Port Parking in Galveston- Have You Parked In it?

We're booked for the 1/13 Wonder out of Galveston, and we're wondering where the cruise parking is located? I received an email from DCL that talks about parking:

https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/...s-parking/?CMP=EMC-DCLFY16Q1FY16DCLPAEMS0133G

This lists adjacent parking & to me that would mean similar to Port Canaveral where you can walk over. No where on this site though gives you a link or tell you how to prepay as it states there's a $5 discount to book early & that there's handicap accessible parking.

So I contacted my DU agent & provided the link to the webpage above, she replied that you can not prepay & we'd have to wait until we got there. I reminded her to look at the link I sent her & her reply was that I guess we can book early with this link provided:

http://www.portofgalveston.com/91/Cruise-Parking

Once I start reading the links it states we have to take a shuttle to the port? This to me is not adjacent parking & is really a stretch of the word adjacent if a shuttle has to be involved. I do get that every port is different & they all won't be like Port Canaveral, it's just all that I know.

So my question is since my DU agent didn't even know you could prebook parking, is the link she provided for the same parking garage that Disney talks about on their webpage? I know at Port Canaveral there are tons of other places to park that involve shuttles. I want to avoid shuttles as much as possible as my FIL will be in a wheelchair.

Thank you!

If it's the address DCL gave, then it's about a 15 minute walk, .08 miles, so not desirable for a group with a wheelchair.

If it's actually Port of Galveston Cruise Terminal then it is adjacent and just requires crossing the street
Looking at google street view however, it appears to not be an area you want to walk across the street in (it might not even be possible) and better off taking a shuttle if provided

The address on the DCL website is for the port terminal itself, it does not list the parking lot address on DCL website. Hence my confusion on confirming if it's the same parking lot.

Im going off the location given by Port Galveston for where the lot is, corner of 33rd and Harborside Drive
However, the port does offer Valet Parking at the entrance to the terminal for $20 a day, it is a splurge but it is a piece of convenience

It is adjacent and is the closest parking to the port. There isn't a garage, so it's a giant large surface lot. We have parked there twice. Each time, they guide you to where to park and there is a shuttle right there, and we were able to walk onto a shuttle with no waiting when we departed. I have always prepaid online in advance. If you do that, you will need to bring a printed copy of your reservation with you because you sign it and give it to them when you enter. Exiting is a breeze and there are no gates or booths to deal with.

Thanks for your reply! So this would be easy to navigate with someone in a wheelchair?

Thanks for your reply, I did see the valet parking so it is something to think about.

I have a son in a wheelchair and it is very convenient to drop your family and luggage off at the port and drive less than 5 minutes to parking lot A (make sure you book A)and catch a shuttle yourself. There are benches in front of the terminal for your family to wait for you and the porters will take your luggage from the curb. Easy Peasy... FYI... we just got off the Wonder on the 30th and 11 cars were broken into in the long term parking at the Hilton.

Thank you! So you can go back in after returning from the cruise to pick someone up in a wheelchair?

I'm so glad that we pre-paid and parked at the port's own parking lot. With the weather delay that happened on the December 23rd sailing, I feel like it would have been too stressful and uncertain to deal with a third-party parking facility. It was chaotic and stressful enough as it was. It did take them some time to open the lot for cars after the port opened for passengers embarking that day. But at least we knew they would guarantee a parking space for us and that there were shuttles and police to help manage the traffic and crowds. I actually just dropped off our party at the terminal and drove from there to the lot. I opted to walk from the lot to the terminal instead of waiting for a shuttle. It's a fairly short walk. After the cruise, our whole party just walked with our luggage to the lot. But I also could have walked or taken the shuttle to the lot and gone back around with our vehicle to pick up our party and luggage at the terminal.

Also, we didn't pre-pay for the parking until just the night before. I actually printed it out from the computer at the hotel we stayed at the night before in Houston. I suspect we might have been eligible for the $5-discount even up to the same day as the cruise, as long as we had paid and printed out the paper before arriving at the port.

We were getting off on the 23rd. I didn't envy the chaos we saw when we left. Thankfully we were second in line for express walk off. Waiting for luggage took forever.

We used EZ also. My husband dropped us off with a porter and he parked and walked back to meet us. If we ever go to Galveston again, we will use them again.
