Are you able to play portable DVD on the airplane? Is there a certain outlet for play? We are flying SWA. By the way our portable DVD is a Audiovox BP3800 model.

Yes, you may play your portable DVD player on board when the FA gives you the all clear when you hit cruising altitude.

There are no outlets to plug it in at your seat, so you will have to bring your battery.

We are taking ours next week!

You should have no problem - a number of airlines actually issue them to passengers in seats with no view of a movie screen on some filghts - I had a digital video player on an Edinburgh - NYC flight once.

I've used my portable DVD on a number of flights with no problems.

We take ours all the time. You need to take your battery--no place to plug it in. We've even charged it at the airport while waiting for connecting flights--they have outlets around the seating areas. You do have to wait for the pilot to give the all clear for electronic devices though--not a big deal--about 10 minutes once you're in the air.

I have used my portable DVD player several times when I was on a plane. I just made sure I had a fully charged battery as there is no where to plug it in.

You can use your DVD/laptop on the plane when the flight attendant gives you the OK. I have used my laptop to play DVD's before with no problem. Make sure that you have enough batteries for the flight.

If you decide to use it on the plane, be sure to get the kind of headphones with that go in your ear. The plane is very loud and it is difficult to hear your movie with regular headphones on.

Have fun!

Yes, DVD players may be used on any flights.

A few reminders... First off, it would be a good idea, if you don't have one, to get a case for the player. When you are boarding the SWA flight and getting seated you have to either place the carry-on in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. You won't be allowed to hold it, per FAA regulations. If it is in its case, it will be easier to place under your seat for easy access once the jet reaches 10K feet and you may use electronic equipment. Also, be sure that, if sitting with others, to get there to the airport as early as you can or get your boarding pass online since you want to make sure you get an "A" boarding pass. Also, sound cancelling headphones would be a good investment since a jet cabin can get rather noisy. Also, remember, they prepare for landing with about 10-15 to go in the flight. At that time, they will make you turn off all eletronic devices and stow them for landing.

Just food for thought on the DVD's: Remember that others (children) on the flight can see what you are watching. I was on a flight once and a teenager that was flying alone was looking over the aisle to watch a movie that a man was playing and it was something that maybe his parents would not have wanted him to see. I always have to remind my husband to be careful with what he takes or watches just in case there are children seated around him. Not preaching but I think it would be bad for a 5 yo to see jeepers creepers or something like that.

LMC, thanks for the insight...but, I was only intended to bring a few G rated movies just to keep the kids entertained. Thanks again!

I'm not being argumentative here, just pointing out something - but a lot of the airlines from the UK show films on the big screens that are far from suitable for kids. Also, the viewing angle of portable DVD players tends to be so limited that unless you are fairly directly infront of the player, it's virtually impossible to see what's going on in the film.
