Has anyone ever bought one of those small portable black and white TVs? I think the screen is about 5 inches. I was thinking of getting one in case of power outages, but am not sure how well they work. Does anyone have any experience with using one?

I've seen one that has a radio (weather and AM/FM) plus a TV. It runs on electric, battery OR you wind it up and it charges the batteries. They aren't that expensive and would be nice to have in an emergency.

At this point, I wouldn't buy one anymore, at least not new. It will be very likely rendered useless on February 17, 2009, when NTSC broadcasts are discontinued in the United States.

My personal solution is a laptop computer with a ATSC tuner. Much more expensive, but I suspect that the closer we get to 2009, more affordable alternatives will start presenting themselves.

In the meantime, perhaps you can find a used one.

.

And a catastrophic event will occur on Feburary 18th.

Nah. I give people more credit than that.
