Port Upgrade from VGT?

Has anyone ever done this? How is the difference in cost you have to pay decided?

The upgrade is calculated from the lowest verandah category (category 6?) regardless of what stateroom you were assigned for the VGT.

Good info from @lanejudy. I'd just add that there is some mystical formula that is used at the port for determining the upgrade price. I've done it a couple of times and they had a little printed out spreadsheet that the CM referred to when quoting the cost.
