I have been looking into staying at a Fort Wilderness cabin when we potentially visit in August. However, I am also interested in looking at other places to stay on Disney. This will be my children's first time there so I want to maximize the Disney experience. However, my budget is limited. So, has anyone stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside hotel with a family of five? A travel agent recommended it and I know nothing about it. Any thoughts on the hotel? Would it be worth it to stay here or would people suggest somewhere else? I need help because there is so much to choose from and I haven't stayed in Disney in about 15 years.

Port Orleans Riverside is a great place to stay with kids. Mine like the trundle bed. They fought over who got to sleep in it. Food court is great too. Nice pool.

We love POR, we have stayed there several times over the years. It is a very pretty resort, the grounds are beautifully landscaped. There are two sections, the bayou section is sort of rustic and cozy w/ very lush foliage. The mansion section is a bit more "formal". Both are very pretty and clean.
The pool was recently redone. I like the food court, good for a quick meal.
Hope this helps, enjoy your trip!

Port Orleans Riverside is a wonderful place to stay. Here are some pictures, including one of the trundle bed in the Alligator Bayou rooms. They do not have the trundle in the Mansion Home section.

We were just at PO-R in January. Nothing against the resort, we loved it. But when our 6 month DS is older we are going to book at ASSp or ASM. The theming at AS is great for kids, especially younger ones. If I was a little kid and had the choice I would choose any AS over PO-R. You might also want to consider PO-FQ. The resort is not so spread out like Riverside (we saw many kids at Riverside looking pooped just going with their parents to the food court). The pool, food court, and bus stops are all close to the front lobby with the majority of the buildings as well.

We have stayed at POR several times. We have a family of 5 and for the cost it is great. Beautiful resort. We wanted to do a deluxe this time but we started to look at the budget and it looks like we will be going back to POR!! We really love this resort. My kids love it too. It is so nice, they know their way around, go refill our cups and walk on over to the pool(the older ones). Staff has always been very friendly. And we usually get most of our requests. We do not feel to crowded, but we would definately prefer queen beds, but for the difference in price, we can cuddle. Bus service is pretty good, too. Did I say we LOVE this resort!! The only reason we were thinking of deluxe was to experience something different and have more transportation options. We have stayed at other moderates (back when we could) and still prefer POR. Have a wonderful trip!:D

I have stayed at POR twice, as well as many other resorts, including the Poly. POR is our favorite. It is spread out-and for some that is the deal-breaker. But for a famiyl of 5, it is wonderful. If you have small toddlers, bring strollers, and request first floor rooms to minimize walking fatigue. Bus stops are positioned fairly evenly across the resort, so you never have more than a 2 minute walk to ge to the park buses. There are Surrey bikes, regular bikes, and boat rentals. There is ferry boat service to Downtown Disney, where Lego Land is (my kids loved this). Boatwright's is one of our favorite breakfast restaurants, and the cafeteria has a very wide assortment. I have stayed at the All-Stars, and they are fine, with good theming, but for a family of 5, unless you have a crib child, you would have to get 2 rooms. POR would be more economical. The trundle beds are comfortable. Old Man Island Pool is great for all ages, and for a quick dip in the morning, there are pools near every building. I highly recommend requesting Alligator Bayou-I like the them better than the mansions. However, I think there are only trundle beds in Alligator Bayou, so you are probably in luck.

Choose POR-you'll love it!

We stayed at POR in May of 2001. We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section with the trundle bed. It was great. Request a first floor room so you don't have to lug strollers up. the kids had a great time here. There were ducks, rabbits, chipmunks (no not Chip and Dale ) outside our door everyday.

Love it here

I am sorry to say that I lasted at POR only one night. Checked out the next morning. I know I am in the minority here. Most people love this resort. While the grounds are pretty, I had the feeling that I was in a college dorm. As I lay in bed at night, I could hear every toilet flush, every conversation, every child cry. One night, I counted 6 toilet flushes in one hour. The child next to us cooed and squeeled until 5:30 in the am when I called the front desk. I am sure the parents heard my call, because after my complaint, the child was immediately quiet. The bed was very coily and uncomfortable for me. I requested an egg crate, which came to the room quickly. Unfortunately, it was in three small piece, which I would have puzzled together under the sheets. The maintenance person said she didn't do beds, and that I would have to do it myself. Okay. As I approached the egg crates, I was surprised at the dirt, grime, tears, and hair that were imbedded in them. There was no way I could have slept on that thing after having seen it. What you know *can* hurt you.

I would not stay at the POR again. I need a quieter place with more comfy beds. On another moderate resort stay, I stayed at the CSR and found it to be much quieter, and very comfortable.

If I were to stay at Port Orleans again, I would stay at the French Quarter. You could always take advantage of walking around the grounds of both resorts. POFQ just seemed quieter, and less dorm-like.

I apologize if anything I have posted upsets those who love the POR. I know there are many, many people who love it.

Two things I learned: I am a light sleeper, and I need a more cushy bed.

Don't apologize, I appreciate your honest review. We would like to stay at POR, but now I am thinking POFQ. I like the look of the Mansions exterior, but I like the look of FQ interior. The pool at FQ looks very fun, and the fishing thing at POR looks great. Too many nice things about both places. S

We love this resort. The theme is great. It has a food court that never seemed crowed. We never waited more than 5 minutes for the buses. Its nice to walk around the resort, or ride the bikes you can rent. Plus you can ride the boat to DTD. :)

I love Dixie (it'll always be Dixie to me :p ) and I just wanted to add. . .fishing! We had a blast in the middle of summer in the noon day heat catching fish with our bamboo poles! I'd go back in a heartbeat!
