We are going to WDW on november 21 and we are going to be staying at the port orleans riverside. We were wondering if anyone could recommend a good room to request. Thanks.:smooth:

We had a 1st floor room in building 14 in the Aligator Bayou and found it ideal. Close to the foodcourt, Boatwrights and reception. It was also handy for the main bus deepos.

We couldn't stay in building 14 because it was being painted, we
stayed at building 27. This building was also convenient. If you
smoke building 18 is good. No doubt that building 14 is the best.

We also got building 14 of Alligator Bayou.

Great Room, Great Location.

A great mansion building is Magnolia Terrace. It is non-smoking. Do you prefer the looks of the bayou or the mansions?

ask for a corner room and you get an extra window. It really is a nice extra!

You better check the rehab list on the main Disboard page... Part of the PO is on the list as being renovated... I don't remember which parts POR or FQ.....and some areas are closed, at least according to that article. I don't know how old it is or if the renovations are still going on. It said something about Magnolia being closed completely...

Does anyone know anything about this? Like I said it may be an old article and the renovations may be completed by now.

Be careful if you ask for a corner room. We did and we were put next to an interior hallway and we only had one window. Make sure you specify a room with 2 windows.

They are painting in the Alligator Bayou. During our visit Buildings 14, 15 and 28 were being painted. We stayed in Building 26. It was very peaceful and great. We were in room 2602 which is a good location. I would definitely recommend a corner room with 2 windows. The rooms aren't larger, but the extra window and extra light make them seem bigger. :p

We are returning to POR in November also, were in Partierre Place last year. This year have asked for Oak Manor, thinking it would be a little closer to the main bus stop, food court, etc. but I would appreciate your input...we are going with my DB,SIL and two nieces, ages 6 and not quite 1, who I imagine, will be quite tired at the end of the day...so, even with a stroller, a nearby room would be a godsend. What do you think, should I change my request to AB? My feet will also appreciate shorter distances to the bus and food court....seems to me that I remember the POR busses were among the furthest away at all the parks and DD too...:D

Alligator Bayou buildings 14 and 15 are definitely the closest buildings to any bus stop. If a short walk is for you, I would consider staying there. I wasn't very happy the first time I was "assigned" to a bayou building, but I fell in love with the bayou almost instantly.

Did I make a mistake switching from ASMovies at Christmas time to Port Orleans French Quarter? Is there a chance that the pool won't be open? Am I subjecting my 6 year old daughter to a long walk for every meal?

candleonwater: I don't know about the pool being open at Christmas time, but you definitely won't have an intolerable walk to the food court from pretty much any location at POFQ. It is the smallest of the moderates (and my favorite) meaning no matter where your room is, you'll be close to everything. The food court is a little small, but you're about a 10 minute walk to POR (pretty walk along the river) where they have the BEST bakery and more selection (plus a sit down restaurant).

You're going to have a fabulous time!!!

I think there are rumors of POR's pool being shut down in Jan. I have not read that about POFQ.

so if the "rumors" are correct about POR pools -how long would the painting take? should I be concerned about my Feb trip?

I recieved this information from Riverside, the CM said that the main pool will be closed in January for about a month. They will fix the bridge, add fountains, and enlarge the slide. The CM said it was originally scheduled for Sept but has been changed until Jan. I called the resort directly and talked to the "pool bar". I then wanted to make sure this was correct info, so I emailed Disney and recieved a call from Birdie (a disney CM) that gave me the same info. This is for the PO riverside main pool, not the POFQ. Hope this helps.
