Portable DVD Player On Airplane Question - UPDATED

First of all - it is too loud on a plane to hear the DVD player when it is on very low volume - so don't plan on that. For both my kids - I just told them the options were to put on the headphones OR to just watch and not listen (I made it seem as if the volume only worked thru the headphones not without them). This worked fine - even with my VERY PICKY dd, no problems at all. And, even the picture of the video keeps them distracted - so no biggie if he won't wear them.

we have used our portable dvd player 3 times and never used headphones for our DD who is now 2.5 I turned the volume down low enough so I could barely hear it sitting next to her. No one ever said a word to us about it. I plan to do the same thing when we fly again next week.

My granddaughter is 2 wears earbuds with her Disney MP3 player. Although the earbuds don't really stay in her ears very well, she has learned to hold the earbuds in herself if she wants to hear the music. As far as the plane ride it all depends on who is sitting around you. The last time we fly we had a bunch of kids sitting around us, we have grandkids so the noise didn't bother us.

Just because nobody complained dosen't mean you were not bothering anyone. I suffered through way to many episodes of Dora on my last flight (sans kids) but didn't have the heart to interfere. Other passengers may not be as accomodating. Please consider using headphones, there have been a few great suggestions on kid friendly headphones.

If the passengers around you complain you will be asked to use headphones or turn it down/off. At that point if you don't have headphones your out of luck - as is your daughter.

Just bumping so people can see my update in the first post!

Glad you found them :)

I also wanted to mention that you can buy a "splitter" so that more than one person can use headphones at the same time, they aren't expensive. A few posters mentioned multiple kids watching.

I have two dd's and the splitter is a lifesaver when they both want to watch the DVD player or listen to the same ipod.
