Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2014 (Please read first post for FAQs!)

Hello,
I am so excited about our trip to POR. Although we have 287 days, we are still enjoying planning. I have looked through most of this thread and may have missed the answer to my question. If so, I apologize. My question is about the wall safe. I have a full sized Kindle which I believe would be the same size as an Apple IPad. I believe its a little over 8". Does anyone know if it would fit in the safe? I sure would like to lock it up each day. ::MinnieMo

We just returned from POR last week. I have a full sized Kindle Fire and it fit in the safe easily along with an iPad, a 7" Kindle Fire, a Galaxy Tab, and several other smaller things.

Check to see if any promos are selected when searching for rooms. I think right now they have the discount summer vacation package and the free memory maker. Make sure neither promo is selected and see if that opens any standard rooms. I don't know if that will help, but all the promos have different room types that they are available for. So if you have one selected it may be not allowing you to search for Standard. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice! I did make sure "Room Only" was selected, and still the same thing! Weird! If they are sold out already, they probably won't include it in the FD...oh well, guess we just get a better room!

You could try other searches - e.g. look one day at a time to see if a particular single day is blocking the availability of the whole booking. Also try looking for a longer period (two weeks maybe) overlapping the period that you want as sometimes that has been known to work. Then you can cancel out the days you don't want later.

We are officially booked for November in a preferred room!!!! I'm so excited, this time is going to go by soooooo sloooow! Now to hope for fd!!

:cool1: So excited!!! Just booked for 12/6-12/13!!! Cant wait!!!

Forgive me if this has been asked already. I did post on the main resort board, but thinking I should have posted here.

My friend just emailed me upset because she was told that the DTD marketplace boat dock is closed until fall and that they would not be able to use the DTD ferry from POR during their stay April 29-May6.

Is this correct or will they just use the dock at Pleasure Island???

We just made the final payment on our package! We will be at POR on 5/26 for 7 nights. The whole family is excited for our first onsite stay!

We paid for a premium room. Do I still need to make requests building? Did someone say beinets and chicory coffee a few posts back!?

I did it! Made my ressies at POR. Now the waiting begins, September is so far away. Haven't been to POR for 8 years, been to other resorts but not POR. Looking forward to it with my little guy.:goodvibes

Okay, so I know this is hypothetical, but has anyone had a preferred room booked only to be told they couldn't have it when they checked in? My biggest fear is that they will tell us that there is only RR available which I do not want but is the same price range. Also, it seems it is what is currently available left when we are going.

If it came down to it, I would rather downgrade to a regular room. Would they allow that and refund difference?

Hoping that doesnt' happen, but sometimes you hear of these things, just wondering if anyones encountered this?

Thanks to everyone who helped me with my question about my full sized Kindle fitting into the safe. I feel much better now. We are really getting excited about our trip. It is so much fun reading all these posts. You can really learn a lot on here.

Thanks again,
Karen ::MinnieMo

You don't need to make requests; a lot of people apparently just don't want to leave it to chance. POFQ has beignets, but I'm not aware that they have chicory coffee; I think they were talking about Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.

About to book a royal room. Is there a specific building I should request? We are getting a garden view. How bad is the walk to the main building?

I'm pretty sure that you will get what you booked and paid for. I could be wrong. I suppose it could be possible for them to switch you to something comparable, but I've never had them move me to a different category when I booked one specific one. When I booked preferred, I got preferred.

If you were "forced" to downgrade (which I doubt will happen) I don't see them not refunding you. As with everything, document, document, document. It never hurts to C.Y.A. :)

Honestly though, I don't expect them to put you in anything other than preferred since that's what you booked, and your reservation clearly states that.

Just mailed my last payment for our 5 day stay followed by a 3 night Disney cruise in the first week of Dec. This will be our first time in a moderate resort (always before we stayed at POP), and I am giddy with the excitement
I have paid for a Royal Room Pool View. And asked for a corner room to accommodate my electric scooter. As I understand it, because it is a request due to mobility issues that this would bump the request up the "allocation food chain" ;). Does anyone know if that is the case?
And secondly. .. I have been advised to have the Disney gift cards I am buying shipped to the resort (since they don't ship to Canada) anyone know how far in advance I can send them to be held for me?
I am SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS TRIP that I am driving my poor daughter insane.
