Policies

This is our first stay at Portofino (actually at any of the Universal Resorts) and I am still a little concerned about the Pet policy. My husband is allergic to most pets (he loves them and would pet them). However, it only takes a few minutes before he starts to feel the effects.

Anyways, I booked a Club Level room at the Portofino since it says on their website that there are no pet friendly rooms on Club rooms. Is there anything else I can do or request in order to increase my chances of getting a room away from the pet rooms. This will be our first time staying in a hotel that allows pets (yes, I know, what are the odds...I guess pretty good since we try to avoid hotels that allow pets. However, we want to stay onsite so this is what we had to do.)

Also, what are their policies for keeping pets away from other guests? Are there designated areas for pets to go or are they allowed in common areas?

How strict are they with their policies and noise issues?

Any suggestions and info would be very much appreciated. Thanks!:)

I know that with us when we bring our little yorkie we are designated to a certain floor area. That was the case at HRH and RPR, not sure about PB but probably the same. I have to say also that both myself AND and DH have extreme pet allergies to the point of asthma. (Which is why we have a yorkie bc she has hair and doesn't bother us). We NEVER have had a problem in either HRH or RPR resorts. I would assume it is the same. Let them know when you book that you allergies and are concerned.

Thanks for the suggestions. :thumbsup2

My husband is actually allergic to hypoallergenic types as well.:confused3 We visit family who have a hypoallergenic dog and my husband starts to feel a reaction in about 5-6 hours. But with other dogs (and all cats), it's almost instantly.

I'm just hoping he'll be fine during our vacation. I will definitely call and ask them to add a note about my husband's allergies.

Is there a certain area that I should ask to be away from? ie. Are all the pet rooms on the first floor etc?

My DD is highly allergic to cats and dogs. We have stayed at PBH with no issues. I always ask for a room on an upper floor. I *think* the pet friendly rooms are on the first floor so that the animals can be ushered out thru the patio doors or down the hallways without entering the elevators. Someone else may have a more definitive answer but that was my impression. OH--and we did NOT stay club level.

At PBH there really is no club level. There is a club lounge. People from all over the hotel can have club privileges. Call the hotel and make sure your allergies are noted on your reservation and they will give you a room that is not reserved for pets.

when we stayed there several years ago we were on the 1st floor which had several dogs--I would request a higher floor:thumbsup2

My sister brings her little puppy and the smoking area and the pet area are in the same wing at RPH. We always ask to be in a different wing than the pet area so that way we don't have to worry messing with the little dogs at all.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and info. :thumbsup2

I will definitely contact PBH before we arrive and ask them to make a note of the allergies. I always request higher floor for all my hotel reservations...but I guess it's more important in this case to make sure I request it.

Will these two requests be sufficient to ensure we are not near the pet rooms?

That's basically why I'm asking because now they could put us anywhere. Since the club rooms are all Deluxe rooms and since the pet rooms are not Deluxe, I guess I'm guaranteed a non-pet room. But I was concerned that we'd be on the same floor or area as the pet rooms....So I'm definitely going to let them know about the allergies and requesting higher floor.

I had originally booked at the RPR and was a little less concerned since they do have the club floor. But we decided to go with Portofino since we prefer it and I was able to get the Club room for only a little bit more than RPR. And since the rooms are larger, we definitely did not hesistate.
