Planning our November 2017 trip with extended family. My parents were going to do a grandparent date night with Cirque du Soleil 6pm show followed by dinner at Portabello 815pm. They LOVE traditional Italian food (think spaghetti and meatballs). But now on the Disney Website, it is listing Portabello as "closed for refurbishment" and won't let me make a future ADR. Does anyone have any insight into if Portabello is closing for good? Or other speculation? Alternatively, are there any reasonable "Disney Springs Alternatives" that would be good dining options for my parents after the 6pm Cirque du Soleil show??show?? upload_2017-4-24_16-46-36.png

Not positive on Portobello, I thought that I read that it was getting a lengthy refurb. But there are so many good restaurants in DS now they shouldn't have any trouble finding something that they like, I would suggest Homecoming as it is getting very good reviews and seems reasonably priced.

The Disney website says it is closed for refurbishment. It is announced to be closed for refurbishment. Why would you think it is closing for good?? The announcement says through September, but apparently they won't let you book in November yet.
What other type of cuisine do they like?

The funny thing is I called and spoke to a manager there a few months ago and the refurb was supposed to have been over the winter 2016 and only be for a month. Obviously things are quite different with the plans

Probably no on the traditional Italian. Perhaps . . . I dunno, maybe Il Mulino at Swan & Dolphin? Otherwise seems that non-Italian would be the options. Probably Boathouse if the cost is palatable. House of Blues isn't bad and much less expensive.

On edit, Wine Bar Georges, opening "late 2017" in Disney Springs, sounds Italian (or French?).

Portobello posted today on social media that it would reopen in "early fall 2017" with a family style Italian concept but of course there can always be construction delays. I'd suggest following them for updates.

For alternatives, Boathouse and Homecomin' are delicious or I've heard good things about the new Paddlefish. I like Raglan Road as well but it can be very loud. Maybe they could look at the menus and pick a backup in case Portobello hasn't reopened yet.

Is this the same restaurant as "Trattoria al Forno" that JUST introduced the character breakfast? Was going to book at my 180 mark tomorrow! Ugh... Why start something new just to close?

Not the same restaurant. Trattoria al Forno is located at the Boardwalk. The OP is talking about Portobello in Disney Springs that is closed for refurb.

Portabello is nothing special. I'd pick Blues or even Planet Hollywood over them. Just sayin

Without knowing their other tastes, its hard to recommend another restaurant. Unfortunately there are no other Italian restaurants in DS.

Thanks everyone.
They like also basic American food -- they are not exotic eaters. Meat and potatoes. Burgers, sandwiches, pasta. Nothing "exotic" like Mexican food or sushi.
So maybe try I'll book planet Hollywood or house of blues as a backup and get portabello if they re open in time
