We are visiting for the first time at the Port Orleans Riverside.

How big is the resort in comparison to the value resorts?
Is it a long walk from the main building to the various hotel buildings?

I stayed in AB building 16 last November. The walk wasn't bad, just a couple minutes. It just depends on which building you're in.
Sorry, I don't know the comparison to the values.
Have a great time!

For an example Pop has 2880 rooms and POR has 2048 rooms, so about 800 less rooms.
I can't speak for how the buildings are situated in the values, I only stayed at Pop one night.
but I have stayed at POR twice. As to wether of not there are long walks, it's subjective. Some think so, but IMO, nothing is a very long walk.
We like the Mansion section best. Our fav building is Magnolia Terrace.
It's a beautiful resort, and i love walking around it, and strolling along the river paths.

We've also stayed at mansion section of POR. We actually stayed at Magnolia Terrace. Main Pool was right across bridge and walk was very short. The main building was less than 5 min walk also. It wasn't bad at all and we are not used to walking much since we live in suburbs and do everything with our car.

We stayed in Magnolia bend... loved this part!! :) the walk was not long to the main pool or gift shop! the walking paths are great !! with all the trees etc, the different building each had a unique feel to them.

We have stayed at both AB and MB. Both have pretty different feels and we wouldn't mind staying at either again. The walk to the main building can be anywhere from 3 minutes to about 12 minutes depending on where you are and how fast you walk. My girlfriend and I never really minded the walks, even the longer walks.

More often then not we would have breakfast in the food court, then head back to our room to go to the bathroom or put drinks in the fridge for when we got back, then we would head to whatever bus depot was closest to the room. The West, North and East depots tend to be much less crowded than the South depot since that one is closest to the main building (also, we found that the South was last to be picked up more often then not).

We are staying at POR in Sept when we are going. Do you find out what building you are in when you get there, or is this something you can find out ahead of your arrival?

You can book a preferred room, which is buildings 14, 15, 18, and 27. You could be in one of those buildings. You can request one.

You can request a particular building.

Rooms are assigned about 3 - 5 days before arrival. The new computer system sorts the requests and the Room Assigner does their best to honor your requests. But they are only requests.

When you check-in, the CM will tell you what location your room is in (what building) if your room is not ready, or will give you the room number if your room is ready immediately.

If you do not like the room/location, you can politely ask if there are rooms available in your requested area. There may or may not be.

With all of the issues that could arise, i.e. overbooking, late check-outs, maintenance issues, etc. there is no way to know exactly what room or location you will be in until your room is available to be occupied.

I have to add something else regarding room and location.

Each year, I have booked waterview and requested Oak Manor near the quiet pool. I have always gotten it in the last four years. It has become my favorite.

This year, I was told I was in Parterre Place. I was a little grumpy, but decided to go with the flow. The CM winked and said, we decided to change it up a bit this year for you.

Imagine my surprise when my room became available and I got to it; corner room, king bed, riverview. I was on the end of the wing, with only four rooms across and I wasn't but thirty feet away from the river.

I went back up and practically hugged that CM; it was wonderful. So it pays to keep an open mind when you go.

Regarding POR, which section is closest to the bus stop? Sorry for all the questions, just curious.

IF there is any question about "walking" I would honestly say to request preferred lodging. IN the past, one could "request" 18, 14 in ab section (though not guaranteed, you'd still at least have a shot) now I understand that one cannot even get those buildings without upgraded room....since the resort is Very large, I would def. consider upgrading IF you are concerned or IF you will be inconvenienced/annoyed/concerned with an issue. If it is a medical reason, you can go thru special services...
It is a lovely resort with so many Positives, but size can be an issue......;)

We're staying at Riverside for the first time and we have requested Alligator Bayou. The grounds look beautiful and I want to see them so the walking should be fun.
I can't wait to get there!! :thumbsup2
