Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2014 (Please read first post for FAQs!)

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered or if this ought to be posted in a different thread...

We have an 8:40 pre-park opening ADR at the Magic Kingdom. I'm wondering how to best handle the transportation for this from POR. How early would yall suggest getting to the bus stop, and will MK buses be running fairly regularly by that time? Thanks in advance for any insight and suggestions!

Seems like we tried to be a the south depot at 7:15 and were plenty early.

Here is a question for you: I have all 3 room ressies under my mymagicalexperience account. I was able to "check in" for myself but not for the other two rooms.

I have decided not to panick, and am thinking that since our reservation does have adjoining rooms already on it, I should just do the fax 5 days prior and hope that all is good.....(who cares if two rooms officially have to check in when we arrive). Sound like this is ok?

Just because you have their reservations linked to your MDX account may not mean they are actually 'managed' by you. Each person should have their own MDX account anyway, so try getting the lead guest from each room to log in and do their own online check-in.

Thanks for all the great advice. (Hope your family is well. Saw the update you posted a little while back). We arrive in 11 days. Got my room request fax ready to send over. We are very excited! I've been busy making my lists and checking them twice.

I bought an over the door shoe organizer, and a shelf organizer thing to hang up in the "closet" area to try and maximize our space. We'll be in AB and I'm a little anxious about getting all our stuff organized in the room.

Got our stroller reserved, groceries ordered. Can't believe we're getting this close to the big day.

Weird question for you all...How bad are the frogs at POR? Are they everywhere? I'm terrified of them. I figure in that environment we can pretty much guarantee some amphibious encounters.

Don't worry, you might see an odd one but they're not rampant everywhere.

Has anyone ever successfully requested in their reservation a room on the Magnolia side? Any idea of the chances of receiving one versus the other section? Thanks!

Got Magnolia Terrace 2nd floor as requested & it was close to foot bridge & quiet pool. Lovely area but DH & I found we actually prefer the AB section over the mansions so we are back to a preferred room in November.

This is going to sound strange, but DH & I found the mansions to be a bit "stuffy". We just feel that the AB section is a bit more laid back and relaxing to us. We have stayed there 5x in the last few years after trying deluxe and values & always seem to come back "home". We do aways book a preferred room as we like being close to the food court, bus stop & a quiet pool. This year it looks like we'll actually get to see Yee Haw Bob after missing him on recent trips. If you have a chance, take a carriage ride. We chose to go through POFQ to see what that resort looked like. We stayed there last December, but again not our cup of tea. Have fun on your vacation. We've sent in Fax requests our last few stays and all requests were met. Love all the info and help that Venomhatch & Andre' give us on here.

Anyone have any idea what the dimensions of the the shelf above the closet bar might be? Based on pictures I'm guessing about 10" x 5'

We are normally DLR people heading for our first WDW trip next month!

We are going to do a split stay - first 3 nights at Poly and then moving to POR (this part is a company paid trip, so we had to move, but I'm excited to experience more than one resort on our first trip).

I booked a Royal Room with River view (maxing out the company dollars, lol). And now my question - is there a room request in addition to that booking that you would recommend? Benefits of different buildings?

It will be dh, myself, ds7 and dd4. During our time here, dh will be using the rental car to go to a conference so it will be just me taking the kiddos to the parks. Sunday we will do a relaxed day with swimming and exploring, Monday is MK and Tuesday is AK if it makes any difference in your recommendations.

They start at 6:30am.

They start at around 6:30am, but there's no guarantee you'd be at the MK for 7am so I'd get a taxi. There are usually some waiting, but if not you can normally get one requested pretty quickly.

My family and I are not staying at Port Orleans, but we would like to check
out the resort and also do cane pole fishing. We are staying at Wilderness Lodge. Would we be allowed to drive our rental car to Port Orleans and park there? What are the hours for cane pole fishing?
