Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2014 (Please read first post for FAQs!)

I've been doing some more work towards better mobile styling of my portorleans.org site, and have just finished a complete forum software update and installed a new simple style specifically for mobile devices (which was one of the potential stumbling blocks). I've not activated it as a 'forced' style yet though, and I'd be grateful if some folks could test it on various mobile devices first (especially iPhones and Windows Phone). It will also work on tablets and desktops, but obviously looks a bit basic on those.

If you have a moment, could you go to www.portorleans.org/forum and sign in (or register if you don't have an account, it's quick and painless). Then go to your User Control Panel, and in the Board Preferences tab select "Mobile (test)" as your Board Style and have a play around with it. You can use the "Website/Technical" subfourm for test posts/replies if you wish. If no one has any problems I can then set this as the default style for mobile phone access. Thanks!

Andre

I've been trying to register, but I can't get past the confirmation code. Its a doozy on my screens. I've exceeded the number of attempts LOL Any help? I always joke I would fail life if it was based on confirmation codes!

My husband and I are booked at POR Sept 28-Oct 6 in a Garden view room :) we are so excited we have never stayed here before :)

Doesn't get much better than that mate. And you could just about jump over to the food court in an single bound from there. :)

Andre

Yeah it doesn't really. Just checking in since we have been on our family vacation.

Used the mobile site a but,.no issues on my tiny screen older Android...other than my fat fingers had a hard time with the little drop down arrow

I'm working on our requests for our stay at POR and I'd like some advice please. We're currently booked in a Royal Room with a Garden View. Ultimately, the ideal and goal of my request is to get a room as close to the bridge leading to the Lobby and South Depot as possible. In looking at the map, it looks like either the north wing of Parterre or the SW wing of Oak Manor fits the bill, but from what I understand, being more general rather than specifically saying, "I want a specific wing in a specific building" is more effective. In this case, what would be the best way to word my request? Should I bother requesting a specific building? Or should I simply say, "we would like to be as close to the bridge to the Lobby as possible? I don't really care which building I'm in, as long as I'm close to the bridge, hopefully. I also don't want to confuse the CM reading my request.

Or should I simply say, "we would like to be as close to the bridge to the Lobby as possible?

Exactly. If you request one building or the other you could just as easily be on the furthest edge of it.

Andre

Hello,
I am so excited about our trip to POR. Although we have 287 days, we are still enjoying planning. I have looked through most of this thread and may have missed the answer to my question. If so, I apologize. My question is about the wall safe. I have a full sized Kindle which I believe would be the same size as an Apple IPad. I believe its a little over 8". Does anyone know if it would fit in the safe? I sure would like to lock it up each day. ::MinnieMo

Yes, it should fit fine - unless it is in a super-massive case of some sort anyway. The internal dimensions of the safes are 35cm x 24.5cm x 9cm deep.

Andre.

This may be a silly question but when we originally booked back in October I hadn't yet found these boards. I know it says to include any requests or special comments on your original reservation. Can I have my TA add notes now or is it too late? I will still fax our request but wanted it on our reservation. Also, if we do online check in, will it show us what room we will be assigned to or will we only find that out upon actual check-in? We are arriving May 2nd and this is our first trip to DW! TIA!

Yes, you can get notes and requests added to your reservation at any time, either by doing it yourself if you have the Disney 12-digit reference number, or getting your travel agent to do it for you.

Online checkin can be done up to 60 days in advance, but your actual room number normally won't be allocated until a few hours before your planned arrival time when they make up your Welcome Pack. If you send a fax a few days earlier and there is some reason that a specific room might be preferred (e.g. medical needs, or being part of a large group) then that could be blocked out on the system for you a few days beforehand. But either way, they won't give out the room number until you are actually present at the resort and they know the room is now vacant and has been cleaned, as up until that point it could still be changed due to circumstances beyond anyone's control.

Thanks! I didn't think they'd give out the room assignments that early but figured I'd ask!!

Thank you, Andre! Super helpful as always. :)

Ditto what Andre has already said.
You have a few options for requests. You can call Disney reservations (or your TA) to have them put a note on your reservation with your request. Or you can fax them in a few days before your arrival. Or you can make note of them when you do online check in. The online check in notes is very bare bones, however and only include basic things such as what floor, or corner room. It can't even handle something like a bed rail request. So it's up to you if the online check in requests is sufficient for you. If it's not, leave that part blank and use the other methods to submit your request.

Our trip to POR last year we actually only booked about a month before we went. Our TA put all of our requests in the reservation (we really wanted a Magnolia Bend room and on the top floor if possible).

I was immediately able to check-in and also added those notes to my request.

I didn't know about faxing the resort your requests back then so I skipped that step.

I was pleased to find that when we arrived we were given a Magnolia bend room with a garden view on the top floor. This was during Spring Break season and cut into Easter break as well. So I was very surprised and grateful.

The first trip to WDW is always a very special one. Hope it's everything you've ever dreamed of!

Does anyone know if the resort store or food court area sells lactose free milk? Our ds(4) is lactose intolerant but a big milk drinker.

Thanks!!

OK, I haven't been on here in a while...as we were planning this years trip, my two oldest kids suggested "we try something other than Disney this year" (not sure who's kids they are, I should ask for a DNA test or something ) So we went to NYC in March. After my hubby saw our bank account after we came home, he noted that we should have gone to Disney! LOL...so needless to say, I am now in the midst of planning out a trip for just my youngest and me in December. I am hoping of course for FD and to stay at POR (love that resort). As I have been pricing out the vaca, POR is not showing any standard rooms...only Garden View and up? Could they be sold out already for September?? Anyone have any insight?

Check to see if any promos are selected when searching for rooms. I think right now they have the discount summer vacation package and the free memory maker. Make sure neither promo is selected and see if that opens any standard rooms. I don't know if that will help, but all the promos have different room types that they are available for. So if you have one selected it may be not allowing you to search for Standard.

Good luck!

I'm not sure about the general store, but I know the food court offers Silk. It is in the kids drink section.

Looks good Andre. Just posted some replies I used my iPhone 5S

Great, so if the forum code is working OK for everyone I'll switch it over to being the default for mobile access (you will still be able to switch back to the desktop layout if you wish). Then I can start looking at the iPhone menu issue (which I might tackle by making a mobile-friendly version of the whole site, as that's the long-term plan anyway).

I've just changed the captcha style on the forum, as one or two users have been having problems reading the text successfully. I've switched to the Google style two-word system, see if that helps. If not, email me at admin(atsign)portorleans.org and I'll see if I can help.

Got in!

Thanks so much!

I love your site. We've been having so much fun using it to decide to stay at POR this time around. We've stayed at CSR 2x and figured we should venture out and see what else there is.
