So I reserved a preferred location, since I will be running all three PHM races. I want to be fairly close to the main building and bus stop, since I will be catching the bus before the crack of dawn three days in a row. I would like a decent view and a quiet-ish room. I have never stayed in AB, so I am not at all familiar with that area. Any suggestions for buildings?

Are there any specific preferred rooms at POR that anyone would recommend requesting? I looked on touring plans at the room views but it didn't really help us much. Thanks

The best thing would be to let them know what you want rather than specific room numbers - e.g. pleasant view, near to pool, quiet location, upper floor, near to main building/parking/bus stop, etc.

Will do. I never make requests. I usually just go with the flow, but I thought I would give it a shot this time!

The Alligator Bayou rooms can accommodate five people, but rather like rooms with sofa-beds, etc, they can't all be tall adults. The rooms are more aimed at families beyond two adults, two kids really. If you want to put five adults in one room you can, but you need to be aware of the limitations of the murphy bed. Andre

We'll have 2 adults, and 3 kids (17,14,12). What do you think?

Unless the 12 year old is very tall, you'll be fine. My DD was about that age when she slept in one of the murphy beds as she was about 5ft 2.5in at the time, and she said it was great.

My DS was 12 the last time we stayed there and he was about 5'3". He took one look at the Murphy bed and decided he would be more comfortable on an air mattress. So, I think it would probably depend on your child...none of my kids felt comfortable on it, actually. They all sleep in queen beds at home, and I think the small size, plus the height off the floor, made them all feel like they might roll and fall off. As always, YMMV.

Riddle me this, if I want a river view room in a preferred location, what category is that?

You can't have both technically. You would need to book preferred and request a river view, or book river view and request a location close to the main building. But a request is just that. No guarantees.

Oh I know there are no guarantees. I was just looking at room locations on Touring Plans last night and got confused! I wanted to make sure there wasn't another room category I didn't know about. I've already booked a preferred room, so when the time comes I just request a river view, right?

The app has been soooo slow so in haven't been doing much on the boards. Might be the case for most,

My app has been driving me nuts lately!

No, it's the other way around, River View takes priority for all of the rooms facing the river - so you need to book River View and request buildings 14 or 27.

See my maps at http://www.portorleans.org/floorplans.php for details of exactly which rooms fall into which booking categories in every building.

I just booked preferred, and requested river view and got it. It isn't hard for those who request this when booking preferred since most don't know they can request it after booking preferred category.

Just checking... Does POR still accept and view faxed requests a week before your check-in date?

I am getting SO close to my trip - I am TOO EXCITED!!! :goodvibes

I've got 3 rooms and when I booked the CM mentioned they would try to get 2 rooms with the joining door. I REALLY don't want this, should I call back and note this or should I send a fax?

If you have the time to call then I would. But if you don't feel like it then just mention it in your fax. This is not even a deal breaker as they can quickly fix this in most cases.

I will just request the view and see how it goes. Preferred location is more important to me this trip. Thanks, guys!
