On the Disneyland website it says they have portable phone chargers for $30 that you can swap out as needed. Can you keep this for the length of your stay, or do you have to pay $30 for each day you use it?

The chargers are in a vending machine, you pay the fee when you take the first charger, then you can swap for a fully charged replacement every time you need one for the length of your trip. The chargers are not the best quality. For $30, I recommend buying a better quality charger before your trip, and charging it every night at your hotel.

Yes, this. We did it years ago, and have not regretted it since. It does make for a heavier backpack, but we usually store them in the locker. Since we go put stuff in there off and on all day, we just grab a fresh one on one of our drop offs. We caught a GREAT sale at Target that year, and so we got several (3 as I recall). Haven't regretted that decision one bit.

It helps if you get a rapid charger/cord. Nothing like that slooooooow charge to ruin your plans. Make sure it has a 2 amp or higher output, or you'll be charging at about the same rate that you're using your charge.

I bought a few portable chargers for my family of 8 this last trip in anticipation of phone drainage. Only my daughter, who has an older phone, ended up needing one while we were in the park.

The rest of us actually spent less time on our phones than usual 😂.

Everyone has good advice.

The portable chargers are yours to keep and there are also stations at some airports and other theme parks. Exchanges will either be free or nominal charge ($3 or so)

Please don't buy one of these overpriced pieces of garbage.

Anker is the answer. You will pay half as much for a charger capable of fully charging your phone 2-3 times, and about 200% faster.

Maybe it’s time I upgrade to a better one but I’ve always had luck with the fuel rods (these are the ones available around the parks).
Even if you don’t swap them out, the fuel rods can be recharged as well

100% agree with the Anker recs. We have the Anker PowerCore 10000 and it can charge my phone multiple times (I usually plug it in around 30 or 40% and can do this 4+ times before needed to recharge the Anker), and it charges phones very quickly.

This is the one we all have as well. These things last FOREVER too. Mine is like 4 years old at this point. I use it a lot.

+1 for Anker. I get the cylinder shaped one. Its not a crazy high MaH but very easy to pocket it in cargo pants and will do at least 1.5 charges ….

I seldom need a charger at home, so I bought a fuel rod in the parks maybe 3-4 years ago. I have always been happy with it because it's very easy to pick up a recharged rod whenever I want while at the parks. I can do it several times a day if I wanted to. For me, the $30 was money well spent.

I've had mine for a few years too and it's just easier, esp for wdw. It's one less thing I need to worry about charging when I'm in the room. I have an anker for other trips and it's great but weighs more than the fuel rod.

We use the chargers from Disneyland-- Fuel Rods. $30 is steep, but you can buy them on Amazon as well for less. They are 2 for $35 on Amazon. You can change out the Fuel Rods as often as you need/want, and there's more Fuel Rod dispensers at other places, though not all dispensers are free exchanges. I think the exchange stations at Long Beach Airport (LGB) are around $2. They are free exchanges at Disneyland, so I always grab a fresh one on my way out at the end of my trip so that I will have a fresh one at the airport to keep me charged through my flights. You could literally exchange the Fuel Rods every hour at DLR without incurring additional costs.

I know there's better/faster chargers out there, but I really like the convenience of the Fuel Rods. And it doesn't matter if I forget to charge it overnight like I would need to do with other chargers. Whenever it runs out of charge, I just hop over to the nearest dispenser and get a new one. When I was using one I got from Amazon (not a Fuel Rod), I was terrible at remembering to charge it at night when I got back to the hotel.
